Dolly Parton has passed away.

The outpouring will be massive, beloved by progressives and hillbillies alike. A true crossover megastar and author of perhaps the greatest song of all time. Along with seemingly being a great person who cared about others.

RIP, Dolly.

Damn.

A great artist but moreover a great human being.

We are all better off having been around when she was.

Fair skies and following tailwinds.

In a world full of total shit heaps, Dolly was somebody we should all aspire to emulate. RIP to one of the GOATs.

The world is a better place because of her. That's quite the legacy. Thank you for your kindness. RIP.

One of the true great American heroes and songwriters. An incredible role model to every person out there and especially every little girl. I’m going to have to talk to my daughter about this tonight because she loves Dolly because Dolly sends her all those books.

We need someone like her for our times now more than ever.

This one sucks so much. RIP to the long-reigning Queen of the whole damned thing.

Cancer?

She was 80 and having health issues, haven't heard about cancer.

Just terrible news, the kind you always knew you would get someday but wanted that day to take forever to get here.

I’m looking forward to the abundance of well deserved tributes in the upcoming days/weeks/years of this American icon.

I can’t think of a more total package of a human.

Incredible artist, true humanitarian, jaw dropping looks. There is no flaw. God is a woman, and it’s probably her.

I saw a reddit thread a few years ago that asked a hypothetical, "Who is the best living example of what a human being should be?" That question is a lot harder to answer now, Dolly was the runaway favorite. This hits hard, what a great example for everyone to try to live up to.

I don’t know anyone who disagreed about Dolly. America lost someone who belonged to everyone but was still, fully and uniquely, ours in the best way possible.

The greatest ever ❤️.

Username . . . ugh, nevermind.

There's maybe 2 or 3 people on the face of the earth that you never heard a bad thing being said about them. Maybe that number was just one.

Pass this every day on Ben White.

Pure goodness.

These things usually dont hit me, but she was so amazing, so beautiful, her personality, God bless her, we really had it all with her. Sad day.

Posted in other thread, but the music piece was transcendent.
Genuine. Creative. Generous.Vivacious.Beautiful.
You also gave my mom and her friends an anthem in the 80's to live by as they returned to work. You had to be there to understand, but Dolly's music carried a bit of inspiration for the "independent woman."

RIP to a legendary lady.

We're hiking around Fort Worden State Park in Port Townsend where they filmed An Officer and a Gentleman. My wife was humoring me and filming my reenactment of the "Ive got no place else to go" scene when the alert came through. I suddenly felt incredibly stupid & silly.

We took a moment & looked out over the Strait of Juan De Fuca. She's as timeless as all of the elements now.

She was so damned smart, so damned charming, and so damned talented. World class songwriter, world class singer, world class human being. It's hard to imagine an equal in that world -- maybe Willie?

This is a cover, but it wouldn't exist without Dolly.

This song came on in my car during a really tough time in my life, and I fucking sobbed like a goddamn baby. Good tears. It was the hope and perspective I really needed at the time.

Dolly was a living angel on Earth. One of the best of us. RIP.

Yeah, it's nice to have some positivity and affirmation in one's life every once in awhile. Her original is pretty fantastic, too.

It makes me wonder...how many people who starred, or guest starred, on Hee Haw are still alive?

Flags at half staff for a week.

I like Dolly as much as the next guy, but this is a little much.

The children of Tennessee are absolutely fucked. I think she basically funded the state's public schools and library systems.

If you believe her - and you should have no reason to doubt her, as she one of the few to maintain her innate goodness through celebrity - then she wrote "I will always love you" and "Jolene" in the same afternoon.

They were at full staff before she died.

She’s a lot more deserving than a racist podcaster.

I know people from Tennessee. Her money really wasn't helping much.
