OK, Candace... I'll show up where you work and slap your ass before I assertively tell you "Go get me some some coffee, sugartits!"

PS:  If you want to go back to "the way things used to be" prepare to be on TV way less and also to sit at a separate lunch counter.

And back in the day if she refused to get you coffee after slapping her ass you could just go ahead and fire her obstinate ass.

Damn the old days were so much better.

Lastly, that true "patriot" is displaying flags in an improper fashion, and they are tattered as well.

edit:  oops.  had to follow hugo's link to see that pic.  sorry.  when i said the one above, i hadn't seen the second pic.  i meant the first one that has two cars.

Bill Burr is garbage. Louis CK is garbage. Joe Rogan, Jerry Seinfeld, blah blah all the rest of these whining fuck old guys who are deeply hurt that they've gotten old and that the young people no longer like them. It's absolutely pathetic.

Bill Burr is a little better than CK and Rogan, but not by much.

Like Cookie, CK is heading towards 1488 RAHOWA on a greased-up lightning train

I think it's more that older comedians are lamenting the loss of their medium, which was once (ironically) a safe space to be irreverent and slay sacred cows. Now every word they say is judged (often out of context) and prone to be put on blast on social media, igniting a mob of people more addicted to outrage than passionate about social justice.

Raises the question, however, who are the comedians the socialist left thinks is hilarious? Or do you guys just eschew stand up comedy because almost by it's very nature it must be insensitive and edgy to be avant garde and funny?

I'm pretty damned liberal. I don't think you realize how few of us are part of those frothing-at-the-mouth internet mobs. Possibly because you never bothered looking.

But when we show up places to protest, say, Trump, the right of course lumps us in with these radical left social media mobs in order to minimize our message.

This. My family is left of center (well, per the view of Trumpkins, at least)...and we make cracks like these at home on the regular. I didn’t take his remarks to be anything exceptional to egregious. Comedians try edgy shit. Sometimes it’s funny, sometimes it falls flat. He gets a bit shorter rope because...well, come on, dude.

I like jokes that are either self-effacing or punch up at the more powerful. I do not like jokes that punch down at the less powerful.

It's not complicated.

Also... avant garde? Why did you use that phrase? Do you even know what the shit you say means?

We're talking about guys with millions of dollars and tens of thousands of rabid fans. What medium are they losing?

The bold part is the key: They're old and they're mad at how old they are. They wish they were cool, and they're mad at the kids who don't think they're cool anymore. It's pathetic.

Please explain it to me.

They want to be edgy and offend people, but they draw the line at the offended people speaking up about it? What is it that is actually happening to them beyond them being criticized or argued with?

The nature of professional comedy is changing. The change agent is outrage. Now, people have always gotten off on outrage, but these days, on social media, they can join massive internet mobs. Mobs are bad.

Sure, these guys are millionaires, but they also care deeply about comedy. It's their life's passion. I don't think it's envy of youth; in fact, I think the opposite is in play. Young people are more likely to let a younger comedian who looks and talks like them get away with "edgy" humor. Age bias is a thing.

Louis CK obviously did some fucked up shit in his personal life. When it came to light, it harmed his reputation. Every celebrity that opens up and masturbates in front of non consenting adults is rolling the dice, and in my book, he's deserved the harm his reputation has taken. I'm just pointing out that misplaced outrage is a growing problem for comedy (and our society in particular).

Now, let's get back to making fun of the alt-right.

Make an argument. You're not saying anything. This is all so vague.

Yeah, that's my whole point. Watch the CK bit I posted above.

These guys are old and they are upset that the young people don't like them. A tale as old as time. It doesn't portend any dramatic shift in anything, it's the oldest story in the world.

Comedy is subjective. Your point is some young people don’t like them for being edgy. Were the jokes funny? Don’t know but will watch the set. But to deride it solely based on subject? That’s some crusty old 1970s establishment bs. And wrong, may I add. I think ndawg was more correct above then I can describe here, but if the joke is funny, anything is fair game; parkland, trans, the brown kiddie concentration camps, thin blue line, aoc, cancer, fuck it. I’m a firm believer in gallows humor for some people. Not all, sure but that doesn’t mean that it shouldn’t be told bc some people are sensitive. Sometimes people deal with hell by using humor. It’s all fair game. True the jack off assault stuff should make him tread with care but his soft r jokes were fucking brilliant.

Rule #1 is be funny, which usually goes with innovative, if he was then the outrage is wrong. Unamerican. A comic should never bow to pc. Ever. Let your huts hang. If you good/funny, then keep going. If not, you’ll see a blank quiet audience and that’s life. Do something else.

if the young’s are offended oh well. If the young’s don’t like them fuck it. Doesn’t mean the comic isn’t good or “cool” (another subjective adj.) The generations are balanced enough to where one segment can support a comic regardless if they “piss” off the others (not that he did but cough Jeff fox worthy cough). The only difference is, everyone outside of the youngs used to know that you had a magical power.. change the channel. Don’t buy the ticket. You don’t care for an artist? Then don’t pay attention. Dice clay holla! Sometimes that’s ok. I firmly believe Censorship is last ditch sword reserved for extreme cases, mmmkay? To use it everywhere where you disagree is unamerican imo. But this outcry solely cause he made the jokes? Lame. Not good for an open society.  Those people are wrong and we shouldn’t let them dictate how our society is socially run. There is a middle ground between those extremists, middle American and racists ass  Trumpkins. God, I hope we can find it as a society.

And happy new year you surlholes, not trying to be a dick but this is a subject I feel strongly about. Honestly interested in your viewpoint BT. Just that with comedy.., it’s not something that should ever be sanitized. Neutering today’s comedy is neutering Pryor and Murphy due to the dominant culture they faced and that’s... well that’s just fucked up.

Make an argument against what?  You thinking that some of the greatest living comics and all time greats are garbage at what they do?

That clip you posted is probably offensive to many but it's hardly out of line with what CK has been saying on stage for decades.  He's rightfully skewered for being a perv and sexually assaulting women, but nothing in that clip surprises me.

And yeah, I'm sure Bill Burr, who at the peak of his career is selling out arenas, has a TV show, and co-owns a comedy production company is mad at the youth.  The same youth who writes into his podcast on a weekly basis, helps him sell out shows, and clearly hasn't rejected him.

I agree with your takes most of the time, but you are way off here.  Trying to censor stand-ups is a terrible and losing battle for the left.

I posted the link to the fucking performance. It's not dismissing him based on subject matter, but the actual jokes which you can hear.

I didn't think the jokes were funny, I think they were stupid.

Is it innovative for old guys to whine about the young? Is that, as the dumbest cookie on earth calls it, "avant garde"?

It's a sad, disgraced white man clinging to his relevance and power by going reactionary and bitter. It's pathetic to see.

They're obviously great at being professional comics, which means that they gather an audience and get paid to do so. I call them garbage because that's what their worldview (at least on stage) merits.

"Hey they're selling out arenas!" literally means nothing. Trump packed arenas.

Who is doing that? No one. Fucking no one is saying that we should cut out their tongues or not allow them to sell tickets to shows.

What is happening is that they are being criticized, which they (and their fans) absolutely cannot handle. So delicate is the white male ego that being criticized is the same as being "censored".

- *tells offensive joke*

"That's offensive and you're an asshole."

- "CENSORSHIP!"

What is this sudden love of walls insanity.

Reagan calling the Russians "the evil empire" plus "tear down that wall!" has devolved into "I'd rather be Russian than a democrat!" plus "Build The Wall because Walls Work!".

Conservatives are stupid gullible rubes with no memory, critical thinking skills or integrity. They are dangerous goons.

Imagine being teary eyed and swollen with patriotism and pride over Trump and the concept of walls.

Jerry Falwell Jr. going strong in the paint:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/magazine/jerry-falwell-jr-cant-imagine-trump-doing-anything-thats-not-good-for-the-country/2018/12/21/6affc4c4-f19e-11e8-80d0-f7e1948d55f4_story.html?utm_term=.a3a06d1721bd

Quote

You and other white evangelical leaders have strongly supported President Trump. What about him exemplifies Christianity and earns him your support?

What earns him my support is his business acumen. Our country was so deep in debt and so mismanaged by career politicians that we needed someone who was not a career politician, but someone who’d been successful in business to run the country like a business. That’s the reason I supported him.

Quote

The deficit and debt have increased during his first two years.

Yeah, Congress, the spending bill that they forced on him in order to get the military spending up to where it needed to be — he said that would be the last time he signed one of those. But he had no choice because Obama had decimated the military, and it had to be rebuilt.

Quote

Is there anything President Trump could do that would endanger that support from you or other evangelical leaders?

No.

That’s the shortest answer we’ve had so far.

Only because I know that he only wants what’s best for this country, and I know anything he does, it may not be ideologically “conservative,” but it’s going to be what’s best for this country, and I can’t imagine him doing anything that’s not good for the country.

Quote

Is it hypocritical for evangelical leaders to support a leader who has advocated violence and who has committed adultery and lies often? I understand that a person can be forgiven their sins, but should that person be leading the country?

When Jesus said we’re all sinners, he really meant all of us, everybody. I don’t think you can choose a president based on their personal behavior because even if you choose the one that you think is the most decent — let’s say you decide Mitt Romney. Nobody could be a more decent human being, better family man. But there might be things that he’s done that we just don’t know about. So you don’t choose a president based on how good they are; you choose a president based on what their policies are. That’s why I don’t think it’s hypocritical.

There’s two kingdoms. There’s the earthly kingdom and the heavenly kingdom. In the heavenly kingdom the responsibility is to treat others as you’d like to be treated. In the earthly kingdom, the responsibility is to choose leaders who will do what’s best for your country. Think about it. Why have Americans been able to do more to help people in need around the world than any other country in history? It’s because of free enterprise, freedom, ingenuity, entrepreneurism and wealth. A poor person never gave anyone a job. A poor person never gave anybody charity, not of any real volume. It’s just common sense to me.

He will absolutely not be saying personal behavior doesn't matter the first time there's a gay person with a major chance of being president.  He'll be claiming that the gay's lack of morals and lack of contrition for that moral lapse is disqualifying.  I can't wait until that happens, and I hope someone is there to throw that quote in his face when it does.  Fuck him.

This is the equivalent of a trial lawyer showing the poor character of a criminal defendant by introducing a witness to testify about the lifetime of charity work the defendant has done.

This is what these morons think is NEGATIVE information.

Again, they think that "look at this video of an 18 year old girl dancing and having fun to promote her university!" is a slam.  And to the moron base, it will be.
