Talk me out of this because it has been creeping into my head for the past couple of months. Setting aside all other CR considerations:

An election that results in more of the same policies is more likely to mean Ukraine continues to lose slowly while Russia's economy and military continue to be substantially depleted. Put another way, will a Harris admin approach this differently and with much greater resolve and courage than the current admin? I haven't seen much to suggest otherwise. This increases the likelihood of a meaningful Russian breakthrough at some point, but even without that, Russia is able to take more territory and Ukraine loses more bargaining power than it already has for when the time comes to settle this.

Russia still hasn't kicked the Ukrainians out of Kursk, and Russia is now relying on thousands of North Korean troops to backfill various places along their border or in occupied areas (to free up Russian troops to go elsewhere). Russia is not in as good of a place as they may seem and Europe is pushing more and more modern hardware into Ukraine while Russia is getting 60 year-old tanks out of storage. Yes, we've said that before, but Russia is literally bringing in over 10,000 Norks, and they aren't hiding it.

And North Korea has a fairly small population of 25 million. While every man and woman of a certain age has to serve in the military, Lil Kim is a paranoid fucker and may not give up too many of his soldiers to Russia.

One other situation you didn't mention on the election front - a Harris win, if the R's retain control of a chamber, could see the R's automatically opposing anything she pushes, which could mean an end to a lot of Ukrainian aid. With that said, Texas's very own John Cornyn is publicly complaining that Biden/Harris haven't done enough to support Ukraine, and Cornyn could be the Republican Senate leader.

And who knows how they Norks fair on the open battlefield - they've literally had it drilled into their brains that they are the superior force, and they are about to find themselves getting hunted down by cheap drones.

Yes, there are a lot of NORK troops, but I don't think all are created equal. I mean, you need food and nourishment to be able to jump through fire rings. That only takes the best of the best of the best SIR.

Hopefully when Harris wins a lot of GOP won't feel like they are betraying the party by sticking with the current line against Ukraine aid.

This increases the likelihood of a meaningful Russian breakthrough at some point, but even without that, Russia is able to take more territory and Ukraine loses more bargaining power than it already has for when the time comes to settle this.

An election that results in a new admin where they are determined to end it now could result in significant and terrible concessions for Ukraine, but given the person in charge is unpredictable and highly sensitive to how he is perceived, the risk that it is seen as a "weak deal" would be an effective deterrent to giving up much to Russia and could actually end up strengthening the USA's resolve vis-à-vis the president and, therefore, Ukraine's bargaining power.  Again, this is highly dependent on capriciousness, so it's more likely to result in extremes. But, if it is appearing increasingly likely that the alternative admin would continue down the path of slow decline, then the chance of the more favorable result for Ukraine might actually lie with the counter-intuitive admin.

Milking the clock is the play. Pressure the Russian people to take Putin down which kills a big piece of the cancer in their society.  Russia will fracture into smaller countries, China will take their chunk, Japan will take their islands.  Post election with Harris campaign gives us the best shot to squash the Russia problem as it's been for 50+ years.

I believe this is the way.  At the risk of going CR, i agree wholeheartedly that if she wins, the R's wont have to kiss the ring anymore or be beholden to you know who.

️Ukraine could join Union by late 2029, EU official says.
Ukraine could join the European Union by 2029 if it completes the necessary reforms, EU Commissioner for Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi said on Oct. 29.
The European Commission has recently praised Ukraine’s progress on critical reforms, including those related to the rule of law, judicial system, and anti-corruption measures, though it emphasizes that further reforms are still required.

I don't know man... McDonald's up here is starting at 20 bucks an hour. Not sure who is going to build drones for 25 cents a day like the Chinese are willing to.

I wonder if this includes the Suwalki Gap

Poland has started construction of the Eastern Shield on the border with Belarus and Russia, – Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

The Eastern Shield involves the construction of fortifications, barriers and military facilities on NATO's eastern borders.

The shield will be 700 kilometers long, will cost nearly $2.5 billion, and is scheduled to be completed by 2028.

"The government intends to create a comprehensive defense infrastructure on NATO's eastern flank to counter threats from Belarus and Russia," Donald Tusk's office said.

Yeah it took us the better part of the last 30 years to move so much of that critical manufacturing overseas.  It's going to take a similarly long time to move it back, or at least out of enemy territory.

I think the time to do that might have been when DJI was eating Skydio’s market share? I mean hell, when I bought a cheap DJI several years ago, I assumed it was an American product because it was so good and well advertised. When I realized it was Chinese and looked for an American option, skydio’s drone was already wait listed. And getting bad reviews compared to the Chinese subsidized DJI equivalent. Eventually skydio just cancelled the wait list and stopped selling a consumer drone at all.

its unsettling how far we seem to be from true mass production of cost effective drones (and counter measures).

Is this for real? I only doubt because it's just fits too perfectly with all of our expectations

The first video with a North Korean soldier who survived an attack by the armed forces on enemy positions has reached us - he says: "There were 40 North Koreans, they all died, I was left alone"

The surviving soldier complains about putin and calls on his compatriots to come to their senses and stay at home.

According to him, the russians promised that the soldiers of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea would build fortifications, but they forced them into battle in Kurshchyna.

This seems like a made for propaganda video for sure.  Who is taking the video?  One assumes it comes from the Ukrainian side because certainly it wouldn't have come from the Russian side.  Yet he talks about Russian commanders berating him after the assault, which presumes he wound up back in Russian hands?  Lots of questions here.

Is this supposed to be a good point or something?

Armchair military expert analysis. Like the majority of us but with more hubris. After all, I know a little about Ancient Greek history so that means I am qualified to talk about aircraft maneuvers in dogfights post Vietnam. What do you mean the Phantom is retired? It’s is basically the same as the F22!

It’s a financial and technological decision for NK. Their fat fucking idiot leader gets to pocket all the sign on and monthly money Russia pays these NK soldier slaves. They also get a spy satellite and a submarine if I recall.

Yeah, it is an easy decision for a dictator. They don't give a shit about their people unless the people give them money or power. If the people cost money or jeopardize power, then they are a nuisance at best.

Another couple years of sanctions and brain drain and they won’t have anything but T-64s to attack with anyway.  I think most of the Polish military dreams of Russia launching an ICBM at them.

it does hit me that the Russian response to this could produce the need for Russia to beef up its own territorial defenses.  I mean, this is a NATO country defensive line. Granted, this is not the same financial drain as the Soviet Union faced at the end of the Cold War when they tried to keep up with us, but Russia is now a broke ass country, with Putin knee-capping the economy for decades in the future.  Which may mean that simply forcing them to increase spending on conventional weapons and border defenses - AFTER the SMO ends - will further bankrupt their asses in a serious way.

Ruskies are using T-34s at some training bases apparently.  T-34s.

Well, mass production of almost anything. We don't make things, relatively speaking. It's an existential problem over the long term regarding our security, both militarily and economic. We don't even have the supply chain infrastructure to do so in many instances.

Damn, I severely underestimated the Russian manufacturing capacity. If they can build a wooden chair to support that Seagal fatass then they could easily refurbish some T-34s into withstanding direct HIMARS hits.

Jokes on you.   The chair is from IKEA.

We have our bean counters to thank for that - persuading the corporate leadership to offshore most of our manufacturing, starting in the 1970s on a large scale.

Only partly true - also tax laws, wage rates, unions (anti-robotics)... Manufacturing and R&D isn't very profitable but marketing and sales are. Lots of reasons behind the move.
