the bridges are all out across the Dnipro)

Yeah, lot of reports about the new pontoon bridge being taken out, and in general, the Ukrainians have gradually forced the Russians down to just a few crossings that were within range of multiple Ukrainian systems.

Be interesting to see how hard the Russians actually fight if they are cut off from resupply and reinforcements.

The hilux can haul a bunch in its bed, but can't really pull much, so it's not really ideal for people who need something to tow.

You don’t buy them to tow shit. You buy them because it’s the last truck you will ever own, given they are indestructible mechanically and will run forever.  There’s a reason why they are the vehicle of choice in the third world.

and if they retreat they can only take what's on their backs (or what floats). all heavy gear must be abandoned.

Last truck you will ever own...until you buy a camper or a big boat or anything else over a couple thousand pounds.

I’ve spent my life waiting for a domestic manual diesel hilux.  But we can’t have nice things in this country.

At least you can get a 25+ year old imported one. Perfectly legal to drive.

I can also get you a toe. PM me.

Like how vast majority of truck owners in the U.S. use their trucks.....   Not towing anything?

How is the air war in contested territories going?  Does Ukraine have a chance at establishing air superiority?

Not at all, absent major deliveries of Western air defense and aircraft.  This is one area where keeping airspace contested  is the best you can hope for and a major, major win.  Russia’s offensives would be very different if they had air superiority.

Ukraine simply doesn’t have the equipment to outgun Russia in the air.  And every lost airframe or battery is much more precious.  So they also have to be careful with their assets.

From May:

Ukrainian plans are to upgrade the quality and capabilities of its range weapons units to basically attrit down these forces first and foremost. Sounds like no large scale attacks (smart) until the new Russian forces are worn out.

Also some confirmation of why the Ukrainians view late August as perhaps the moment when Russian forces in Ukraine will reach their crisis. If Ukraine can deploy effective range capacity, that will mean the Russians will suffer bombardment for months.

And Russia is running low on precision stuff, which means their aircraft can either go in low to be more accurate, and therefore lose more aircraft to Western air defense systems, or they stay back and lose their accuracy.

Not great, not terrible.

Agree with all of this but would break the air war into manned and unmanned. Drones might be the single biggest factor to successful operations in this conflict so far.

Over the last 48 hours, I've seen a few videos/reports of Ukrainian EW taking down Russian drones. If Ukraine has been able to keep their DJIs up and running while knocking out Russia's ISR, the Russians are fighting blind. The Soviets and now the Russians had a notorious reputation for poor situational visibility/reconnaissance. If you can see it, you can hit and if you can't, you're fucked.

I had one of those in 1991. I think my folks bought it a Service Merchandise.

internet what GIF

https://www.reddit.com/r/ukraine is full of threads and even videos about the offensive.  Apparently the Russians got hit hard by artillery from the start.

Also appears the Ukrainians are using armor, artillery, infantry, and some airpower in an actual combined arms manner.  Imagine that!  Russians have yet to figure that out.

Bulgaria is the latest country not renewing gas contracts with Russia.

Meanwhile, in Kharkiv, Russians have clearly given up on this region.

Probably got standing orders to send X amount of shells downrange every day, or else explain why not at their court martial.
