Simply fantastic matchup last night in Salt Lake City.
Deep blue. Deep red.
It was outstanding.

Disagree, looks like two teams wearing their jammies. Unless the color is white, you shouldn’t wear the same color jerseys and pants.

This has been true since the first football game was played between Australopithecus Afarensis v. Robustus…

Afarensis won on penetrations BTW…

1. Nike didn’t fuck up the flag.  Back in the olden days, say about 1944 or so, that is how the flag appeared on the uniform.

2. Another falsehood- that the flag doesn’t beling on athletic uniforms. The deal is, you can’t use an actual flag to make the uniform, but a patch worn in good faith?  Fuck yeah.

glad y’all are on the watch for such transgressions that only exist in your own minds. It’s like a military institution would give zero fucks about honoring the 101st or any of the others from the past.  Y’all are on the watch.  SMMFH.

Back in the sixties, before the SEC decided visitors must wear white jerseys (except at LSU), Bama and Tennessee always played in solid colors in Birmingham.  Blood red, pumpkin orange, green stadium steel, and vivid green grass.  Nice contrast.

Mileslong was referring to the color rush aspect of the uniforms with colored pants, not the red vs blue aspect.

Fair enough.  Never much been a fan of same color jerseys and pants other than all whites with some stripes on pants, with traditional headgear.  Texas, Bama, Pedo State and Alldumb whites are classics to me, except Alldumb are disgusting, just because.

What the hell is an Alldumb?

He is trying to say "Auburn", but what you have to understand is that typically those unfortunate enough to be born with severe fetal alcohol syndrome (or in Alabama parlance "Licker Brane") may grow up with some developmental delays.

That's what I assumed, but I couldn't see the connection.

I can't throw too many stones.  Some of my fanbase thinks it's cool to type out "Hoks" instead of "Hawks" as a way to insult them that I've still never been able to comprehend.

Back in the 60’s and 70’s both Tennessee and UCLA wore their orange and blue jerseys home and away.

Because of the lightness of their colors you could easily distinguish between them and their opponents on black and white television.

When UCLA played here in 1970 they wore their blue jerseys and the color on the field that bright sunny day was spectacular.

That field looks like painted concrete. Brutal.

Personally, I would just insult them by calling them "Iowa."

Not football, but I kinda find it humourous that the "city edition" uniform is the only one that refers only to the state and not the city. Also funny to me because a lot of people in Tulsa were originally butthurt that they went with "Oklahoma City" and not "Oklahoma" ala Utah and Minnesota. I was on that boat for a little while thinking they needed support from the whole state to make it work in that small market, but they became really good really fast and OKC sufficiently supports the team. Most Tulsans who don't have other allegiences are mostly now on board. I'm just glad I don't have to pay for a billion dollar arena to replace the other one that is only 25 years old.

I didn't think Navy could get near the level of Army's Screaming Eagles at Bastogne look but fuck if they aren't right there. If it was a Tomcat instead of a Hornet in the photo op, it would be perfect.

Agreed. At first glance I thought it was an F-14. The avgeek in me got a semi.

Polynesians in America are here mostly because of the Mormon church. A lot of them are LDS. Tons of them in Utah.

I'm well aware.  Whites are 94% of Utah's population, Pacific Islanders are <2%.  The only reason the football team promotes the culture is to keep the recruiting pipeline open.

Exactly, it’s all just a recruiting BJ. I also agreed it’s dumb AF. Just like how they shy away from their drum and feather logo for the shitty interlocking UU.

Well, and the players already on the team love it

I give Navy the edge here. Army's look like a better version of every smaller team's generic blackout uniform (the snowy shoulders are great). Pirate shit is always awesome and Navy gets the aviation aesthetic in there too.

Pretty much what it felt like too.

We used to play a lot of pick up football games there at night back then.

Dittos. I dove for a pass once. Once. My forearm and lower leg looked like they'd been painted red.

It was great back then, though, with the running track around the field and all the kids taking an evening jog, and the football and frisbee playing on the field. Sometimes the band would be out there practicing, and you could see the touch football games get a lot more animated when they were playing "Texas Fight!"

Oh, well. You know the saying, "How many Austinites does it take to change a light bulb?"

Seven. One to change the light bulb, and six to talk about how great things were in the sixties.

I appreciate the symbolism but aesthetically they are just too busy, too much going on, the sleeves especially, and I don't like the numbers. The helmet is pretty darn cool, Mike Leach would be drooling if he got to see them.

Is the Rose Bowl as magical as it looks on TV? I was only 16 when Texas won it all against USC but it has always been a dream of mine to visit that stadium.

Yes. 3rd time going and it’s like going to Wrigley or Fenway. Just a throwback to the way things were. The only drawback is the long walk to get out to the concessions or restrooms. We were up high but getting out at the end was easy because they let you leave from the top down the club access area. The tailgating scene is great. The fanzone was just okay but all the USC and UCLA fans together was awesome. They definitely have more active hatred than Texas and OU.
