P&H bought LeTourneau.  Komatsu, in turn, bought P&H.  All occured within a 6 year period.

I saw on the web Komatsu still making the huge Letourneau models, at least recently. Pretty cool to see

Is that where they still make the big loaders? I don't drive through there very often anymore, so I didn't realize there are only two domes left. I know there was a tornado several years back that did some damage, but I didn't realize it was that extensive.

A tornado damaged one in 2017.  The winter storm of 2021 collapsed one. A third one was puposely taken down in the fall of 2021.

Man this thread died ignanimously.  Dragged my 20 year old Mahindra out of the barn yesterday and started cleaning it up.   Needs a bunch of electrical work but still runs like a beast.

Looking forward to my 4 year old grandson climbing all over it tomorrow.

I drag my parking lot (about 3 acres of gravel/dirt) after a few heavy rains, and was looking at one of these:

https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/tarter-45-ft-land-grader-100-series-(black)-lg1145bl

Anybody have one or similar?  My box blade gets "full" and heavy, I was thinking this may be an option.

Definitely the land plane for that application.  if the majority of the material is in the right spot, they're much easier to fine grade with.  What size is your tractor?  Agree with @davidg that a dealer is most likely going to have good input and potentially more options.

Not sure how I missed this thread. I love my little mahindra. Bulletproof so far and essential on my little tract of land.

Now I want more yellow iron posted from @G650. Fuck you for that tease 2 years ago. Moar!

I want to drive a D11 just to feel that power. Childhood dreams and all.

It’s small. 26 horse diesel kubota. 4 foot box and 4 foot shredder, perfect size for my 2 acres of natural area back behind my house. Kind of sucks for a lease day when I have to cut a bunch but that’s 2 days a year. I was about to get a mid 30 horse L series but the added cost to gain a foot of shredder width on flat land was going to be dumb money spent.

Land planes are supposed to be great for gravel road maintenance from what I read on TBN. I would talk to the dealer there in QC to see what brands he carries vs TSC.

Oh and yea, I would buy it from the dealer. I just used an example from a website that I knew would have a jpg of it. I wouldn’t buy anything 3 point from a supplier who buys from the cheapest source with no repair department.

I have a small acreage place and just use the biggest gasoline powered Husqvarna garden tractor for grass cutting and a self powered Swisher tow-behind for brush.  I am beating the shit out of them and probably need to upgrade.  My biggest issue holding me back is making the switch to diesel.

How to you guys deal with diesel?  Did you go ahead and get a storage tank big enough to be able to get a company to make deliveries?  Or do you just schlep it around in the back of your pickup truck?

Thanks.

We have a 500 gal tank gravity feed tank for the family property.  Buy 250-350 gallons at a time and treat with biocide/anti-gel and run a filter in the hose. I keep my personal tractor on a different property and if I don’t want to road it up to the barn I’ll just haul 5 gal jugs.  Probably going to buy a 100 gal portable tank, put it on a heavy duty pallet with battery and electric pump.  I can use the FEL and pallet forks to load into the truck or a trailer and haul to the fuel jobber.

There are several threads on Tractorbynet forums on fuel transfer tanks with ideas like this:

I have an auxiliary tank in my truckbed that I keep full of red diesel, although I’m beginning to wonder if it’s worth it as the last time I went to fill up the price of red diesel was $0.11 higher than green diesel at the Murphy down the road. Dad has a gravity feed tank but he’s burning 150-ish gallons a week so it’s worth it for him. Not sure that would be cost effective for you if you’re on a small piece doing hobbying more so than farming.

Also, if you’re using it primarily to mow, level dirt and driveways, and garden then I’d put the husqvarna in the for sale ads and go grab myself an 8n.

While you speak the truth, I wonder how practical it is for most people. 2 of my 4 tractors have a loader and in the last ten years I can count on one hand how many times I’ve used any of the front attachments not counting the hay spear. Dad is on 110 acres and helps grandma with her 2600 acres and the only tractor with a front loader is the 54hp JD we use to pull the hay rake and move bales with.

It depends on what you will use it for I guess. I have been building/repairing roads on my place over the years. I use the bucket a lot. I use it to lift heavy shit, move rocks, even load bags of corn in it so I don't have to climb up and down a ladder to fill tall feeders.  I couldn't imagine not having a loader.

Exactly.  I don’t manually lift shit if I can scoop it with the bucket or grab it with the forks.  8’ section of telephone pole for a corner post?   No problem, just throw a strap on it and lower it straight down into the hole.
