Mack Brown Tarheel Football: The Orange Slice Boogaloo

Tonight, Bobby Burton was point blank asked about whether Mack might be added to the Texas football program.  Bobby said no way... doesn't make sense to add a 800lb gorilla. 😋

Bobby said he expects a TV opportunity will be Mack's next career move if available.  If not, Bobby speculated that maybe an emeritus role for fund raising might be a possibility for Mack at Texas???

The first thing Mack wants to do he said when he gets back to Austin is to socialize again with old pals Dodds and "CDC." It's pretty plain to see what is going on. Mack is moving back to Austin because he is totally irrelevant in Chappel Hill. He was not only fired, but was replaced by someone that is totally is sucking the oxygen out of that place.

Mack's ego can't stand that. He is coming back to Austin to try and restore his relevance again in some way, with people that can help him do that. This ends in either he gets some kind of cushy deal with UT, or he goes back to television, which most likely means at ESPN. Maybe he would try to do both.

I listen to Mack talk about how DKR was 72 when Mack got here and now, I am 73. Royal retired from coaching at the ripe old age of 52. He served as AD for four years and that was pretty much it. Royal didn't like what was going on with college football then. He sure wouldn't like it now.

All Mack cares about is staying in the spotlight, no matter how or where. He proved that in the past and is doing so now.

I don’t know that Royal would hate the game now. Royal was all about his players taking advantage of their opportunities to succeed in later life, therefore his emphasis on academic support and disdain for players selling themselves to shitty schools for short term payouts. He might like this era where a player can start to leverage his abilities into a real start in life, to go with an education.

Could you trust him to do his best fund raising if Sark was showing up everything Mack did at Texas? Who’s to say he wouldn’t phone it in? Better to keep him away from the school. Let ESPN hire him.

Coach Royal would absolutely hate that players can sell themselves to the highest bidder, not caring who it is. The portal lets players do this without any loyalty to a school or program.  Coach Royal hated what is now legal to do. Do you think DKR would be pleased if a player that told him he wanted to play for him, then decided he wanted to go play for Alabama, because he could get more money there. Coach Royal was about commitment and loyalty as he was about anything else. How could players like this even be considered his players?

Coach Royal had no concept that college football would ever become what it is now. It's a lower-level professional league, that many people even consider a job instead of a player attending college and playing football.

Why do you hate capitalism?

and so it begins...it will be so awesome when he starts talking to the big money with an official Texas title.  yeah this won't end badly.

Moreover, does Bobby think or believe that allowing FUPM, "the 800 lbs gorilla", to solicit funds from donors for Texas Football is somehow not a part of Texas Football? Granted I'm going of a 3rd party interpretation from @LTtxfan but I don't see how anyone can think both of those could co-exist. One excludes the other from being a reality.

Mack has turned into a fat tub of shit, but I think 800 pounds is a bit of an exaggeration.

I love capitalism especially since my team is essentially the Dodgers or Yankees of the sport.   But there needs to be “some” structure.  This isn’t Wal mart vs Kmart.  We need teams to play

The structure needs to be for protecting players, not universities.

I dunno.  Royal would probably like that Texas can now pay players above the table instead of trying to compete with Switzer's bullshit at OU.

Put him in a basement office in Belmont, lock the door, and let the asbestos go to work. He can even cash in eventually when the cancer hits by jumping in on one of those mesothelioma lawsuits.

If Mack Brown loves Texas Football, he can stuff his nose in Sally’s old cunt until he is dead, and leave the program to those that deserve to be actively involved in its development.

It’s one of dem goose gander deals.   No honor from either side.  But hey this is what we wanted.

And we benefit greatly from it....I'd rather us keep the competitive advantage we currently have vs going to some highly overregulated shit like salary caps and the old bag system comes back.

I don’t know if I had a very strong opinion of Mack Brown being around Texas after his UNC firing until catching up to this batshit crazy thread, but now I do.

I hope CDC hires him promptly for a big role. This site will burn all the fucking way to the ground and it certainly reads like there will also be a ton of public drama as Camp Mack and Camp Twelve Win Theven spar at epic levels.

Jesus. Kinda early for this dark turn.

For those strenuously against, the bar has been raised.

I’m waiting for the crowdsourcing for a lynch mob, replete with pitchforks, long knives and torches. I don’t think a tar-and-feathering will do. Maybe they’ll gather at the airport.

We need someone to page Mack Brown to the white courtesy phone at the airport as everyone is leaving for the NC game.

Mack needs to polish his brand after his departure from Chapel Hill, so cozying up in the place of his greatest success, where the TV lights are brighter helps him do that.  I feel like he's looking for a spot on the bigger stage with Saban and Urban rather than just chumming around with the Texas BMD crowd.  Sark's success with the team and perhaps an NC in the next few years will bring some collateral shine to Mack (in his mind).  Not sure he would be in Austin if a Charlie or Herman equivalent was there and the program rolling around in the bottom half of the SEC.

Were the University of Washington players pleased when they committed to DKR only to see him bail after one year?

Was he forced to abandon "commitment and loyalty?"

That's not a criticism of Royal, mind you. I'm just sick of this the separate standards for players vs. everyone else involved in the sport in any other fashion.

Coaches can move around any time in the NFL too while players are not allowed to move around freely. Comparing coach movement to player movement isn't fair.

Mack Brown is great at recruiting Lago Vista. Is it DEI to leave open one or two scholarships for good kids from good families?

By the end of his Texas tenure he couldn't be bothered to go to Pflugerville. Mack was fully aware of his detachment. That's why he flew to Florida so he could take a picture of himself standing in the corner of a field at a high school game. Because how could people be convening to organize his dismissal while he was on the grind, turning over every stone in the dirt for the future of the program? Never mind that he traveled on a private jet to get there and the whole thing was choreographed bullshit.

"I'm good at dealing with people! Why can't you understand that?!? WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?!!!"
