So much for worrying about the Fulda Gap…..

I can tell you that in the early 90s, even after we saw how shitty their stuff was in the Gulf War, we were still training for the Fulda Gap. Some of it was just sheer momentum - turning the US military’s training and priorities around were not easy back then (slightly better these days) but plenty still didn’t trust them.

so, were any western military analysts knowledgeable about how truly awful Russia’s armed forces are?

I think some did, but also didn't wanna risk it.  They could get the $$$ to upgrade systems we may not have needed, so why not add to our margin of error.  Also, Military-Industrial Complex.

They maybe a paper tiger now, but lest we forget, quantity still does have a quality all its own. Until the Soviet Union fell apart, we were always training and buying hardware with the mindset that we’d be outnumbered, and the Ukrainians are having to put that idea into actual practice here in 2024.

It does seem like the Ukrainians have been slowly brining that number gap down.

We had numbers even before Ukraine. Their guys are just more expendable.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs criticized UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres for attending the BRICS summit in Russia while declining Ukraine's invitation to the Global Peace Summit in Switzerland. The statement reads, "Accepting Putin's invitation is the wrong choice, which does not contribute to peace but damages the UN's reputation."

we need to start understanding that Feb 22 was the beginning of a non-nuclear WW3.

I really dont understand why Biden doesnt say something to the effect of:

North Korea is an affront to all humanity. if 1 of their soldiers is found to be operating in Ukraine, every single one of Putin's residences in Russia will disappear that night in a simultaneous flash of light by an unknown detonation origin.

and the only way to prevent a full on WW3 is to not do idle threats but literally call Putin and while talking to him let him know that every building hes ever called home just disappeared. and if they make a single movement seen as being retaliatory in nature, a 2nd wave will eliminate every fucking base within 1,000km of the West.

Russians understand strength and power projection. thats it.

Anyone who hasn’t read the book, “One Soldier’s War,” should.  It makes the actions of the Russian army in Ukraine SO much easily understood.
The Russian army is run by, manned by, demented, depraved, soulless, Godless, heartless, heathens.  And everything is they do to Ukrainians, they do to each other as well.

Why did we wait so long to tell turkey to get on board or get fucked? Why are they so interested in maintaining trade with Russia?

I'd guess for the same reasons Hungary is: partially ideological (strongmen leaders who identify with Putin and refuse to be influenced by the democratic West) and partially economic (they can get resources and goods at bargain basement prices from Russia because no one else will buy from them and they can charge Russia high prices when selling them goods because no one else will sell to them, plus hedging with Russia gives them bargaining leverage to squeeze more in diplomatic and economic ways from the West).

Pretty sure it was Parliament (me) who proposed this.  Likely a war crime.  All in the game, yo.

Either going to piss the Russkies off.

Or they’ll start drinking radiator fluid and end up in the hospital.

Just kidding, pretty sure their livers and kidneys can handle radiator fluid at this point.

Going after the distilleries may be the turning point of this whole thing.

the US and the British thought similarly when they thought that by taking out all the German  industrial base needed product manufacturers' buildings via "precision" bombing in WW2.

turned out that what the Germans did after a factory got taken out, was to take the salvagable equipment, put it in a basement,  and instead of 200 machines all being in 1 building it was now 150 machines in 150 basements scattered around a city, and the net result was ze Germans were even more efficient at making ball bearings, gears, hydraulic punch press parts, etc.

post-war analysis showed the Germans were at peak production in the war as late as March.... reminding everyone that they fucking gave up officially on May 7.

point of my post is... never underestimate the Russians absolute need for the wodka.  and instead of large distilleries,  10,000 babushka led stills are just going to be put into production instead.

I'm sure they'll all have their technique down and not catch half the town on fire.  I appreciate/respect German engineering infinitely more than babushka distilling.

Russia transfers technology for nuclear weapons to North Korea in exchange for people and missiles. According to the head of the Defense Intelligence Service of Ukraine, Russia is helping the DPRK circumvent sanctions and "strengthen" its nuclear capabilities. Thus, Russia is transferring some technologies for low-yield tactical nuclear weapons and underwater missile launch systems. https://censor.net/en/n3516301

Production is one thing. Distributing to the front lines as another.

WaPo has an article out this afternoon about the guy who's been creating deepfakes for Putin's Brain.

Discharged from the Marines at the lowest rank possible after serving only 2 years, and let go from 2 different police forces after being implicated in IA investigations, he moved to Russia, lured by an online relationship. Since then he's created fake biolabs reports, and fake reports about Ukraine, plus a bunch of "CR" stuff.

Honestly, I'm just hoping that they start making bath tub vodka full of impurities and they start killing themselves with it.  I get the point about cottage manufacturing earlier mentioned, and it's benefit to the Germans in WW2, but these aren't the Germans.

What happened to that krokodil fad in Russia from a decade or so ago that we all chatted about on the old site?
