No chatter on the latest album? It’s pretty good.

My eight-year-old is chattering about it! He's been running around the house for weeks singing, "Call Me Mr. Charm, Mr. Charm, Mr. Charm." He does a mean Mick. His other favorite right now is, "Button your lip, BAY-BEH!"

I have some time to kill and am listening to Sticky Fingers followed by Let It Bleed. The latter is my current #1, but I always like to take the opportunity to re-evaluate.

My random edits to make notes, most of which are obvious, positive reactions:

Damn, Wild Horses is just fantastic.

And then it just gets awesome with CYHMK

Side 2 slow songs are hitting well right now. I just got to Sister Morphine, which I've always considered the weak point. We'll see this time.

Unexpected family time requested in the middle of Sister Morphine. So I hope to revisit later.

Who knew, right

I think it was the second song I ever played in public

It probably was the first Stones song I learned on the guitar. I still have my guitar lessons notes. Brown Sugar probably was the second song of theirs.

"Jumpin' Jack Flash" for me, but I played it in standard tuning, so probably Keef-adjacent.

That was an early one for me too, along with Start Me Up. And I play them all in standard tuning. I didn't learn about Keith Tuning until much later. I think Can't You Hear Me Knocking benefits most from doing it open G, but I can't be bothered.

You know, I couldn't be bothered. If the chords are essentially right, and the melody and lyrics are right, then fuck off to the purists.

Sometimes it sounds better. Sometimes it doesn't make a shit.

I used to "jam" with a family member and his buddy, mostly at holiday events, and said buddy was a huge Dylan fan. I am not. I mean, I respect Dylan, but I don't know the catalog in depth. This guy would call out a song -- let's say on Halloween, in a front yard -- and he'd ask if I knew it. "Well, I'm familiar, but I've never played it, kick it off and I'll follow along". He would lose his mind if a transition came two bars early or whatever. I'm used to playing live, I just listen to the others and fit in, but sometimes you need to go for the chorus or whatever and this fucker had no idea to listen to everyone else and come to a compromise. He would stop and yell. I'm no pro, but fuck amateurs. It's a collaborative process.

Sorry for the rant.

Wow, that story started out with lots of optimism, then it got dark. I'm sorry you had to jam in that situation.

No big deal, but I learned to listen to the room in HS band, our director was fantastic. This guy couldn't ever get out of his rigid world. It was weird. It's just rock 'n roll. Listen and come to an agreement in real time.

Wild Horses is my favorite song of all time. My wife walked down the aisle to it.

I’ve been having the best time with Monkey Man

So speaking of tuning, the second Stones song I ever did was Paint It Black. On the album, it's tuned about a quarter step off with a capo to be just under E, but the time, late 80s, the Stones played it in D in standard tuning so that is how I learned it and have always played it.

Just keep a Tele tuned to Open G with the top string off. You post here, so you must have several dozen guitars.

#325

I did the Keith 5 string Tele thing very early on, when I was like 16. Kinda gravitated away though and just fake it anymore. Though I did do it maybe a year or two ago for old times sake when I was restringin my Tele

Sister Morphine is probably my least favorite song on Sticky Fingers. It's still pretty good, but if I'm skipping anything it's that.

It's not Mick's best vocal performance for sure.
