We should have hired Kiffin. Everyone already hates us. He would have relished and absolutely leveraged the villain role being the head ball coach at Texas.

Oh man that would've been worth the hire even if he failed. Would be so much fun to watch.

Dude, it's never too late. It's Lane Kiffin; you could have him on the sidelines by Saturday. He probably already has the team goodbye text drafted.

Why stop there? Why not hire Mike Leach?

I don't understand why Kiffin is considered a hot property every time there's an opening at a blueblood SEC school. He's 45-27 in P5 football. The turnaround at FAU was impressive but he followed that with a 5-7 year.

The only ranked teams he's beaten in his whole career are #13 Arkansas this year (by one point), #11 Indiana in last year's bowl, #4 Oregon way back in 2011, #18 Arizona in 2010, and #21 South Carolina in 2009.

And he doesn’t even give entertaining press conferences.

LSU coaching search: 6 primary candidates identified by CFB insider

Quote

It didn’t take long for some possible candidates to come up shortly after news leaked that LSU and Ed Orgeron had agreed to a separation.

Bruce Feldman of The Athletic and Fox Sports released 6 names of coaches that he believes will be in contention via a tweet on Sunday.

Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher is listed as a candidate despite some struggles early this season. However, Fisher and the Aggies did beat Alabama in Week 6 so that surely helps his standing. Fisher also coached at LSU under Saban.

Michigan State coach Mel Tucker was also listed as a candidate. He has vast SEC ties with coaching stops at LSU, Georgia and Alabama. He also has coached several seasons in the NFL, which is often a selling point in recruiting.

James Franklin figures to be a candidate for many coaching jobs including LSU’s. In his eighth season at Penn State, the Nittany Lions are 5-1 after a 23-20 loss to Iowa in Week 6.

Oregon coach Mario Cristobal is 5-1 this season in his 4th full season for the Ducks. He also knows the SEC after spending 4 seasons at Alabama.

Kentucky’s Mark Stoops is another coach that will continue to emerge as a candidate for vacant jobs. Stoops has made the Wildcats relevant nationally. They are 6-1 and No. 15 in the nation even after a 30-13 loss to No. 1 Georgia on Saturday.

As usual, Lane Kiffin is the wildcard. The Ole Miss coach has his Rebels at No. 12 in the nation with a 5-1 record. This is only Kiffin’s second season at Ole Miss but he’s left an SEC job quicker than that. Kiffin left Tennessee for Southern California after just one season with the Vols.

Orgeron fell from grace quickly. The Tigers were 15-0 and won a national championship in 2019.

Woodward will absolutely make Jimbo say no - probably multiple times too.  They have the pre-existing working relationship, so it's not a wildcard for Woodward what he gets with Jimbo compared to other coaches.  Jimbo can bring his girlfriends to practice, too.

Yeah these two seem destined to go to Baton Rouge...

Some alleged insider on Tigerdroppings claims they’re going after an offensive mastermind and everyone is jumping to the conclusion that they are luring Lincoln Riley to Baton Rouge.

He would be throwing away tens of millions of dollars of guaranteed money.

I just don't see it.

I want it to be boomhauer for so many reasons, he’s doing a pretty good job recruiting at aggy and they need to get back in line.  Plus the wails from college station will be loud enough to hear in Austin.

The down side is we are going to be in division with LSU and that little fucker would win an MNC at LSU. The last 2 dipshits proved it’s not that hard.   Also I think he would impact our recruiting Even more at LSU than he is at aggy.

Just off lulz alone?   He takes the LSU job and Elko along with him.

Sports are still hampered with a lot of old, baseless, fucking stupid logic when it comes personnel decisions and the "passing down" of genes and skills.

If your dad was known as one of the best defensive coaches in the country, you will get more than your fair shot at job opportunities because surely, you might be a genius too.

They’d probably just promote Elko to HC if Jimbo leaves.

Fun tailgates.   I give them that.

plus much prefer hanging out with them than my Aggie kinfolks.

Coin flip. I’ve worked with a bunch of both. It’s like Siamese twins after surgery, but one got the better football parts.

Tiger droppings resident insiders are hearing the Riley chatter at 11-12 million a year. Last known buyout was 4.5 million if he left for another job. Year 1 investment would be 33.5 million not including assistants to get Riley to BR.

Riley is just angling for more money.   OU won't let him get away.  they will pay whatever he asks for.

OU lifer unless he gets the NFL itch.

LSU needs to part ways with O at the bye. When they tapped him as interim after Miles was ousted it was clear he was auditioning for the full time job. The current staff doesn’t have someone like that there, they need to give one of them the reins with the understanding he’s auditioning for gigs elsewhere. It’s toxic to keep him and it was clear he is simply showing up and standing on the sidelines. Can’t blame him.

No half measures, if you announce a coach is out— pull the bandaid.

My thoughts too. That’s LSU wish-casting. You can make an argument that LSU has easier recruiting but OU does just fine and is gonna be in that league soon. OU will find the cash to match what LSU comes up with.

To my knowledge, there have been two times a coach left a school that won an NC in the BCS era or CFP era for another college gig without a “retirement” or NFL stint: Kiffen from UT-East to USC and Fisher from FSU to A&M. It just doesn’t happen often.

Riley’s situation is not like either of those.

One is a degenerate alcoholic who’s fun to hang out with until he steals the meds from your medicine cabinet and tries to bang your wife. The other is a deeply closeted homosexual who comes over with his ugly beard wife and won’t shut up about his church and his latest mlm scheme.

LSU keeps the defensive staff in place and recruits pretty lights out defensively on state allegiance and name brand. Riley would be interesting, he’s proven that his best teams with the best offenses in football aren’t enough to win a title. That mother fucker could win a couple titles with them and then head to the NFL. Fuck that’s a depressing scenario
