The existential question for us and the world has long-since passed "how can anyone still support him?"

The only question that matters now is "how do we stop him?"

I'm dead serious, we are careening towards the kind of hell and destruction that people can't imagine.  Every day with him in power and destabilizing the entire global order makes the prospects of total war, including a nuclear exchange, go up, up, up.

We're entering "does the species survive this?" territory.

Well, what do suggest we do besides shitpost?

We should have a good idea about how this is all going to go by early next week. Will Europe stand up or lie down like the US?

They don’t have the luxury of a choice.  Plus, we created a power vacuum yesterday. Nature abhors a vacuum, so somebody will step in and fill it.  Maybe/probably France and the UK. Poland may toss their hat in the ring.

And from here on out, they may want to drive everything through the EU rather than NATO rather than risk plans being leaked to Russia.

They have a very large military industrial complex. They’ve been slowly ramping up, but it’s been happening, and the South Korean stuff in Poland should take off this year.

Leaving billions of dollars of weapons in Afghanistan and having the Taliban literally walking to the capital unchecked didn’t move the needle for you?

Do you have any analysis to support how yesterday’s activities in the Oval Office were good for America’s standing in the world order or are you just shitposting?

I’ve never supported him in my life. I hate the man.

Ok well if I misinterpreted that then I apologize.

But my remaining points stand. The post-WWII world order that tfg appears dead set on dismantling has been great for America, and tfg is not capable and never has been, of doing anything constructive on this or any other front. He is a toxic agent of chaos and destruction. He can produce nothing but the same.

According to an opinion piece I read they have solid naval forces, ground troops and air forces, what they lack is intelligence capabilities (satellites etc), and sophisticated weaponry to take out air defenses. And the UK and French are nuclear so there’s that too.

if Europe puts troops on the ground in numbers  and offers guarantees from a position of European solidarity I suspect Ukraine will still have a chance.

Trump will undoubtedly use tariffs and whatever else against Europe to punish them but I think all that will do besides deepen a recession is make Europe distance from the US even more. Honestly that’s probably a good thing.

Contrarian view:

Trump did two things of note this past week, wrt Ukraine:

1. He had America vote against a UN resolution (correctly) charging Russia with starting the war. (Note- Russian ally China, also offering to broker a peace, abstained, instead of voting against. Wonder why?).
2. In the Oval Office televised discussion before the breakdown, he affirmed that U.S. weapon shipments, approved last year, would continue.

Which of these actions is most significant, most telling?

Zelensky wants guarantees of security. Trump has proposed a minerals deal for ores that are underneath the current battle lines, where commerce only happens in the advantage of US and Ukraine, if they are not under Russian control.

I get that Zelensky wants his whole country back. He should. The truth is- no one has ever offered a plan or resources to accomplish that.

Zelensky is not Churchill; he is Thieu, and he is balking at a deal that Thieu would have given his left nut for. He better hope that Budanov doesn’t start looking at him like Diem.

Maybe Europe will offer a better deal. Maybe they will offer munitions and troops.

U.S. brokered deal was never going to recover any land currently occupied by Russia. 40% is there.

Yeah, about tariffs and the next six weeks:

Quote

President Trump on Thursday said on social media that 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico, which had been delayed for a month while the sides negotiated, will now roll out next week as scheduled. He also this week announced an additional 10% tariff on imports from China, on top of those already in place, set to kick in next week, while 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum imports are lined up for March 12. Sweeping reciprocal tariffs and levies on automobile imports may be deployed as soon as early April, while Mr. Trump has threatened to hit imports from the European Union with 25% duties.

Me thinks that those tariffs will not last long, and talking about trying to hurt Europe for supporting Ukraine, well Europe is our biggest trading partner. We need their markets.  We rely on imports from Canada and Mexico, and we also export a lot to both.  It is a fucked up situation we find ourselves in economically, no doubt, but we can’t hammer Europe like that, and I suspect we won’t last long just with Canada and Mexico.

And we run the real risk of billions of Euros and pounds being diverted from American defense companies to European companies.

I said earlier that nature abhors a vacuum, and I think we and Europe are going our own ways and they will fill that vacuum, at least over Ukraine. Maybe even what Immamac said about about Europe not giving a fuck what we do - we need their markets arguably more than they need ours (especially if we fuck round with Mexico and Canada).  And if you’re a European, why wouldn’t you decide now is a good time to go your own way? You don’t get many chances to usurp the sole superpower on the global stage, while helping to ensure that the number two military in Russia is wrecked.

Fuck you.  How the fuck is it correct to not blame Russian for its invasion? There was no deal. Nothing was on the table but submission to Russia via Trump.

Reading comprehension. I said it was correct to blame Russia. I contrasted that with Russia’s ally, China, abstaining. Both votes are bogus, and maneuvers to try to be the broker of peace talks.

This is what you wrote:

"He had America vote against a UN resolution (correctly) charging Russia with starting the war."

You said American voted correctly against the resolution. You then followed it up with drivel suggesting that Zelensky should have been grateful for the great deal Trump was offering.  Either you have no idea what you wrote or you are a disingenuous twat.

You said American voted correctly against the resolution.

Notice your reply and his post put 'correctly' in different places.

Your 'correctly' referred to the vote. His (correctly) refers to the charge.

The rest was ramble, so I don't know what the point was.

I read it as a paused aside as if the parentheses were commas. If the intent were to communicate that resolution itself was correct, then the use of the parathenetical was odd and unnecessary. But I do see what you're saying.

English is now the official language of the United States, so you guys had better brush up on your grammar, spelling, and composition skills. In not doing so, you disrespect our glorious national tongue and risk being reported and deported.

In other news, Mike Johnson said this morning that Zelenskyy should step down if he doesn't bow to the threats and extortion coming from the American regime. At the same time, France and the UK announced they're working hand-in-hand with their ally, Ukraine, on crafting a ceasefire proposal.

Mike Johnson’s son monitors Mike Johnson’s porn intake. Mike Johnson’s opinion is invalid.
