Русский корабль - иди нахуй

I'm in no way defending nor pulling for Russia here but I will point out a lot of those dead Russian soldiers were just every day Joes or Ivans if you prefer. I'm happy for the Ukrainian people for prevailing, and the dead were fighting on the side of a meglomeniacal tyrant. Still, it's wasted lives that didn't have to be and I'll never be happy about that reality. Nearly 1 million fucking humans, some of which were definitely bad guys that needed to die, but mostly fuck Putin. It's sad all the way around.

100% agree.

McALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Border Patrol arrested a former Russian mercenary on Saturday, when he illegally crossed the Rio Grande near Roma.

Timur Praliev waded across the Rio Grande carrying two passports and $4,000.

“The defendant was also in possession of a drone in his backpack when he crossed into the United States,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Amanda McColgan said on Tuesday morning, when Praliev appeared before a judge at the federal courthouse in McAllen. “And he admitted, when interviewed, to being a member of the Wagner Group.”

Um, time served. 10K fine.

And his defense lawyer said this.

“They’re a defense contracting group,” Bryan said, referencing the Wagner Group. “I understand the U.S. may have issues with them, but they’re no different than Blackwater.”

Sweeping Sanctions on Russia’s Energy Sector

Press Statement

January 10, 2025

The United States is imposing sanctions today on more than 200 entities and individuals involved in Russia’s energy sector and identifying more than 180 vessels as blocked property. This wide-ranging, robust action will further constrain revenues from Russia’ energy resources and degrades Putin’s ability to fund his illegal war against Ukraine.

Of these targets, the Department of State is sanctioning nearly 80 entities and individuals, including those engaged in the active production and export of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia. Others include those attempting to expand Russia’s oil production capacity; those providing support to the U.S.-sanctioned Arctic LNG 2 project; those involved in Russia’s metals and mining sector; and senior officials of State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom.

The Department of the Treasury is concurrently sanctioning more than 150 entities and individuals, including major Russian oil producers Gazprom Neft and Surgutneftegas, Russian insurance companies, and shadow fleet vessels. Treasury is also identifying the energy sector of the Russian Federation, which restricts further Putin’s ability to generate revenue and fund Russia’s malign conduct. Treasury also issued a new determination prohibiting the provision of certain services to persons in the Russian Federation, thereby cutting off Russia’s access to U.S. services related to the extraction and production of crude oil and other petroleum products.

The United Kingdom joins us today in targeting the Russian energy sector as we continue to use all available tools together with G7 and other likeminded partners to curb Russia’s ability to fund its illegal war against Ukraine. We stand in solidarity with Ukrainians in defending their homeland from Russia’s aggression.

well duh, had to make sure our allies/friends/donors had time to divest and find other sources. Oil does not grow on trees. I mean, how would the world survive without all those corrupt dollars going into Dubai to pay for influencers from Belarus?

Just need him to convince the new POTUS

Our soldiers have captured North Korean military personnel in the Kursk region. Two soldiers, though wounded, survived and were transported to Kyiv, where they are now communicating with the Security Service of Ukraine.

This was not an easy task: Russian forces and other North Korean military personnel usually execute their wounded to erase any evidence of North Korea’s involvement in the war against Ukraine.

I am grateful to the soldiers of Tactical Group No. 84 of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as our paratroopers, who captured these two individuals.

As with all prisoners of war, these two North Korean soldiers are receiving the necessary medical assistance.

I have instructed the Security Service of Ukraine to grant journalists access to these prisoners. The world needs to know the truth about what is happening.

N.K. soldier captured by Ukraine says he thought was going to training, not war: Kyiv

https://m-en.yna.co.kr/view/AEN20250112000600315?input=feed_smartnews

Spoiler

SEOUL, Jan. 12 (Yonhap) -- One of the two North Korean soldiers captured by Ukraine has claimed during questioning that he thought he was going for training, not to the war against Ukraine, Kyiv's security service has said.

On Saturday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine has captured two wounded North Korean soldiers in Russia's western Kursk region and that investigators were questioning them.

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) said it has questioned the two soldiers through Korean interpreters in cooperation with South Korea's National Intelligence Service as they do not speak Ukrainian, Russian or English.

It said that one of the soldiers had a Russian military identification card in the name of another person registered in Russia. The soldier said he was given the document last autumn when he said some North Korean units took part in a one-week training event with Russian forces.

"It is noteworthy that the prisoner ... emphasizes that he was allegedly going for training, not to fight a war against Ukraine," the SBU said in a release.

ing in the North Korean military since 2021. The other was born in 1999 and has been serving since 2016 as a scout sniper, the SBU said, citing preliminary information.

The SBU also released video footage appearing to show the two captured men -- both of them in bandages from apparent wounds.

"Immediately after being captured, the foreigners were provided with all the necessary medical care," it said. "They are being held in appropriate conditions that meet the requirements of international law."

North Korea is estimated to have sent some 11,000 troops to support Russia in its war against Ukraine, according to South Korean officials.

A bit later. All those flights are diverting to other points. Like Moscow. That is a lot of wasted flight hours and fuel.

Russian milblogger Vault 8 says that Ukrainians are effectively leveraging drones, artillery, and advanced tactics to neutralise Russian armored vehicles, forcing Russian tanks to operate only from covered positions while enabling their own tanks to engage more freely, even with direct fire. Meanwhile, Russian capabilities, particularly in drones and artillery, are hindered by shortages and inefficiencies, limiting the ability to counter these advancements effectively.

That's really impressive

Up to half, maybe more depending on sources, died there.  More died in another assault elsewhere.  I would be surprised if 10% were still functional.

What a stupid fucking waste.  Every time I see this I think of the stats we don't see - Ukrainian men/women/children who were just trying to live their lives.  Good god, y'all.

War's always been good for killing millions of Russians per conflict, even in victory.  I'm okay w/ that.
