I know people from Tennessee. Her money really wasn't helping much.

It was a joke, my man. But her money probably has helped a lot more people than your money (or mine).

This was Dolly’s goodbye song to Porter Wagoner. Now, she and Porter are back together. Goodbye, Dolly.

How he held it together through that I'll never know.

I knew she was getting up there and it was going to happen, but . . . . damn.

I wasn't much of a country music fan in my childhood during the 70s and 80s (and still am not), but she was everywhere and you couldn't help but be a fan. As I grew older I began to appreciate her innate and genuine goodness as a human being.

Dolly and my mom were of the same generation and both proud Southern women. Raised in less than ideal conditions, but raised right. Empathy for others, never forgetting where they came from. My mom was born in Northeast Mississippi. Dolly was without a doubt my mom's favorite singer. I remember going to Dollywood as a kid simply because it was Dolly's place. When my mom passed away, I started to listen to Dolly a bit more. Kind of keeping that connection. Dolly was everything her image appeared to be. Simply a genuine, good person. My mom was the same. There are some emotions coming up in this Momma's boy that are making the office really dusty right now.

I hope my money isn't helping anyone. Fucking freeloaders.

☝️ me, basically.

Certainly have never been a big fan of country, but Dolly was bigger than her genre. Bigger than most wealthy people. Bigger than most lingerie departments had in stock.

The nation is a little less talented, a little less kind, and a little less of a cup size than it was yesterday.

So we just put her on money now, right?

I vote we put her on the $20. It was fun poking fun of Jackson by associating him with the Federal Reserve, but let's get that asshole off our currency for good.

1. AFM, the labor union representing professional musicians in North America, is paying tribute to Dolly Parton, who was a member of its Nashville Local 257 for 58 years.

AFM says that for decades, Dolly consistently filed union contracts for her recording sessions, live gigs and tours.

Loved this one too
in 2005, Three 6 Mafia won an Oscar for Best Original Song for the film Hustle and Flow ("Hard Out Here For A Pimp"). Dolly Parton was nominated in the same category. After celebrating heavily, they had a nice personal note awaiting them when they arrived back home.
Today I've learned that Dolly Parton gave Black high schools band uniforms and wrote Eminem a nice letter when he was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
I have really enjoyed the experience of reading story after story about how good and selfless and beloved a recently deceased famous person was

"Hard Candy Christmas" is an absolute must play at Christmastime in our household.

Dolly Parton was from everything I have ever seen, read, heard etc an absolute awesome human. RIP.

Told my daughter, she was sad but we got to have a good talk about how we're all so lucky to have had a world with Dolly Parton and how so many people are sharing messages and memories about how much Dolly Parton meant to them. Just read her her night time story and she picked "How to Get Your Octopus to School"

If there are angels or saints among us, she certainly was one. RIP to the legend.

And some say she got her first boob job in 1967! Fuck walking on the moon if so, that was the real frontier.

Speaking of her work with unions

Fun fact, tho not so much given the circumstances:

Many large west coast SEIU local numbers are based off mergers. 1021 was 10 locals, now 1.

521 was 5, now 1.

721 was 7, now 1.

Not 925.

925 is numbered after the 9 to 5 movement of women workers in the 70s, which Dolly wrote the song about.
We’re not in the habit of recognizing celebrity deaths here at 925. That said, Dolly Parton is a national treasure and some folks here joke that Dolly is our Locals patron saint. After all her song “9 to 5” is our anthem. Today we remember all the love and kindness Dolly brought the world.

Ssomeone I respected as an artist, an entrepreneur, and a person. Mostly as a person. I probably don’t know even a dozen of her songs. And while I respect her business acumen, that doesn’t really touch me. The most impressive thing to me is that she was a good and decent human being. That’s an inspiration.

RIP, Dolly. You will be missed.

Oh fuck off, it’s a tribute from one artist to another

Dolly broke me in early to her raucous self deprecating sense of humor

when we began steel magnolias rehearsals

i asked her - how long does it take to do a hair do like yours?

Dolly - no idea, i’m never there when they do it!

i started taking Dolly-isms notes on the back of my script after that

Jack's a good guy. Accept the tribute for what it is, and don't worry about what it's not.

One of the more obscure facts I remember about Dolly Parton is this: just like Star Trek would not exist without Lucille Ball, Buffy would not exist without Dolly Parton. She was a silent producer of the movie and show. That's why Buffy Summers has the same birthday as Dolly: January 19.
