Welp, 0-1 on reviews. From a chick that’s a fellow WH alum.

I don’t know how you mess up a shrimp boil and shrimp and grits but they managed to do it. They spent so much money redoing the place to have bad food. Not a terrible place to grab a beer and maybe appetizer.

Although trying it in the first two weeks was probably her bad.

My mom: "What's going to happen to the Antique Mall?????"

Me: "It's going to stop existing." lol

The designation request from owner Montgomery Corner LLC comes the day after the City Council approved a resolution to rezone 83.7 acres of land mostly on the west side of Montgomery from industrial to intensive commercial use. The strip includes churches, midcentury industrial buildings and retail shops. Special permits could be granted to some existing businesses, such as nut distributor Vending Nut and bar Ye Olde Bull and Bush, to adhere to the new guidelines. Automotive shops would be banned.

This is super aggressive.

Funny line from the Malt Shop article.
Hart, owner of Hart HVAC, wrote that he and Allen are looking for painters, electricians and remodeling crews to help restore the Malt Shop, offering two years of advertising in trade.
Bringing back the barter system!!!

I’ve never understood who buys that many nuts. Same with the popcorn joint on Vickery.

Gotta be bulk orders/gift basket type shit. Only way I can imagine it working. Plus margins on popcorn gotta be insane.

Ha, the bikini coffee shop off 80 got mentioned by the Startle-gram. Quite the contrasting locations.

Can’t Resist Coffee has been open since July 2024, according to Texas State Health Inspection records. Owner Ocean Kaye has also opened up a west coast location, Vanilla and Honey Espresso, in Spokane, Wash., and another kiosk in Idaho.

Shit, why you scared of the dark there? Maybe the cheapest place to drink these days, still have $2 wells some nights.

Pool tourneys, Frisbee putt golf, trivia, bingo, karaoke, food trucks, outdoor theme movie nights when it's not freezing, they've definitely figured out their niche. Don't go to watch a game though.

Anyone been to the Portillo’s on S. Cooper yet?

I love Chicago foods but everywhere I’ve lived the joints typically opened by Chicago expats just dont cut it.  So Portillo’s fills a void and I am glad we have in DFW now because it’s very good though not great.  It’s like I might not eat at Rudy’s in Texas much, but had there been one when I lived in the Bay Area or Portland I would have been thankful for it.

i eat at the one on Cooper about once a month.  I have found that eating it there is way better than takeout.  There are several things I get there that are really good.  Italian beef is exceptional.  I get it hot, sweet, half dip.  I sometimes get it as the combo with an Italian sausage tucked in there but I’ve about decided I like it best as just a beef sandwich.

the hot dogs are very good (I skip the tomato and pickle spear and double the sport peppers) but I usually go with the Maxwell Street Polish with sweet and sport peppers.

the burgers should be great as they are charbroiled but both times I got them they were overcooked and ashy.

next door are two awful joints.  Jolibee weirdass philipino fried chicken and weenie spaghetti, and Nations burgers which suck.

if you’re looking for other Chitown joints…Weinberger’s in Grapevine is a great Chicago deli and may be the best sandwich place in Texas.  In Venus, Biundo’s has perfect Chicago tavern style thin crust pizza. They have the deep dish and red gravy pasta but that thin crust pizza is killer.
