I'm right there with you. I miss playing at least some defense. [/also old man rant]

You don't have to be old to remember when the Spurs played good team defense. They were fourth last year, and have slipped all the way into the 20s this season.

The Spurs defense is 6th in the NBA with White on the court and 25th without him. Last year the Spurs defense was 1st in the NBA with Dejounte on the court and 18th without him.

This team can't survive with both of those guys out. We are trash defensively without both of those guys.

The good news is the future looks decent if White and Murray can stay healthy.

If you want the team to make the playoffs, they're gonna need to make some hay the next 6 games.  4 out of the next 5 are home games before the RRT and the away game is the Cans without AD.  Then 5 sub .500 teams in a row before a tough 3 game stretch on the road and then the Grizz into the ASB.  I wouldn't be surprised if we went 1-3 or 2-2  the last 4 dependent on health as we have a nasty b2b (@GSW, @ Por) before finishing up at Utah and Memphis.  Probably need to go 5-1 the next 6 if you want to improve seeding, because 4-2 may end up 5-5 going into the break.

Welp.... so we can at best go 1-3 in the last 4 before the ASB.  We went 5-1 leading into it, which is what we needed including 5 straight before a lackluster effort vs the Kings.  4 losses in a row means Memphis is a much needed win.  6-4 in this 10 is right about what was expected so just get a win @ Memphis and rest up over the break.

I don't understand how Bertans isn't in the 3-point shooting contest.  Did he turn it down?

Here are the participants:

Name 3PM	3PA	3P%
Devin Booker* 91	277	.329
Seth Curry 66	138	.478
Stephen Curry 226	503	.449
Danny Green 123	292	.421
Joe Harris 121	267	.453
Buddy Hield 193	427	.452
Damian Lillard** 153	418	.366
Khris Middleton** 119	314	.379
Dirk Nowitski** 22	69	.319
Kemba Walker** 183	498	.367

Davis Bertans 105	225	.467

* Defending champion
** Not in NBA top-40 for 3P%

I can kind of get Dirk on his retirement hurrah.  But Khris Middleton?

I turned the game on during the Texas/KSU half. What a colossal fucking mistake. The Spurs are in danger of losing to a Memphis team that already checked out and isn't even playing Conley.

Sad fact: This is the first Spurs post in nearly three days. That might be an in-season record for any Spurs board in memory. Of course, it’s also totally understandable.

Playing Toronto tonight... I am not anticipating a win.

That's next Friday..... opener off the ASB.  The next 6 days are boring.  They really should have the trade deadline next Wednesday to have something to talk about for the league.

https://www.expressnews.com/sports/article/How-Patty-Mills-became-the-flag-bearer-of-the-13632061.php

Still, the Spurs value the 30-year-old backup guard in a way most other franchises could or would not.
Mills is the keeper of the Spurs Way, the last strongest link to their bygone championship era, the remaining flagbearer of what so many across the NBA refer to — simply and nebulously — as “Spurs culture.”

“Patty is the spiritual leader of the team,” coach Gregg Popovich said. “He’s energetic all the time. He’s always positive. He coaches the young kids. He’s been a huge key in that regard.”

How the fuck is Toronto only an 8 point favorite at home tonight? Am I missing some sort of raptors injury? They honestly could run the Spurs by 40 after the beat down they took in SA earlier in the season. I'm sure this will be emotional for Derozen but I would be stunned if it didn't get ugly.

I'm not sitting here expecting it to get ugly. If Derrick White is playing and we have some semblance of defense while he's in, we'll hang. Apparently he and LMA are on the injury report (wtf. how many days of fucking around do you need to get healthy these days?). If they're not 100 we'll get boat raced.

Really feels like Demar is throwing this game on purpose.

LOL!  He's a really good player but not a very good closer, IMO.  Maybe there's some advanced stats out there which proves me wrong, but from the eye test.

Good effort, ends with a L.  That was back court BTW!  That was bullshit.
