The NFL Referees Association said it would challenge the firing.

“The NFL has a troubling history of knee-jerk reactions with an eye on public relations, and clearly it has not learned from past mistakes,” NFLRA Executive Director Scott Green, a former referee, said in a statement. “The NFLRA will protect the collectively bargained rights of all officials and will challenge this reckless decision through the grievance process.”

Why can’t these fucking unions EVER just admit that one of their members deserved to be fired?

It's not really their job to do so.

Because that guy is paying money to the union so they'll defend him.

Why don't defense lawyers ever just say "look, my client's rights may have been violated and the search may have been unconstitutional and he may have been beaten during his interrogation and only confessed during a waterboard session and may be totally innocent of these charges but he did something else illegal so he deserves to go to jail"?
