4 different crew members have used the holo to get freaky in some variation this season alone:

Gordon
Bortis
Isaac
Claire

You know it's a regular thing.

I think in the future, everybody will be a holosexual.

I want to start watching this.  I can stream season 2 for free, but have to pay for season 1.  Fuck that.

Check your local library.  Here in Austin, they have half-a-dozen copies or so.

If you can binge-watch, grab a Hulu trial or whatever

Honesltu, could jump into season 2 and be up to speed quickly.  They do carry a lot of jokes and stories over from season 1 though.

Miss Season 1 and you miss most of Alara, which would be criminal.

You should be aware of something - they use their version of the holodeck for porn.    There’s a couple scenes where you don’t want a spouse or kids walking in while you’re watching Orville.

Another TNG throwback. Directed by Riker, and had Troi in it.

Also had Tony Todd(Candyman) who played Worfs Brother Kurn in TNG and a grown Jake Sisco(Captain Sisco’s son) in an Emmy winning episode of DS9.

They really bring the old Star Trek characters out for this.

Love the "planet of females" trope

Queen Of Outer Space - TOS

Birthright - SG1

Futurama - Amazon Women in the Mood

Buck Rogers - Planet of the Amazon Women

I did not really enjoy that one so much.  We had already done the "Moclans are evil sexists" thing.  I get that they wanted a different take on the female planet scenario, but There was no need to revisit Moclan culture to do it.  I like that Bortus is Worf with a lot of ridiculous twists, but he has been getting too much focus.  They need to explore some of the other characters, races, and species a bit more.  Seth tends to get too enamored with something, and then beats it to death.  Still a fan, but that was a meh episode.

Klyden is an ass.  I don;t know what Bortus sees in him.

Pretty much.  Felt bad for Klyden last season a few times...but this season he's completely turned into a dick.

They can just divorce so Bortus can murder him and go back to whacking it on the holodeck?

For those of us who watched TNG (and DS9) back in the day, I'm fairly certain we all had our own versions of the holodeck sex lagoon.

Damn season 2 finale next week

Orville reddit is all over the place - people looking for confirmation of season 3 based on hints provided by producers, etc.  Disney has complicated everything, but people are hoping they won't delve too far into the Fox network's business for now - they have already canceled a couple of high-profile shows, but Seth apparently brings them in a shit-ton of money and they want to keep him happy.

Edit: It makes my head hurt: Disney owns 66% of Hulu, and they apparently are keeping their more non-family friendly stuff on Hulu (which is basically a shit-ton of Fox/FX/FXX content).  Speculation is that if Orville is not picked up by Fox proper, then they might make it a Hulu original, or shop it around (like they did with American Dad).  All of the production stuff and what's owned by Seth's companies is confusing.

It would be completely in FOX's MO to cancel. You only have to look at Firefly. I really don't see them cancelling an apparently popular show. But, Disney is at the helm.

I thought this week's episode was fantastic. I spotted a few plot holes like the Kaylon ships not being able to track them, but Isaac was still powered up when the ship went dark.  Did they disable his remote access and tracking? Even if so, wouldn't they pick up his (and the humans) life signs? Is a thin layer of ice that good at cloaking?

I had the same thoughts.  How shitty does Kaylon tracking tech have to be, especially with they vastly superior intellect?  And how could the Orville crew be sure that the Kayon vessels left?  Visual confirmation through the ice?  Ummm, okay.  Of course this sort of thing happens in every episode, and does not impact enjoyment.

The ending confused me a bit as well.  Did the memory wipe not fully take?  Why did Kelly-7 seem disoriented to be back in her apartment?

  • Separate time line?
  • Same time line with implications that we haven't yet seen?
  • That's how the 9:00AM call went, but Kelly changed her mind later?

I think the confusion was intentional.  My take is that the wipe did NOT fully take.  And next season we get to deal with a new reality that maybe lets Ed & Kelly start fresh.  Sorta.  Maybe.  Now Kelly will be walking around with some memory of the original timeline, but nobody else is.  Except maybe Isaac or some other alien less affected by the temporal shift.

In any event, i think it's a fantastic storyline.  Really well done.

My take is she had no conscious memory, but her subconscious was telling her to bail. So even though the memory wipe worked, the event will still fuck with the timeline.

I'd rather chew on glass than discuss temporal theory though.
