No problem with someone wanting to be trans. I have a problem with them choosing to physically compete in sports against girls.  Girls (like my daughters) don’t get a choice.

Oh im sorry. Is your daughter going pro in a sport?  And is she being inhibited from doing so by a trans athlete?  That would be incredible, considering trans athletes are like .00001% of the population.

Interesting how so many of them only become interested in the truth when faced with large financial liability claims in courts. Rudy or Alex Jones' financial fates are one of the best results in the last few years.

I'm perversely rooting for Elon to continue going after govt individuals before he officially joins the govt. He has zero protection coverage when he's naming people on Twitter today, and arguably he won't even when he is holding some fake office next year.

I'd love to hear anyone who wants to have an honest discussion regarding Disinformation and Censorship refute the videos this guy presents on this Joe Rogan.

Yes, yes I know Joe Rogan is the debil, ...blah, blah, blah...

stick to plain facts and third party videos presented here if you want.  A lot of this is extremely damning.

I'm not gonna watch hours of joe rogan and a trump official/racist troll lol. From my source for the racism claims, which Benz admits to:

Quote

The pseudonym, Frame Game, posted videos and participated in podcasts and livestreams during the rise of the alt-right following Donald Trump’s election. Frame Game avoided showing his face in his videos or appearances, during which he pushed a variety of far-right narratives including the “Great Replacement Theory” that posits the white race is being eradicated in America for politics and profits. In others, Frame Game said he was a white identitarian, railed against the idea of diversity and made montages urging white viewers to unite under the banner of race.

In interviews with white nationalists, Frame Game blamed Jews for “controlling the media” and for the decline of the white race. “If you were to remove the Jewish influence on the West,” he said in one video, “white people would not face the threat of white genocide that they currently do.”

Frame Game stopped posting in 2018. A review of his content revealed various details that match Benz’s appearance and life story. Benz, in his public posts and appearances, has not espoused the same racist views as Frame Game.

Frame Game went to some lengths to conceal his identity but inadvertent slips during several livestreams — in which he would often visit webpages and toggle between browser tabs — betrayed his anonymity. In one video, Frame Game brought up a website that automatically pulled a Facebook profile picture into its comments section. The picture appeared to be Benz with his then wife.

...

Reached by phone, Benz declined to speak to a reporter saying he was “very busy.” When asked if he had a comment on his previous writings as “Frame Game,” Benz hung up. He did not respond to voice messages and text messages with a detailed list of questions.

Hours after publication on Friday, Benz posted a lengthy statement confirming his connection to the Frame Game account. He said the account was a covert effort intended to somehow combat the anti-semitism it espoused. “The account in question was a project by Jews to get people who hated Jews to stop hating Jews,” he wrote. “Let me be clear: I am extremely proud of this.”

1.) Fundamental flaws with his assertions around CIA/State Department actions to build anti-disinformation infrastructure assets through NGO's.   Specifically, Atlantic Council and the "360/OS" conference that was training journalists how to discredit claims instead of refuting them ON the video around 1hr 30min in.

Whats ironic is the piece by NBC news linked here is pretty much the 4D's in the Rogan podcast.

I don't endorse Benz or know literally anything about him prior to listening to the Podcast.   He lays out an interesting history of internet censorship that syncs pretty damn well with a number of my personal experiences/recollection of events over the past decade.   I take it all with a grain of salt, but it certainly fits in this thread.

Can you tell me what you mean by "the 4D's in the Rogan podcast"? Like, in your own words, synthesized with your own ideas?

Because the NBC reporting is pretty goddamn factual, they even go to Benz and he confirms that he was the person posting a bunch of antisemetic and horribly racist shit under an "anonymous" handle.

It's the framework they are training the journalists to use to identify and report disinformation to internet platforms.

I think the subsequent responses (redirecting you to smaller snippets of a podcast) reveals that the answer is “no.”  Here is where I will say that the preferred brand of conservative and alt media (hours of audio slop, TV yelling, bloviatkng with no pushback) actually damages consumers’ ability to synthesize information and identify theses and supporting arguments.  So I’ll do it for him:

Benz claims that at Atlantic Council journalist seminar aimed at training people to recognize and respond to disinformation is part of the U.S. government censorship apparatus.  He is concerned that the framework presented, which tells journalists to be aware of how information ops use tactics of Dismissal, Distraction, Distortion, and Dismaying.  Benz rejects this framework because none of those tactics involve the deployment of actual “false” information and alleges that Atlantic Council is advocating for censorship of political viewpoints. He objects to the use of a DJT tweet and Brexit slogan a case studies for the framework at the training.

A coherent response might be:

1. Rhetoric that uses tactics of distortion, dismissal, destruction and dismaying is a feature of info ops and the Atlantic Council does not suggest banning the tactics. Rather, it is equipping journalists to recognize and probe this type of rhetoric, not to simply repeat it mindlessly.  This isn’t censorship, it is the opposite, it is building the foundation for challenging, critical, and open discussion.

2.  The audience (journalists and fact-checkers) are not in a position to censor or silence people and Benz does not demonstrate how this session leads to tech censorship.  The audience members are only in a position to question people, which is an important element of free speech.

3. Using DJT or Brexit as an example could be seen as ill-considered given that the session is funded with U.S. grants. On the flip side, given that it was filmed in 2019, it could be seen as evidence of grants working as intended: a third party training that equips journalists to ask hard questions and criticize even the U.S. and its allies when warranted, and defending the principles of fee and healthy debate rather than serving a narrow political aim.

Incredulity, what restructuring are you talking about about? You just keep framing this as "whatabout X? Whatabout Y?" I don't agree with Benz central thesis of critical rhetorical analysis being censorship

Halloween Massacre in 1979.  Carter Administration eliminated a significant number of clandestine staff.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stansfield_Turner

President Carter wanted reforms on the intelligence agencies, whose reputations were discredited due to the Watergate scandal (Church Commission), and other controversies that involved spying on citizens, against the antiwar movement and other dissident groups in the United States, and international assassination plots (Human rights violations by the CIA).[13] Turner sought to revamp the Agency in several ways, first appointing several high-ranking naval officers, known as the "Navy mafia", to leadership positions and also by fundamentally altering the Agency's traditional methods of intelligence collection.[14] Under Turner's direction, the CIA emphasized technical intelligence (TECHINT) and signals intelligence (SIGINT) over human intelligence (HUMINT).[10] In 1979, Turner eliminated over 800 operational positions, most of them in the clandestine service, in what was dubbed the Halloween Massacre.[15] In a memoir published in 2005, Turner expressed regret for the dismissals stating, "In retrospect, I probably should not have effected the reductions of 820 positions at all, and certainly not the last 17."[16] The reductions applied to Vietnam-era personnel according to later-era employee and novelist Jason Matthews.[17] Turner also oversaw the beginning of Operation Cyclone, the CIA's program to arm Afghan guerrillas in their fight against the Soviet Union.[18]

I do not agree with this, the twitter files were a big wet fart of nothing. Yes, we know that you didn't like it when the nazis were deplatformed. They were not censored. Taking down conspiracy posts that were being boosted by RUSSIAN STATE INTELLIGENCE is not censorship.

Sorry you care so much about Hunter Biden lmfao. Maybe don't use Rudy Guiliani as a primary source next time.

Thank you for letting us all know what you're referencing. So what's your point? Restructuring happened, therefore, it was done to censor conservatives? That's quite an unsupported leap.

They are:  "Cyan Cruz, a 40-year-old marketing professional who appears to have lived in Austin and Amarillo and operates the X account TheOfficial1984; Michael Gramer, a 42-year-old retired mechanical engineer who has lived in New Hampshire, operates the X account 9mm_SMG, and has claimed to have a house in Galveston and to be spending time in Dallas; Robert “Bobby” Thorne, a 35-year-old vice president at JP Morgan Chase in Plano, who operates the account Noble1945 and previously operated the account Noble_x_x_; and John Anthony Provenzano, a 30-year-old who appears to live in Virginia, operates the account utism_ (formerly known as JohnnyBullzeye), and, according to a tip and a records request response from the U.S. Navy, works at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Indian Head, Maryland—where the Navy manufactures explosive ordnance."

Feel free to do so if you want a response, I left a template up thread. I can’t work off of this and a copy pasta from Wikipedia about a historical event.

The issue here is that given the breadth of topics and Rogan’s audience, none of them have the frame of reference to begin applying skepticism appropriately. Ordinarily we have “journalists” who “prepare for an interview” and “ask informed questions” to help the consumer apply that skepticism.

Here’s a simple informed question: “You referenced your role in government working in the online communications space.  You were appointed politically in late November 2020 and your last day was no later than January 20 , 2021.  The State Department never even posted your biography.  Do you think you had enough time in the role to fully grasp the policy and history?”

But that question won’t get asked, because Joe Rogan is the info op, not the Atlantic Council. And you’re the target.

Nah.   I was sort of riffing on your comment to keep it the same way it was 1000 years ago… as if the people 1000 years ago really had their shit down on all these issues.

My original thought was to say I did not know they had high school women’s sports 1000 years ago. Which probably would’ve been a better choice.

I’m unaware of Rogan or any of the rest of the comedy adjacent podcast world representing themselves as journalists.  Part of the reason I don’t normally listen to most of Rogans podcasts is he doesn’t actually do much interviewing of the guests.  It’s mostly guests talking, with affirmative grunts by Rogan.  Generally I think exposure to ideas and opinions outweighs any downside of individuals taking the verbal essays of the guests as hard facts.

There is definitely a need for journalists to practice that interview in your described format, especially in the political sphere.  However, individuals actually doing that are in quite frankly in very short supply.

Hilariously misinformed.

Europeans as late at the 18th century believed that men and women could both turn into the opposite sex if social/moral conditions for that person were met, and there are marriage records that reflect that.

It's only within the last 175ish years that Western society has become so strict and intolerant to gender non-conformity. It was never celebrated like it can be today, but it also wasn't nearly as stigmatized and dangerous.

And this ignores the history of many indigenous cultures that had a third (or more!) gender that our colonial ancestors have done their best to stamp out.
