I just don’t understand how Russia can take this many losses and still be in the field.

I guess with the post up thread about Ukraine’s losses it kinda makes sense.

The Russian people have been beaten into submission since the...Monguls?  A very long time ago.  They have resigned to their fate they're gonna die young, and die brutally.  It's in their DNA.  Perhaps literally.  Pervasive fetal alcohol syndrome, across hundreds of years, is a heck of a selection event.  It has made them tougher and dumber.  Two good things to be if you're a Russian.

What is Russia at now? We had 1.5M casualties during the Civil War with between 750K and 850K killed.

I think Russia has more battle deaths and injuries if you remove all of the civil war deaths due to rampant diseases like dysentery, measles, typhoid and malaria and such.

More civil war soldiers died from disease than from combat related events.   I wasn’t using total deaths as a comparison - because that is kind of apples and oranges.

From the State Department.

United States Announces Significant New Military Assistance for Ukraine

Press Statement

December 2, 2024

As part of the surge in security assistance that President Biden announced on September 26, the United States is providing another significant package of urgently needed weapons and equipment to our Ukrainian partners as they defend against Russia’s ongoing attacks. This additional assistance, provided under previously exercised Presidential Drawdown Authority from Department of Defense stocks, is valued at $725 million. It includes Stinger missiles; Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems (c-UAS) munitions; ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS); 155mm and 105mm artillery ammunition; Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS); Non-persistent antipersonnel landmines; Javelin and AT-4 anti-armor systems; Tube-launched, Optically guided, Wire-tracked (TOW) missiles; small arms and ammunition; demolitions equipment and munitions; equipment to protect critical national infrastructure; and spare parts, ancillary equipment, services, training, and transportation.

The United States and more than 50 nations stand united to ensure Ukraine has the capabilities it needs to defend itself against Russian aggression.

️The Main Directorate of Intelligence of Ukraine stated that the losses of the Russian army during the Syrian opposition's offensive are "significant." Several hundred Russian soldiers are reported missing.

It'll be interesting to see how many were lost - those bases were surrounded/cut off, and all we know is that a bunch were fleeing to the coast.

Olaf Scholz traveled to Kyiv today to meet with Zelensky for photo ops.

He announced a new package of military aid valued at EUR 650 million but it later turned out that it was actually the same old package announced in October.

Scholz is campaigning as the “Peace Chancellor” and is unlikely to send Ukraine any new substantial military aid packages before the snap elections expected in 3 months

^I highly recommend you hit play
