Based on how stone dead quiet this has been, with the regular "in the know" people not even knowing, I'm betting it's Venables and there won't be any announcement until after the ACC championship game.

Venables also said he wasn’t interested. Yeah yeah coach speak or whatever. But to me, I don’t see him going there.

That would be a home run hire for Tech so it's likely not going to happen.

In what way would a guy that failed miserably as a Big 12 DC be a home run hire?

Uh, Venables was the guy that was there when OU had a pretty salty defense. Once he left, they fell apart when it was just Stoops running the show. Last I heard, he wasn't doing too badly at Clemson either.

Venables was behind some salty defenses at OU but they were already falling apart before he left.  A change in scenery did him well.  In no way would his stent as DC in the big 12 be considered failing miserably.

I have very little faith that Tech will make a hire that will turn the program around.  When it comes to football they just fuck everything up.

Two coaching hires, one of which was made by people not involved with the current one, doesn't really constitute a trend in my mind.

Point taken.  I guess I have just become jaded, and I my expectations are low.

It's really not that difficult to do, even at my age. Geez. You are stupid.

I can't get past Illinois coming in at #13 with a $5m salary to Lovie Smith.  4 total wins.  2 total conference wins.  $5 million.

Was going to post the same.  Also, Brian Kelly's total compensation can't be right, he must be getting at least $2-3 million from outside the university.

That was my exact thought when I saw the list.   That one and Fischer were the two glaring knucklehead moves

the Tubby Smith was not a bad hire at all he took a program that had been burned and buried and made it competitive and then he chose to leave

I doubt Beard would have come to Tech if Tubby had not made Tech a much better team so quickly from the disaster after Billy G

and with Lovie Smith I believe there was something published that the contract extension changed up the future buyout so it might not cost as much to fire him after/during next season

Heard The Musers discussing the Gus Malzahn/Bob Stoops rumors and I think any buyout of Gus would be in the neighborhood of $40M. (Oops, looked at the USA Today link and it's actually $32M.)

If I stuck my dick in a gloryhole, would I be able to tell the difference if it were you or he on the other side? Probably not.

You been sticking your dick in them both enough to tell? That’s a weird Pepsi challenge.

If Malzahn's buyout is $32 million, I don't understand why he's accepting changes he doesn't want.  Auburn has literally no negotiating power.  They ain't paying that buyout.

Tubby Smith rebuilt our men's basketball program from scratch.  How was he a bad hire?

1,5,9,3,2 in the past five years is good? Ya think?  Would that be gooder or not gooder than us?

I want to see kliff stay in college and do what he does.  It's entertaining football.

There is no shortage of former Tech QBs coaching in college now.

Sorry, are you really saying holgo would leave WVU for a $100k raise?  As in less than 3%?

also, Jimbo fishers buyout on that chart brings the lulz for sure

No, just pointing out that Tech already pays more so salary isn't an issue.

Other rumored factors: Holgo and WV admin don't really care for each other

Also: Tech is located in Texas - always a plus - even if it's in Lubbock. 😎

I was going to ask what Sonny Dykes is up to, so I looked him up and saw that at least one reporter is already talking about it.

That reporter writes for Yahoo.  So...yeah...he's a moron.

Per Gil Brandt - KK has offers from two NFL clubs.

Am I the only one shocked that:

1.  Gil Brandt is still alive

2.  Gil Brandt has an active, completely lucid twitter account?
