I read the article and the comments (love the one baylor/ag/sooner troll's quixotic quest to try to defend Baylor and throw shade at Texas at the same time. The spirit of #CAB lives!).

Quite frankly, I think there is a better solution to evicting Baylor, especially in light of the fact that in about 5 years the realignment wheel may spin college football in a completely different direction. Rather than evict them, take their money. If the NCAA comes back with anything from their "investigation", use it as pretense to cut their distribution of Tier 1 and 2 revenues, bowl pooling, etc. in half for the remainder of the current contract and distribute that money to the other 9 teams in the conference. The other 9 schools will vote for that and if Baylor objects, they can voluntarily leave the conference. Baylor won't obviously do that.

Yeah yeah, I know that maybe there is a provision in the contract that would prevent that, but if I am the Big 12 I am looking into this while the NCAA does their "investigation". It may be far more punitive to take half their distribution than boot them out of the conference, putting Baylor significantly behind financially as the realignment wheel starts spinning again. The rest might just then take care of itself.

Big XII was holding some percentage (25?) of the BU payout from last year, I don't think they've released it yet.

I hadn't heard that. If so, is that pending the NCAA investigation?

Don't know. The withholding was initially billed as the Big XII's financial incentive for BU to show they had taken steps to implement better Title IX practices, basically the points for improvement that were outlined in the Pepper Hamilton "report". I don't see any reason why they can't just extend it arbitrarily.

Agreed, with the "results" of the NCAA investigation used as the hammer.

Should the Big 12 add Rice? Absolutely, along with the likes of Tulane and another school.

Will they remove Baylor? No.

Even if Rice and Tulane suck at football, there are a hell of a lot more sports to compete in within the Big 12.

But I actually like the current structure in Big XII football where two best records compete in the championship game. God knows how many more Big 12 football championships Texas would have if we didn’t have to win the Big 12 South (or be highest in the fucking BCS). The Big XII North was such a fucking joke for most years.

I would also add that stripping Baylor of any rights to voting on conference matters would be wise...

Why on earth would the Big 12 ever do that? Houston will never be in the Big 12

Well I can think of a couple of good reasons:

- Lock down the Houston TV market

- Further buttress southeast Texas against the SEC invasion in Collie Station

But personally, I don't really like the idea myself.

As someone who attended the University of Houston for a brief time I can tell you the main reasons why they will not receive an invite.

1.  There are about 8 million people in the Houston metropolitan surrounding area within 100 miles of campus, but UH  can’t muster 40,000 to attend a football game or 3,500 to fill up the basketball arena to watch a usually top 25 ranked basketball team.

2.  There are very little season-ticket holders.  Student section is always free, but most students don’t show up unless Houston is winning.

3.  Their “fans” don’t travel

4.  Around campus you will see more students wearing UT, aggy, and tech shirts than UH shirts.

Conclusion: they ain’t got no fans.  A small fan base equals no value to the Big 12 or any power five conference

I'd take Rice, BYU, New Mexico, Memphis, almost any ACC team over Baylor.

They suck shit.

Hot damn, I'm gonna burn through all of my posi-reps with all of the enlightening ideas..!

BYU adds a Notre Dame-esq following of national Mormons, while adding the largest football stadium in Utah...
New Mexico adds an entire state, smack in the middle of the Albuquerque market, the 32nd biggest city in America...
Rice adds the Houston market, (or alternatively allows XII members to personally recruit Houston on road games)...

And if West Virginia is absorbed into the ACC (for ACCN content), then the XII could easily add Colorado State, to regain a portion of the Denver market...

Yep. That would be sad if West Virginia left. They have a fun brand of football and hilarious coach/fanbase.

Also, fuck Houston. They are super butt-hurt about Texas building little sister campuses in Houston right now.

WVUs fans would hate the ACC as a whole. For years we tried to get in and those UNC and Duke assholes shot it down. If WVU has to be elsewhere we would much rather be in the SEC. Fuck the ACC.
