Damn, dude. Hope she's alright and recovers quickly.

I don’t want to post the pictures because her injuries are on her butt, but it tore huge pieces of her flesh out. Two full bites. Her right butt cheek is mangled.

Damn. That's awful. There's definitely going to be some psychological trauma associated with that experience, as well. So very sorry, Constant. Strength and good health to your young lady.

Surly is loaded with lawyers, so you should have some good leads soon, if you don't already.

Hang in there.

That’s terrible man. Do you have some good witnesses or video? Also I take it you know the dog in your hood?

Yeah, I know the home the dog belongs to. My daughter was over there visiting with a friend in their driveway when the dog got loose from inside and attacked her in their driveway. That family witnessed it, but I don’t trust them to do the right thing in the end.

Did you call the police and local animal control yet? Important to do so even if they don’t remove the animal, and get an official report in and the owners with a record.

Yeah. Did that stuff the day of. Unfortunately, I’m a little too familiar with the process due to my work. And I’ve found representation, so that part is also done.

Sorry @Constant  That fucking sucks and hope you get all you deserve. This includes the emotional help for your daughter. I hope she does not growing up scared of all dogs.

The other two posts above piss me off. 1- the pit defender's statement of you always need to watch YOUR FAMILY DOG... Um, I had dogs to protect my kids. 2- The Go Fund Me. I won't say more.

I really hope your little girl recovers soon.  It will be interesting to see what breed the family told their insurer they had as nearly all refuse to cover pits and similar dogs.

If it happened on their premises you have a better chance of a homeowners policy paying out the claim.

I thought parents were supposed to protect their children from wild animals.  It seems here they harbored the wild animal with the child.

Yeah, I’m keeping a close eye on her trauma response. This is likely the most traumatic thing she’s experienced since 49-0. So far, she’s handled it well, although she wants me to go over and strangle that dog.

I've got a dog that will kill any cat that comes in her yard (or raccoon or opossum), but she's not capable of ripping a bumper off a truck. Geez.

Well, the bumper part was totally fabricated but that is a scary dog.

My dog is a giant pussy, apparently.  She'll bark and chase cats, opossi, and raccoons, but when she corners them... standoff.  No fight.

Blue immediately bites them through the heart. Instant kill.

any updates? How's your daughter?

She is in good spirits. She’s tougher mentally at her age than I ever would have been. Her wounds are healing. Stitches come out on Monday and then off to a wound care specialist on Wednesday.

The dog is still at the home she was attacked at.

So did Ruby. Not that she wanted to… She felt she owed it to them.

Otoh, Ruby kept an eagle eye on our kids, never barked at a guest invited into our home, wasn’t bothered by thunder or fireworks, and was always eager to do whatever we asked of her. Fucking miss that dog.

Edited to add: Aussie/lab mix.

Hey y’all,

Earlier this week my wife and dog were attacked by 3 pit bulls while out walking our neighborhood. Both got beat up pretty good but luckily nothing life altering thanks to some neighbors hearing the screams and coming outside to help.

The police came, they corralled the dogs, and found the owner. I have a case number form APD, but they told us this is most likely going to be a civil issue. This incident is going to cost us a good amount between the dogs emergency vet visit, the ambulance for my wife, and getting her phone fixed which broke in the scuffle.

I want to press charges and have all of these things paid for by the dog’s owners, if possible. If so, should I be contacting a lawyer? How do I find a decent lawyer? Googling it returns a lot of results and I’ve no clue how to discern a good one from a bad one. Does anyone have any experience here and advice on next steps here?

Thank you all so much!

If we can't manage to ban them altogether, there should at least be a one-bite, and you're done policy with pits.  Fuck pit defenders.  Everyone loves their dog.  That's not a justification.

I respect the restraint of the father above whose daughter was attacked.   I don't think that dog would still be breathing if I were in his shoes, and I'd be in jail and paying some hefty fines.   Where I grew up, if a loose dog killed anyone's livestock or family pet, that dog was dead.  If it bit a person unprovoked?  Dead. No questions asked, and rarely much pushback from the dog owner either.  It was just the understood way of things.

It’s astounding the dog continues to live, apparently. All pits should be euthanized. It’s amazing we as a society permit mentally ill people unfettered access to guns, and terrible, uneducated moronic people unfettered access to pit breeds. They should all die.

Even safer route would be training and a license to own large or aggressive breeds. And of course insurance policies.

Most people need to learn how to drive, and we will manage accordingly. Most people should not have guns. Nobody should have pits.

Are “two-bite” laws (two police reports of a dog biting and the dog is taken away to be euthanized) ubiquitous? I think all serious dog bites (not counting the tiny dog snap that doesn’t break the skin) should be reported to the police.

That's protocol in Texas. Few years ago I was in Alamo Heights (nice area of SA) and a cold front came through the night before. Some wind and thunder, but not a particularly strong storm. I'm a sucker for cool morning air, so I drove to nearby neighborhood and went for a jog when a loose and well-groomed 30lb fella snuck up behind and grazed my leg with his teeth. No aggression, no fuss.

I went to an urgent care just to get maybe some antibiotics. They told me it was mandatory for them to call the cops and it was a whole thing. Very common process, the cop said. Pretty quick, but I was still annoyed.

I learned never to run in strange neighborhoods the morning after a thunderstorm. Thank god it wasn't a pit bull.

The colors are always revealed when something happens.  Their dogs are big sweeties who might lick ya to death and when they maul you, it’s your fault.

Decent people don’t keep an animal that has seriously injured a child.

probably facebook

Facebook is for 40 yo women way past their prime, and my 80+ yo lesbian aunt inundating her feed with political bullshit every day for the last 15 years. I’m not on it, but know enough from my (past her prime?) wife.

Im not on it because if I were, I’d tell everyone this man is a hero, be very critical of FWISD, and bring social media shame on my wife that I wouldn’t give a fuck about but would probably cause a divorce.

I’m confused. Why the outrage? It seems clear there was a loose shitbull, that was on camera barking and then leaping at a man who was armed. What is the expectation in this instance? You just supposed to allow yourself to get attacked? Gtfo

Right there in the article bruh:

"My biggest prayer is that the world will pray for the man that shot my dog's heart to come to God. Because I serve a good God, and I'm going to stand on my faith," he said.
