Without the taxes from buying and selling, the public wouldn't have a way to pay for services.

Interesting that you make this distinction in taxes, though, of course, fire and police (and roads and other services) are not necessarily solely paid through sales taxes. I imagine there are many different strategies.

Again, out of curiosity, are sales taxes less socialistic than property, income, or other (VAT, district, dedicated fees)  taxes? If so, why? I must be missing something.
