I am as disappointed in this lineup as anybody my age and obviously Guns N’ Roses has long since peaked      But I know myself and thousands of my contemporaries in Texas are much more excited for guns and roses at ACL and then we were about metallica    And I watched that Metallica show and really enjoyed it as someone who really liked them along time ago.

Having said that the last couple of years while I didn’t know most of the bands, there was a re-focus back to a lot of rock ‘n’ roll  and associated genres     I know most of these bands are acclaimed but there is a market shift back to hip-hop, electronica, and DJs.    People enjoy it and it sells tickets so God bless em.   After listening to some samples ,   There are a surprising number of hidden gems at the very very bottom of the bill     But this has got to be the worst midsection that I have ever seen and that’s saying something

Lol wut? Yeah, they don't have as much of a cross generational fan base as Metallica, sure, but they do have a cross generational fan base.  My ex-gf didn't listen to any music at all from that genre but loved going to see GNR and there are a lot of younger people from my generation like that. And their music is just filler for athletic events?  Have you heard anything past the first 3 singles from Appetite for Destruction?
I'm a die-hard GNR fan so I may be a little biased here, if that's not your thing, that's cool.  But what other metal/hard rock band from that era could they have brought who would have been more appealing? I literally can't think of a single metal/hard rock band from that era that has more cross generational appeal than Metallica.

I had never heard of Laundry Day, but thought to myself, "What a great band name".  Then I looked them up.  Holy fuckity fuck....they are horrendous.

And good one @Deej  I long since ran out of rep today.

An unfortunately large percentage of that bill is comprised of "who will play our festival for $500?".

On Spotify, Laundry Day has 57 monthly listeners.  For comparison, Seven Circles, a Taco Deli manager's band, has 7 monthly listeners.

not sure what you guys are complaining about, I have it on good authority that this is one of the best lineups in years.

For its two-weekend 2019 edition, the Austin City Limits Festival will have what is perhaps its best lineup in years. Hard rock giants Guns N' Roses headlines, performing their first Austin concert in a quarter century, along with British folk-rock troubadours Mumford & Sons and multi-talented hip-hop star Childish Gambino. Donald Glover's hip-hop project returns to make up for the fest sets he missed last year after injuring himself during his Dallas concert right before ACL took place in 2018.

Older fans will no doubt be drawn to hear Axl Rose wail on "Paradise City," but they'll also get a thrill catching newly-minted Rock and Roll Hall of Fame goth pioneers The Cure, as well as Radiohead leader Thom Yorke's side project Tomorrow's Modern Boxes and '90s alt-rock radio kings Third Eye Blind.

A critique of ACL's earliest years was the lack of younger acts, but that's not the case this year. Not only will a number of artists appeal to a more youthful audience, but many of them are women. Millennial festival fans have Grammy-winning Cardi B and "After the Storm" singer Kali Uchis to look forward to, plus two of 2019's biggest breakthrough artists so far, 17-year-old electro-pop sensation Billie Eilish and 31-year-old rapper Lizzo.Joining Childish Gambino and Cardi B in the hip-hop realm are popular artists Lil Uzi Vert, 21 Savage and Tierra Whack. Adding to the musical and geographical diversity are international standouts Tame Impala, which is dead-set to headline every festival in 2019 it seems, Swedish dance-pop queen Robyn, and English producer James Blake.

But it's not a true ACL Festival without a few Texas stars shining brightly, of course. Kacey Musgraves, arguably one of the hottest names in the music world right now, is piling up festival headline slots the way she's been stacking awards for her 2018 Golden Hour record. And Austin guitar hero Gary Clark Jr. is a sure candidate to draw as large of a crowd as anyone.

The inaugural 2002 edition of the Zilker Park-located festival saw headlining sets from Texas country star Pat Green, indie-rock outfit Wilco, songwriter Patty Griffin and jam-band String Cheese Incident. The ensuing 18 years welcomed a greater amount of rock, rap and electronic artists as it grew into a three-day festival before becoming one held on consecutive weekends in 2013.

Austin City Limits Festival will take place on Oct. 4-6 and Oct. 11-13. Tickets are on sale and available at aclfestival.com.

Below is a list of the 2019 ACL Fest by Genre.  What bothers me is that there is a 33% decrease across all Rock genres from 2018 (39 artists in 2018, 26 artists in 2019), while all other genres remain the same!  As someone who saw the first two Lollapooza festivals in 1991 and 1992 (the modern day re-start to the music festival), this is a big disappointment.  I would certainly want to see the first two Lollapalooza lineups more than the 2019 ACL fest lineup as I saw Guns N' Roses open up for the Cult BEFORE Appetite for Destruction had even been released on September 12, 1987 at Palmer Auditoreum (Yes I am OLD AF!):

Dates: July 18, 1991 – August 28, 1991

Main Stage: Jane's Addiction, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Living Colour, Nine Inch Nails, Violent Femmes , Fishbone, Ice T & Body Count, Butthole Surfers (occasionally billed as "BH Surfers,") Rollins Band, Lords of Acid, EBN[5]

Side Stage: Othello's Revenge (Mountain View at Shoreline Amphitheater)[6]

Dates: July 18, 1992 – September 13, 1992

Main Stage: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ministry, Ice Cube, Soundgarden, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Lush.

Side Stage: Rage Against The Machine (Irvine Meadows), Tool (Waterloo Village, NJ), Jim Rose Circus Sideshow, Sharkbait, Archie Bell dancers, Porno for Pyros, Basehead, Cypress Hill, House of Pain, Sweaty Nipples, Arson Garden, Seaweed, Seam, Smashing Pumpkins, Green Magnet School, Boo-Yaa T.R.I.B.E., The Look People, Stone Temple Pilots, The Vulgar Boatmen, NIN, Skrew, Tribe, The Authority, Samba Hell, Café Tacuba Groovement,Gary Heffern with Ivan Krall, Ice T & Body Count, Treponem Pal, Luscious Jackson, Shrunken Head, Sometime Sweet Susan, Temple of the Dog, Dahli Llama, Gun Cult Prophets, Doo Rag, Billyclub Fest and Sweet Lizard Illtet.

Totally zoned in this but I’d love to see Iron Maiden or Judas Priest.

I made a playlist a while back of my ideal Priest concert...a set of songs from '76 (Sad Wings of Destiny) through '79 (Hell Bent For Leather).   I would pay good money to see that show.

Friday Pilots Club - pop rock? sound like I've heard them on the radio

DUCKWRTH - not bad rap

after-show list won't be out for another few weeks.  But you can usually piece that together by just looking at the tours of the bands you want to see.  A lot of them head out between weekends to play shows in Houston, Dallas, New Orleans, etc.  Looking at their tour schedule, I'd say it's either Thursday, 10 October or nothing at all since the rest of that week is filled up with shows and travel.  And if they played an after-show, it's gonna be one of the larger venues like Moody or Stubb's.  So check those venues regularly.

I'm probably most excited by The Cure, and they're really old.  Saw them at ACL several years ago, and this weekend on the RnR HOF induction ceremonies.  At this point, Robert Smith is starting to look like Mrs. Doubtfire.  Pass.

maybe, but his voice is still strong, and the guy is a highly underrated and awesome guitar player.  Out of this list, GNR and Cure about it for me.  GCJR is awesome.  OTher than that, terrible.  Billy Eilish is just straight freaking garbage, but someone said she was great and people didn't want to go against the grain because she's young, the music is different and if you say it sucks people will claim you're sexist, old and just don't "get it", but she's simply terrible.

There seems to be an undercurrent of people who are determined for everyone to see Billy Eilish as the next Fiona Apple.
Here's the thing, though:  she isn't.

Preach.

It seems more like “sone promoter with sunk costs and/or a star seeking boner” than “undercurrent” but tomAto toMAHto.

Agree.  I also saw The Cure when they last played ACL Fest  and had two reactions:  (1) holy shit Robert Smith is looking old and rough, and (2) they still sound incredible.

So for the first time in several years I failed to purchase the early bird wristbands, and now Weekend One is sold out.  What is the best way to get a three-day band, and how long should I wait for prices to drop?  Right now the cheapest prices on the ACL Fest Verified Ticket Exchange are $495 for the first weekend, and I think I can get a band for cheaper than that.

if you are wanting a 3 day and willing to wait you will probably pay 350.00-400.00 if you wait until a few days before. Its the Saturday first weekend lineup that is driving the demand.

Last year, I waited until 2 days before and got a pair of single day VIP wristbands for $150 each. You can wait until the day before since the big resellers all do will-call pick up. I can’t remember which one I used (not stub hub) but the day before ACL the fed ex arrived empty. It only took a 2 minute phone call and they did same day delivery of two new wristbands. Customer service was fantastic.

Is there a way to post it here somehow?  Or see it on a browser?  You know C3, for those of us not currently trying to meet up with friends at the AV stage in 20 minutes and just sorta taking the long view?

Particularly that second Sunday.  Wowza, trying to rally yourself to make it in time for Bruce Hornsby.  I mean, I love the guy and all and maybe a little bit of Mumford and Sons.   First Sunday at least has Otis the Destroyer, but overall-Meh, as the kids say.  Anybody want to buy my three day pass on Saturday night?

Sunday may be the worst single day lineup in the history of festivals.

You aren't kidding. I had gone through and favorites the artists I wanted to see based on my listen through of the acl playlist I mentioned earlier. I had a good number of them hearted.

Second Sunday had 3 bands I'd liked. Duckwrth who I'm not completely sold on and is at 1pm so I probably won't make it. Then Banks which I can't remember if I actually liked, or if I thought my wife would like or what. Then the wife's top pick third eye blind conflicts with Kacey Musgraves. At least I have Lizzo.

yup, I'd probably think about skipping sunday if the wife wasn't dead set on Third Eye Blind. Lizzo should be fun though. Also really bummed about some of the conflicts on other days. Tyler Childers and King Princess, Jenny Lewis and RL Grime, Megan Thee Stallion and Diamante Electrico, Lauren Daigle and Pink Sweat$, and the biggest for my wife and me, Gary Clark Jr and Billie Elish.
