Exile on Main Street is possibly the greatest album ever.

And it might not even be The Stones's best album.  I could argue for both Let It Bleed and Sticky Fingers (I could argue for Exile too).

The sequencing of Let It Bleed is perfect.  You start and end with songs that could equally be argued as the greatest rock songs of all time.  It never drags.  The exact mid point is the title, which is a brilliant country song.  The whole album is a perfect intersection of rock, blues, and country.  Every single song is fantastic.  The only knock on this album is how they didn't credit Robert Johnson properly on Love In Vain.

I’m not really familiar much with this band but I heard this today for the first time and I thought holy shit that’s a song the stones should be doing. So I thought I’d post here.

Talk is Cheap is a fucking MONSTER. Didn't Charlie Watts reportedly say that it was the Stones album they'd been failing to make for over a decade when he first heard it? But it's clear that Keith could only make that album without Mick. Had it been a typical Glimmer Twins production it wouldn't have been anywhere near as good as Keef wouldn't have worked as hard and Mick likely would have tried to sweeten it up and make it more pop radio friendly. In the end we're just lucky to have gotten it.

I read an interview at the time with Keith where he said he invited Mick to his house to listen to the final cut. Mick didn't seem impressed, and Keith pretended to go to the bathroom while it was playing, snuck back and peeked around the corner to find Mick dancing to it, then went back and loudly closed the bathroom door, walked back out to find Mick just sitting on the sofa, looking nonplussed.

Crosspost: One of the best country songs. Car horn gets me when I'm on the car every time.

The fact that the World’s Greatest Rock and Roll Band wrote some of the best country songs ever is such a fucking testament

It is a bit sad when yoir rock and roll heroes start wearing Sketchers, though.
I went to my 1st Stones show a couple weeks ago with an older close friend of mine who grew up with them. He saw them a few times in the '70's and hadn't seen them live since, but he's a huge fan.

I saw him a few days later, and after a little reflection his takeaway was how docile the crowd was. "Every Stones show I saw there somebody shooting up heroin next to me, a gang bang in the bathroom, and just pure madness. This one was grandparents bringing their grandchildren!"

We both thought they sounded great.

Isn't a gangbang however many dudes and one woman?

That fits the Surly demographic.

It’s the 1 woman who’s attendance I am uncertain.

And I just don’t get how people could accuse mick of being bisexual, especially based on that video.

I just realized that Keef plays that in standard tuning, which to my knowledge is pretty unusual for him, at least on most Stones songs.

Bonus:  Mick is a pretty damn good singer.  Not just a great front man, that's obvious, but he's actually able to nail pitch when he isn't running around like a crack-addled Daschund.

I think he used it more in their "compete with the Beatles" days, but by the time of the classic run, he was mostly in Open G.

This is the truth. From Sticky Fingers on its mostly Open G, though there were one or two open tuning tunes on Let it Bleed and Beggars Banquet I think.

Mick is taking in the Olympics amongst the common folk while exhibiting great interest in the fencing competition a few days back. (Son, Devi, to his right.)

Maiden fan is equally engaged in the match.
