Night Skies

damn good watch. a 2nd season was shot down, but season 1 was great sci fi

Yeah, was pissed they shot down a second season saying cost to viewership wasn't there. I felt the show wasn't well promoted and would catch on by word of mouth. To me it represents the perfect Netflix type show.

We started it and they cancelled it about the time we finished the third ep. Stopped right there. I figured it would be a five season show.

It can work as a stand-alone one season show. I would recommend finishing it.

At the time, I finished Night Skies but moved on to another Prime show - The Peripheral another great that fortunately got renewed for Season 2... and then Amazon cancelled it after renewing it due to the prolonged actors strike...

Many great shows available for someone to finish

The Tragically Hip: No Dress Rehearsal.  4-part documentary, a must-watch if you are a fan of their music.

All I know about The Tragically Hip is that New Orleans is Sinking is a kick ass tune.

Should I still watch?

The new season of The Legend of Vox Machina is just as great as the first two. Definitely geeky as it’s an animated D&D series, but it’s adult oriented with plenty of violence and language and a smidge of sex. The group of voice actors who created it are talented and funny. Final three episodes of the season drop on the 24th.

Fellow video game nerds, check out Secret Level. Animated series that has original stories set in the worlds of video games. The Pac-Man episode is kinda insane. Short episodes too - around 15 minutes. Keanu is in the Armored Core episode and Schwarzenegger is in the New World episode.

Boy the Unreal episode brought back some memories of LAN parties…

Just learned about this Warhammer biz today.

I’ll watch the Cavill show I bet.

If you are talking about the potential series, yeah.

If you are talking about Warhammer gaming as a hobby...

It will destroy your life and it will suck up your free time and your money. You will become friends with people you used to hate.

Red one - the rock and Chris Evans save Santa

Ever pause on a movie thumbnail, knowing that you're eventually--one way or the other--going to cave it and watch it, and let out a depressed sigh? I just don't give the slightest of fucks about this movie...but I know I'll give in to the algorithm one night before Christmas. A couple A-list stars phoning it in for a paycheck in a big budget, paint-by-numbers Christmas movie? Sure, I guess.

Red one is pretty funny, plus Nandor is in it. Won't spoil the character he plays

I was super in the fence about this one. Before it was released it was getting fucking hammered by critics but it has a great popcorn score on rotten tomatoes. I might go check it out with the boy if I hear it's worth it from the surl collective

WSJ article: Amazon bought MGM Studios in large part because MGM owned the rights to the James Bond movies. But the owners of the James Bond IP think Amazon Studios is run by fuckin' idiots so she won't greenlight a new Bond movie, spinoff or tv show. WSJ https://archive.ph/60GWW

Thanks for the link.

They really screwed the pooch when they didn't cast Idris Elba.  He would have been so great.

I also enjoyed Secret Level.  Some of the episodes were straightforward stories set in their corresponding game universe, but some went pretty abstract with it.  The animation work was amazing throughout.  The story telling was spot on.  The emotional impact was satisfying.

Mr Beast Games is pretty wild. I usually don’t go in for reality tv but this is sort of a game show too. There are some real morons competing.

My kids and I have been talking about how mentally weak these people are. They start blubbering at the drop of a hat. They should be embarrassed.

It makes me wonder how long they have been there and how little sleep they are getting. Also most of them don’t seem to grasp that it’s a competition and the odds of winning the grand prize are very small. If you can get out with five figures or more you should.

I watched My Old Ass with our girl Aubrey Plaza last night. I liked it overall, but

Spoiler

I'm not a fan of movies where an impossible scenario is introduced, which lures you in, and then the movie ends with no explanation of how the impossible scenario happened. The "it's up to the audience to decide how it happened" is really lazy.

You left out the important part of the review: is their tits/ass/snatch?

Also - when they could ask for anything, why didn’t they ask for money.

The family friend of ours asked for the damn princess costume. Wtf?

The impossible scenario is that a chunky Canadian girl ages 20 years and looks like Aubrey Plaza.

just stumbled across "On Call".  Gritty police procedural set in LGB.  so far I'm digging it.

Saw first two episodes, so far so good. Not on the level of Bosch but still strong, to, quite strong.

Beast Games

It's both pathetic and amazing.

The Squid Game guard costumes crack me up.

This.

It's like watching the Stanford prison experiment in real time.  Some of these idiots need to learn basic calculation of expected future value.  The guy that held out for 100k at the very beginning got it.

And speaking of money, I just do not understand the economics of streaming.  Between insane prize money being thrown around like candy, complex sets and games, thousands of cameras and dozens of support staff, how much money is this costing? How in the hell does Amazon turn a profit?
