Yes and no to your underlined sentence (full agreement on your second sentence).
And, it depends on how we define "alpha" -- if you try to fully match it up to what we thought the wolfpack definition was, no, it doesn't work.  But there ARE men who are natural leaders and command others.  I've seen it WAY too many times, I know it's real.  Any man who has been a member of a team (sports, military, large organization) has that experience.  There are just natural team leaders.  It happens and sorts that way, rather quickly.  It doesn't mean that the "alpha" in one situation will necessarily be an alpha in every situation (the clear team leader on a football team may not be the leader later in life when he's working on a business team).  And I'll suggest that part of true "alpha" conduct is to NOT be tied up in status, but rather results: a real "alpha" doesn't play like insecure Donny Trump and say "I know more about nuclear energy than anyone."  A real alpha gathers info, listens to knowledgeable people, and then makes and executes on a decision.  He's an "alpha" because he's secure enough in his status that he's not afraid to get information that may disagree with his initial inclination/instinct, and he can act on that new information.....and importantly, people will FOLLOW HIS LEAD.
Maybe a better term is "boss."  But even then, it doesn't really capture the full spectrum of what we're talking about.  It's just good leadership.
In BOB, Dick Winters was an "alpha."  Sobel was not.  It had nothing to do with their rank.  It had everything to do with how they took and exercised leadership.
These pathetic bastards think you're an "alpha" because you roid up and yell at people and wear tactical underwear and shit like that.  They have literally everything about the issue wrong.

Sounds like something a gay-tarded little beta would say.

The whole right wing "alpha male" obsession is about fucking losers who are fucking losers by nature trying to claim a title that was never going to be theirs, and by the very act of trying to claim it, they prove they aren't ever going to be worthy of it.

You could have just said "Aggies".

Good leaders first learn to follow. Good leadership requires understanding and exhibiting a good mix of intelligence, humility, and empathy and as you note, is context specific. Except for the pretty-introverted, there are plenty of adults who would often be considered "betas" by pissbabies who actually are or would be great leaders in certain settings. It's just that those settings might be, e.g., a D&D campaign rather than a football field.

I don’t know whether I should feel complimented or insulted

Saying Assless chaps helps the mind picture a bare ass in chaps.

And who doesn't want to picture a bare ass, am I right?  For example, that picture above.  Dude could lose the jeans and underwear and drastically improve the look of that outfit.

"Yellowstone" star Forrie J. Smith took to Instagram on Saturday to say he was "kicked off" a flight and left stranded in Houston after refusing to sit next to another passenger wearing a mask

"I just got kicked off a plane," Smith said. "Because I told them I didn't feel comfortable sitting next to somebody with a mask on."

“I’ve been sitting in an airport for three hours. Ya, I'm drinking," Smith, who plays Lloyd Pierce on the hit Western series, continued. "I ain't drunk, but they throw me off the plane because I'm drunk, because you people won't stand up and tell everybody what bulls--t this is.”

"I just told them I didn't feel comfortable about sitting next to somebody that had to wear a mask, and I'm off the plane," Smith reiterated before the video ended.

In the comments, people asked why Smith cared if another person was wearing a mask. Many suggested instances where masking would be appropriate for protecting their health and others.

It's unclear what airline Smith was traveling on. His representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Smith has previously been vocal about his public health beliefs. He skipped the Screen Actors Guild Awards in 2022 due to Covid vaccination requirements.

"I’m not vaccinated, I will not get vaccinated,” Smith said in a now deleted Instagram video. "I believe they compromise your immunities … It’s no offense to anyone. It’s just my beliefs. I just don’t believe in that stuff."

Saying assless chaps is like saying sleeveless tank tops.  By definition, chaps have no ass material, and tank tops have no sleeves.

Yes but assless chaps are visually not the same as chaps.

The Brisketexan assless chaps.

Some mockery at my right wing neigbor.

He put up some sort of Walmart special flagpole, then ran a dOTaRD flag up it. It lasted a couple of days, maybe a week (not sure on the exact day it went up), before the wind bent the flagpole over at the base and it just fell over.

I really hope that clip was taken out of context and she's talking about a local group of the nazi party that held a rally in the state.

Here's a little more about it:

https://www.pressherald.com/2024/04/03/ban-on-paramilitary-activity-passes-by-one-vote-in-maine-house/

Here is a little more with what she said (from the link above)

Quote

Rep. Laurel Libby, R-Auburn, argued that those rights also extend to neo-Nazis – even if one disagrees with their message and stated goals.

“It’s is our duty to protect the Nazis’ right to free speech and association, as long as it does not infringe on someone else’s rights – as long as they are not harming someone else,” Libby said.

More from the article:

Quote

Rep. Laurie Osher, D-Orono, submitted the bill in response to efforts by Christopher Pohlhaus, a prominent neo-Nazi, to establish a paramilitary training center in the northern Maine town of Springfield. He later abandoned those plans amid public backlash that followed a Press Herald report on rising activity among hate organizations in Maine.

And in 2021, a group of armed men in uniforms calling themselves the Rise of the Moors was traveling to Maine with the stated goal of paramilitary training. That group was apprehended in Massachusetts after an armed standoff along Interstate 95. They did not have licenses to carry firearms in that state.

On the one hand lock that fucker up.  On the other, it's a drop in the bucket.  I used to read a blog that once a week ran a list of all the people who were either clergy or outspoken "family values" republicans who had been arrested for either kiddie porn or else the rape of children.  I don't recall that list ever falling below 15 in any given week.

It may not have been you, but somebody posted that blog on here a few years ago.  And while I wanted to hurt those people, eventually I just got exhausted reading it.  I know it's of no comfort to the victims, but it was brutal to keep up with.  Obviously, it's been going on for millennia and never knew party lines in this country until 250 years ago.  We know more about it know because of public records, legal disclosures, and now the internet.  But it was always this way.  People hide behind "values" and "ethics" and "God" while they do this shit.  That ain't nothing new.  But the truly disturbing part is they're now in charge of digitally endorsing "pro-family" candidates to enact legislation, once in office, that will visit even more cruelty upon women and children and LGBTQ+ communities.  We are moving into a different phase of history that is even darker than before.  The cruelty remains the same, but the pulpit from which they can hide it has gotten much, much broader.  These populations will make it out the other side in about 20 years, but there is much, much more suffering to go.  And I am genuinely saddened by it.  We will always have people like these sexual predators and bigots who hide behind "Faith."  But they've never had such a mechanism on which to visit so much pain.  Once again---our prize lack of imagination.

Akshallyyyyy, the article doesn't elaborate on the juxtaposition of the Nazi reference and the paramilitary group named The Rise of the Moors so allow me:

The latter group are from the Moorish sovereign citizen movement, a subgroup of the sovereign citizen populace, that follow the teachings of the Moorish Science Temple of America. The MSTA holds that African Americans are descendants of the Moabites and are therefore Moorish by nationality and Islamic by faith (wiki page here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moorish_sovereign_citizens)

So, one might argue that some of this boils down to black people with guns make white people nervous more than white people with guns and I agree with @Sawbonz that it is indeed amazing that the standoff ended peacefully.

Running for Senate in Michigan but live and registered to vote in Florida.

https://www.newsweek.com/michigan-republican-candidate-living-florida-mike-rogers-1888388

Republican hoping to represent Michigan in the U.S. Senate suffered a setback to his campaign this week after facing allegations that he lives in Florida.

Former Congressman Mike Rogers, who has made much of his local roots in a bid to win over voters, faced backlash online after the staff of Democrat rival Elissa Slotkin released information on X, formerly Twitter, apparently proving he is still registered to vote in the Sunshine State.

But he was soon hit with disparaging comments from X users after Austin Cook, Slotkin's communications director, shared Rogers' post with the caption: "Fun fact: @MikeRogersForMI is literally registered to vote in Florida *right now*"

He attached a screenshot apparently showing that Rogers has been registered to vote in Cape Coral, Florida, since January 2022. His party is listed as the Republican Party of Florida, and his voter status was "active."

The allegations have left some voters disgruntled. Several people accused Rogers of being a "carpetbagger," a term for a candidate seeking election in an area where they have no local connections.

"Sounds like something someone from Florida would say when they are trying to run for Senate in Michigan," one X user said.

An X user posted, "Then why aren't you running in Florida? You live there, after all."

Another told him: "Nothing says 'proud Michigander' like someone who packed up, left, moved to Florida, and only came back to run for Senate!"
