Putin plans to invade the Baltics.

He will be given a green light to do so by the new administration.  After all, they are really just former soviet republics, Russia is just taking back what was theirs.

Mark it down, it's pretty close to a lock at this point.

I think the EU steps up since we will not be doing so. They are going to have to take care of their own security concerns for at least the next four years. England might even step in because, well, it’ll all be on the table with us withdrawing military support soon. I would not at all be shocked to see the EU send troops to Ukraine, especially Poland and other nations that used to be part of the old Iron Curtain. Finland sure as heck would join that group. Maybe we can get one Finn to go real life SISU on the Soviet goons.

I hate the way the US has handled Ukraine the whole way through, for the most part. A lot of empty promises and inferences of support. A lot of half assedness to prevent escalation. But always my biggest thought is however maddening the approach has been, the alternative would have been worse. And now the alternative is here.

Bingo.

I feel like there was a golden opportunity to throw off a terrible yoke on Ukrainian society/culture that's loomed over them for hundreds of years, and now it feels like the window is closing. For me it's like watching Sauron win.

Putin can, at most, hold on to what he has now, with a few more gains to consolidate Donestsk and Luhansk.

And I'm not even sure he can fully hold Crimea if Ukraine drops The Bridge.  Ukraine has been hitting their ferry ships.  They've had to move ships out of Sevastapol as it is.

Brisket is not far fetched on this one. But it is actually a bit worse. A few times Putin has said he wants to rebuild the Russian Empire. Since he never said what is the high water mark, then lets think. What did Russia control at some time?

The Russian empire includes a lot more land than current russia. Parts of Finland, Poland, etc. Add to that all the former USSR countries. The Stans, Georgia.

That’s not what I’m talking about and not what brisket was insinuating.  He was saying Putin would get the green light from the incoming administration to attack the baltics.  That is asinine.

Right, my bad. Happy to discuss over in the CR since I think we would be getting into domestic politics and personalities.

So what’s the downside from crippling the Russian oil refineries over the next six weeks?  If it results in inflationary pressure on oil then won’t that just help US oil producers?  Trump is about to get a honeymoon in which complaints about inflation can be blamed on Biden.  And it’s clearly supportive of the Ukrainian war effort.

The downside is pretty minimal. I'm not an oil futures guy but I stayed at one of them fancy hotels recently -

Oil prices had been going down prior to the election and I assume that we were drawing down our strategic reserves. With the election over and with winter coming, I would expect oil prices to increase in the coming months. Plus, the possibility of an expansion of the war in the middle east would increase prices as well. This in turn should slow down the economy and decrease the likelihood of inflation of goods (excluding oil and gas and products made with oil and gas).

Has this Chinese shit bucket sabotage ship been apprehended?

So - according to Russian federal port records, the Chinese ship suspected of cutting the communications cables in the Baltic Sea was captained by a Russian citizen (one Stechentsev A.E.).  Interestingly Yui Peng 3 was only transferred to its current owner in China earlier this month.

The ship is carrying goods/oil from Ust-Luga in Russia, to Port Said in Egypt. Same captain also comandeered URSUS ARCTOS also carrying goods from Ust-Luga to Egypt. Mapped using @SensusQ.

Full name should be Stechentsev, Alexander Evgenievich (Стеченцев Александр Евгеньевич). A person of the same name was found in Russian court records disputing missed pay from the company OOO "Albatros". That company provides services in the port of Ust-Luga. Our guy might have been a pilot for the intial part out of port or the full journey.

To sum it up here are the "coincidences" of the last 2 days:
- 2 underwater cables were cut (Finland/Germany and Lithuania/Sweden)
- 2 nuclear reactors malfunctioned in Finland and were shot down, one on Sunday, the other on Monday
- Norway's Massive Johan Sverdrup Oilfield Shut by Power Outage
- Support cable of the Louhunsalmi suspension bridge broke in Finland, leaving 2 Islands almost cutt-off.

They are shooting down nuclear reactors over Finland?  Isn’t that an Article 5?

I think he meant "shut down"

After looking into it more, the guy is reaching a bit on the nuclear power plant issues- there's no known connection to Russia that I've seen reported:
