USU has a potent offense, averaging 58 pts per game.  BYU will need to maintain control of the ball with long sustained drives and make USU drive the length of the field.  A big statement game and a must-win for BYU, USU is highly underrated and I wouldn't be surprised to see them win tonight.  Vegas picked them to win by 3, so them winning wouldn't be an upset.

I would think BYU should be able to get the win tonight & just out-athlete USU...

USU has more speed, but we should be more physical.

Man, what does this say about the win at Wisconsin..? (I know literally you can't compare the 2 games but wowsers)...

I have no idea how we beat Wisconsin, but this is really looking like last years team.

Football struggling is really just a symptom of our AD's poor leadership and this coaching staff is just way too laid back.   It's time for  not only a coaching change but a cultural and a mindset change in leadership.   We need Lance Anderson or Darrell Bevel.

It could also be in facing diverse opponents from multiple conferences on a weekly basis, even Notre Dame had problems with that system...

That's part of the factor, along with what you point out... But wins are still possible for the Cougars...

This is typical of Utah State.  We are their Super Bowl and quite often they jump out to a lead only for us to come back.  BUT, which BYU shows up in the 2nd half, 2017 BYU or 2018 BYU.  If 2017 BYU shows up then Kalani Sitake and AD Tom Holmoe (who went 1-11 at Cal in 2001), need to both be fired.

Utah State is getting the ball out of the hands of the quarterback pretty damn quick...

because it's a spread offense.

Amazing that this same team rolled Wisconsin.

When you look at B1G wins as a league, which game was the best out of conference, ranked win..? TCU..?

It's got to be tough on coaches & scheme of each game, to face such wide ranging offenses from week to week, if BYU faced the spread every week, the team would be ready for it...

This team has quit.  Sitake and the AD Tom Holmoe need to lose their jobs over this.  There needs to be a wholesale culture and mindset change within the program and the university.    This program needs to be ran like it was in the 70s, 80s and 90s under LaVell Edwards.

BYU probably has a solid chance to win it's next 4, heading into the #HolyWar...

Would that be enough to save the job for coach Sitake & the athletic director Holmoe..?

You know who you guys should hire and who would make watching BYU fun again, Mike Leach. Y'all would be stupid not to.

Unfortunately, probably.  BYU Football has a culture and mindset problem and there are a lot of "chefs in the kitchen" (ie micromanaged by administration).  Not just that but with 65% of the players having served mission, they come back having lost that competitive fire and drive.    The program is ran like a fucking Catholic Boys school.

Agreed, though our administration is short sited enough to not even give him a sniff.  Leache's daughters all went to BYU as well as Leach himself.

I know Utah State wasn't playing any defense, but that Zach Wilson kid has a good arm, good mobility (nothing game changing but can escape), good footwork, nice touch on the deep ball. You guys can Sitake, wise up and hire Mike Leach, and give him Zach Wilson to work with... Whoa nelly.

It's more of a case of cramming all the tough games into the first 4 weeks of the season. Any team would have trouble being 100% for each game.  So how well the Cougs recover week to week is a high variance proposition.

It’s the pitfalls of independence. There is a reason conference teams plan their schedules the way they do. Especially the bye weeks. BYU has no such luxury. They are forced to take games when they can get them. And why those on here who scream independence are crazy as hell. Ask yourself what their record would be if they played the exact same teams, in the exact same order as Alabama?

Makes sense, Notre Dame was wise in partially joining the ACC, so to have some consistency in opponents...

Agreed, it changes the entire dynamic of the season in conference matches vs independent...

For years we played UMich and MichSt back to back, and paid for it.  I think we went 2-0 twice the last 20 years where that was scheduled.

Well, that may be the real reason why the B1G forbid teams from playing out of conference games after league play started, not allowing Notre Dame to schedule both similar to how USC & Stanford are in the PAC...
