Nick Bosa is done with college

Love how this shit always ends being a race to cast aspersions on the player. The NFL is the culprit here, if you insist on placing blame. While NFL guys getting millions is deserved based on the money the NFL draws in, they also have made the rules that force college players to make these decisions. I am pretty damn sure all of us would have dropped out of school the minute some million dollar job offer came along, fuck that full ride and National Merit Scholarship. I am also sure many of us would drop out of school if several, reputable firms sent out reps telling us we could make several million a year if dropped out of school and spent the next 6 months studying a narrow curriculum they devised.

NFL is now the NBA. The product is now boring and both leagues essentially give the middle finger to college athletics. So many bust first round picks in both leagues because you have fucking agents who want to make money and convince kids they should leave college to go make money.

Once in a generation players like Durant, Earl Campbell  (who honestly could have gone pro out of high school), VY, Adrian Peterson (fuck OU) are fine to leave early. I know EC didn’t leave early but it shows the difference in generations. Kids now a days are so quick to want to make money and say “fuck school!” that it leaves college football and basketball programs in a worse spot than before they got there.  Deshon Elliott leaving is a picture perfect example of this. If he came back this year, finished his degree and matured as a player his senior year, he would probably be a top 40 pick.

Of course Earl probably made less than $100K when he first entered the NFL. Adjusted for inflation, I imagine Deshon's guaranteed money as a 6th rounder was more than what Earl got as an elite player. I also doubt Deshon ever sniffed the first day of the draft, much less as a borderline first rounder. He wasn't going to somehow get faster or quicker staying another year. He breaks his arm here at Texas like he did in NFL training camp and he could have ended up with nothing but a free agent invite when he finally got healthy.

To each his own I guess. I was raised differently.  Stay in school, honor your commitment , rehab, train and be a good teammate. But then again I’m not a first round pick.

and you don't have to deal with urban meyer and cesspool in columbus.

DeShon should have returned, but he was never going to be a top 40 pick.

Brandon Jones, on the other hand, is someone who could benefit from returning from his senior season and putting up more good tape, because he has 1st-round athleticism.

I wonder if an actuary has ever done a public assessment on whether a player should stay in school or not. There are a lot of uncertainties, but since insurance companies are willing to set up policies for players I am going to assume it isn't impossible. The difference between 3rd and 6th round money isn't really that great, especially when there isn't a 0% chance that you get injured and end up with nothing. Getting a bit less money a year earlier probably balances some of the difference up front and then the fact that you are also a year earlier in getting that second contract reduces the difference a bit more. If you legitimately have a shot at the Top 40 then, there could be enough upside to make staying another year worth it, but that is where the uncertainties get really muddy as the profiles of those who end up in the Top 40 probably aren't easily quantified. I am still not sure I buy that Deshon was going to make a ton more money if he stayed, but I do know if he blew out a knee or got a series of concussions while playing for us this year he would walk away with a nothing from the NFL.
