I'm wondering who will burn redshirts this year vs who won't. Four games is the max. According to the graphic, the following freshmen have played in more than four games: Foster, Sterns, Buijeveski, Cook, Dicker, Eagles, Ingram, Jamison, Moore, and Ossai.

Jalen Green has played in 4. Is the staff planning to keep playing him or keep him in development to retain his redshirt? Seems a little weird to use a year of his eligibility if he's just relegated to special teams.

From the BJ Foster thread, the other freshman are Green, Overshown, Woodard, Adeoye, Coburn, Angilau, Epps, Rising, Thompson, Moore, Ghirmai, Ojomo, Vaughns, Williams, Carson, and Jones. Any of these guys likely to exceed playing time in 4 games?

Herman knows that to make a run beyond the regular season you've got to have quality backups, and quality backups behind them. This is especially true in the Big12 with the round robin schedule plus CCG.

It would be nice to have a large group of guys every year that are seniors mentally and physically, but realistically that's going to be the smallest class's every year. If recruiting gets to the level of someone like Bama (back to back to back etc..top 5-10 recruiting classes) then it won't matter too much if a Freshman shirt is burned.

It's certainly a balancing act. New coach has to give HIS guys some playing time as much as possible, he HAS to have wins and he HAS to get some buy-in from senior players. Can be a delicate situation.

Yes, I would recommend following along in the roster thread above.

We will be losing 8-9 starters on defense next year, plus a receiver or two. Players such as Cook, Green, Overshown, and Ossai will likely be playing much larger roles next season. Ideally, we ease in the freshmen by playing them in garbage time, but since we haven't been blowing teams out, the next best way to do it is to play them on special teams so that they can adjust to the speed and physicality of the college game.

I think Dele was going to be on this track too, but his injury set back his development, and coaches decided to shirt him this year. I'm sure we'll see him down the stretch in the final games.
