Dirtbag is going to be released from prison after serving 18 years for hiring someone to murder his pregnant girlfriend.

Quote

Former Panthers receiver Rae Carruth will be released from prison on Oct. 22, less than 18 years after he was convicted for conspiracy to commit murder, shooting into an occupied vehicle and using an instrument to destroy an unborn child.

Carruth's ex-girlfriend Cherica Adams – who was seven months pregnant with Carruth's son – was shot while driving her BMW in Charlotte on Nov. 16, 1999. The shooter was hired by Carruth.

The third-year wide receiver was arrested for conspiracy to commit murder and attempted murder, among other charges. When Adams died in Dec. 1999, one month after the shooting, Carruth was also charged with first-degree murder but was found not guilty.

Their son, Chancellor Lee Adams, will turn 19 in November.

You may remember the story about his son who was still in his mother's womb when she was shot to pieces.  He's 19 years old now, raised by his grandmother and living with cerebral palsy as the result of the shooting.  It's one of the more heartbreaking and heartwarming stories from Sports Illustrated I've read in recent years.

How noble of Rae not to seek custody of a 18 year old.

There’s some serious insurance/SS $$ associated with his son because of his condition. He, as the father, is entitled to take control of the estate. Maybe not noble, but there are plenty of others who wouldn’t hesitate to fight the victims family in court for years.

Not a Rae fan, just sayin

I didn't dig any deeper, but I'm surprised custody is a possibility and someone didn't seek to terminate his parental rights.  I'm not a family lawyer, but seems like if you pay someone to put several bullet holes into your girlfriend while your son is in her womb, then maybe your parental rights should be terminated.

Rae should have gotten Ray Lewis’ attorneys...

Um, Ray Lewis' attorney advised him to turn state's evidence and snitch.  He did, but his buddies were found not guilty.
