Rubio for Secretary of State. At least some hope there as it relates to Ukraine. It was looking real grim the last few days. If you recall, he was the senator on from the Intel committee who was publicly calling Putin's moves before he made them. Better than Ric Grenell, who supported the autonomous zone idea.

Major grain of salt here, but Cleveland is pretty solid with reading the tea leaves..

Quote
Trump actions since his election reveal is plan for Ukraine is not to feed it to Russia, but to help negotiate a peace through strength: 1) He hasn't spoken w/ Putin yet, but has w/ Zelensky; 2) Waltz for NSA & Rubio SOS provide solid military chops; 3) Chatter (which obviously starts somewhere!) suggests Ukraine hamstrung by limits Biden imposed--and that is leverage Trump has.

So the bargaining chip would be in essence telling Russia that the US is letting Ukraine fight the war with no restrictions or negotiate in good faith...

Not sure what to make of the Washington Post report on Trump already talking to Putin and telling him not to escalate. Contradicts her reporting here.

I dont think that this is a huge initial threat to Russia that would lead to an instant set of terms. If I was Russia I would be playing the the idea of lets see how bad it could be if Ukraine really goes full weapons hot. The problem right now is there is no telling what that would really mean. Does the Ukraine have enough stockpiles to go full bore on the eastern front while also putting extreme pressure on Crimea. Way too much unknown to start trying to think of scenarios yet.

The big question would be what has the Biden administration been keeping them from doing? If they scuttled a proposed amphibious landing, that would be a major game changer (either successful or a failure). I would really have to think about what can the Ukraine do now, 18 moths too late from when they really need to. That is what is going to matter in the negotiations.

Trump Jr is going around bragging that Ukraine is going to be cut off from our aid, so who do you think has the inside track?

As for Rubio, etc., they will all be gone within 6 months of taking their oaths.

It's a funny thing - you would have thought that invading and holding Mother Russia's territory for months would be a huge red line that was crossed, but nope, so how bad can things get?.  It just meant that Russia had to beg North Korea for troops to help out, which plays into the theory that they are stretched extremely thin in most areas outside of their meat grinder in the Donbas.

Ukraine has yet to put its homegrown heavy stuff into service, and some have speculated that they are saving it for a future situation where they may decide to lay waste to Moscow and St. Petersburg or some other scenario.

Starting points.

Russia. Keep all land siezed and get Kursk back.

Ukraine. Give back Kursk, get either Crimea or Donbas.

Russia will want Kursk back. Would be great to see the bridge go down. Both sides are playing for the tie. It is like a shitty soccer game except quite sad and maddening.

And maybe that is the real threat to Putin. If the restriction from the Biden Admin was no major attacks on major Russian population centers, and they have followed along with that mostly, then that is a major pivot point in all of this. With how limited the Russian Air Defense is, a massive set of home grown Ukrainian ballistic missiles all going to Moscow would make things real interesting in the land of public perception for Putin.

Without knowing what those red lines are there is no way to know. That being said, that information asymmetry is a killer bargaining chip, if you can actually convince Russia that the Ukraine has had the means, but it was Biden keeping it from happening. Maybe we will see a few home grown missile launches as a proof of concept towards the Kerch bridge as the days slowly tick off to Jan.

The Russian government plans to lay off at least 400,000.

Moscow, Russia — The Russian government is preparing for one of the most significant reductions in its civil service workforce to date. By July 1, 2025, the government will see a 10% decrease in staff, according to information obtained by Kommersant. While the 10% figure is cited as a target, the actual cuts could be even larger. In total, more than 400,000 jobs are expected to be affected, amounting to over 0.5% of the nation's workforce.

The bottom line: the money has run out.

Really a smartly tailored proposal. I could see it appealing to Trump

Ukraine ready to share resources & replace some US troops in Europe post-war — part of a strategy to gain Trump's support, per FT. During a meeting with Zelensky in September, two special proposals were presented to President-elect Trump. One plan involves deploying Ukrainian troops in Europe after the war, easing the US military presence, and sharing resources with Western allies.

What armored vehicle carries 30 troops? Are they up armoring trucks?

Maybe BMPs with full loads inside and a bunch on top, but that wouldn't be more than 15 or so, I would imagine.  Uparmored trucks may be right, but that would still be a damn big truck.

"The Russian armed forces have been conducting a large-scale counter-offensive operation in the Kursk region for the third day, trying to push out Ukrainian troops, but this offensive has so far turned into a disaster, Bild journalist Julian Röpke reports. According to him, the Russian Armed Forces have suffered serious losses of men and equipment, and have only managed to recapture two settlements - Pogrebki and Darino.

From November 15, fighters will be able to transfer transparently and easily between military units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, — Zelenskyi.

The process takes place through the "Army+" application. In case of refusal, clear reasons must be indicated, in the case of approval - a clear decision.

The moment of the explosion (at 0:39) -which looks like controlled detonation- at the Ternivka dam near Kurakhove. After the explosion, water from the reservoir started filling the Vovcha river towards the villages of Bahatyr, Andriivka and Oleksiivka. Some of the packs follow humanitarian stuff, some follow high-level stuff, some are focused on small battles, etc.

Russian servicemen are filming the aftermath of the "meat assault" and are surprised why no one is collecting the corpses. At the same time, they obediently go to where exactly the same fate awaits them. But in the end, they are already advising their friends not to go to war.
