With a weakened economy and most of their forces on the western front… that leaves Russia vulnerable.

China… gonna China? That would be the most China thing ever.
Everyone has an eye on Taiwan and they make a play for a chunk of Russian territory.

Maybe Israel will make a move on the the Jewish Autonomous Oblast in eastern Russia. Besides Israel, it's the only Jewish jurisdiction in the world.

This is what I still don't get.  Russia spent centuries trying to be a major power in Europe, and Putin is pissing it all away and putting himself at Beijing's mercy. Hell, even the Soviet Union considered itself a major European power and acted as such.  Putin is acting like North Korea's Lil' Kim and giving Europe a reason to isolate Russia and its puppets.

Stalin would never have put himself at Beijing's mercy.

His economy is shit anyways, and this just makes it worse.  Can he put down a bunch of pissed-off Russians in the streets while trying to pacify parts of Ukraine?

I could be wrong, but I think the Russians will tolerate a lot. Being a Russian commoner is a rough life, they are used to it. Part of me thinks they expect it.

China has more of an economy to lose with an invasion of Taiwan.  And 10 times the people that Russia has, which means a shitload more people in the streets.

Agree but the clock has long been ticking on when Taiwan rejoins China. I don't see it happening with the current direction of China but it will happen in the next 50 years.

Estonia and Latvia could face the almost exact scenario as Ukraine so I'm sure they're concerned. From watching bald & bankrupt videos on youtube, whenever he visit the countries that border Russia, he often remarks that the culture and people are almost 100% Russian as you near the borders. Even down to the point that the people long for the days of Soviet rule, and feel they have nothing in common with their actual rulers.

And if the West does nothing to stop Putin, we also just handed the playbook for China and Taiwan. Not that I think it would occur immediately, China only needs to claim that a breakaway city/region of Taiwan is requesting their help.

Luckily for Taiwan no such region or city exists.  Taiwan is distinctly Taiwan as it was barely inhabited prior to 1949.  The people who flew there were nationalists who were mostly wealthy landowners and the KMT ran the island under a dictatorship for nearly 60 years so any pro China activity has never been able to take root.  Plus Taiwan is run mainly by triad strongmen who has delved into politics but they still hold a powerful grip in Taiwanese society.  The only way China gets to Taiwan is through a fuck you try me attitude

We should call dibs on Sakhalin Island and its oil and gas fields before China does.  Or worst case if Putin invades Ukraine start sinking every fucking LNG shipment that leaves the Island.

So do we think this is going to be a Russia vs Ukraine fight and the rest of the world just stands on the sidelines and shake their fists at Russia?

The only response that matters is Germany’s. Anything short of NS2 being cut off is a win for Putin.

Turkey weighing in, rejecting Russia's claims..

This is big. Turkey still has some real power with the tribes in the Caucus plus can fuck Russia up in Syria. Wonder if they will still buy the S-300 systems.

Unleash the tribes, hit Putin in his nuts out of the mountains. Could he handle the Caucus with so much of his forces around Ukraine?

Does it matter though who buys his oil?  As long as someone is buying his oil he doesn't care.  China will take his oil forever and not give a damn what his policies are.  The rest of Europe he has to use the oil as political capital.  Economically they are still in the same boat.  His leverage right now to get what he wants with the threat of cutting off oil works because places like Germany have no other alternatives that are viable.  Give it a few years and then he has to start bargaining with them because they have other options.  He's at his shit or get off the pot stage.  He is already considered a nobody to Europe except a nuisance with nukes and a rapidly modernized military neighbors.  Each day he is becoming less of a threat and he knows it.

Selling it on the open market will fetch a better price.  Selling it under sanctions will reduce the price.  It will still get sold though.  China is happy as hell.

Turkey is acting in their self-interest here.  If they recognize the split, then the Kurds...

Crazy to think that with such a large population, Russia's GDP is so shitty, and yet they are willing to risk a lot for Putin's Soviet fanboyism.

For somebody who is supposedly so smart, rather than building up the Russian economy, he's willing to fuck it up even more.

So he has no allies in this effort at all, right? Belarus doesn’t count. And China is more likely to take advantage of his weakness than anything else.

And China is at a point where they could easily start getting military hardware contracts that Russia would have been a shoe-in for in years past, if they aren't already. Edit: China could definitely hurt Russian industry/industrial exports.
