It’s looking like Russia may have gone all in on fiber optic drones. If they’re producing these instead of RF controlled drones, it could genuinely shift the war. The only solution will be radar guided guns. These exist (Germany has given several to Ukraine I think)… but we need a fuck load of them or an extremely clever alternative countermeasure

This is actually extremely ominous but you can (Anyone can) order one of these from temu or ali express for like $2k https://www.wired.com/story/drone-accessories-weapons-of-war/

also https://archive.is/WXyqy

“The things that work at taking them down are machine guns, lasers, and massive jammers" Another approach under study would "involve targeting drones at the protocol and firmware level to commandeer them and cause them to land."

Ukraine is working on an untethered ai controlled drone.

Shift the war? The range limit on fiber optic drones would prevent that. Tactically, they are useful. But the limited range ensures the pilots are also targetable.

This may not be the place for this, but I know that there are a bunch of people here with connections to Ukraine and activities over there. Any help or guidance from here would be appreciated since I think it'd just get washed on the "Can Uou Help Me with This?" board.

For background, I've wanted to go volunteer over there for awhile. I had an opportunity to drive refugees when this started, but my (then) wife nixed it because we had a 2 year old and a 3 year old, and I accepted to keep the peace. Now, the kids are older and I'd have coverage to go for about a week and a half between arranging my work schedule, my non-custodial time with my kids, and extra coverage from Grandma (my mom) and my ex. For background, while I am a veteran (Army), I have committed not to do anything combat or combat-adjacent in return for getting the babysitting coverage. I'm thinking my best bet is helping rebuild and clear rubble, but am all ears.

I can afford my own transportation, lodging, food, etc.

In any case, any guidance or tips anyone has here would be greatly appreciated. I've booked flights from April 29 - May 8 as placeholder dates, but can still change those pretty easliy.

Check out MOAS. US led, but not US funded. They could use drivers.

Ruzzia's oil transmission station

I hate it when Russian air defense works perfectly and shoots down every Ukrainian drone…as always, but then the debris from the perfect air defense causes so many issues.

Q: "How much did that hurt?"
A: "Not enough."

I have no idea about the accuracy of the comment, but one poster said that all of the replacement parts of the transshipment stations are German made - and unless Russia miraculously has some unknown backlog of German replacement parts, that shipping facility will be down for a long, long time.

Meanwhile, in Kursk, things are going well…

Edit: at 8000 wounded a week, we can rest assured that orc bodies are still being sent from recruiting stations directly to the front for meat grinding.

Those poor people at the Lada factory and casket plant trying to keep up…

️Four Russian helicopters destroyed.
Special Operations Forces, in coordination with the Main Intelligence Directorate, Missile Forces, and Artillery, destroyed two enemy Ka-52 helicopters and two Mi-8 helicopters in Russia's Belgorod region.
All helicopters were destroyed by missile strikes deep behind enemy lines, where the Russians had established a forward staging area—a concealed position for rapid aircraft deployment or surprise attacks on Ukraine’s Defense Forces.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed 2 bridges in the Belgorod region of Russia to cut off the logistics of Russian forces.

I’m more worried about all of the Intel from our allies that they will no longer give us because they know dip shit will give it to Putin.   That definitely makes America weaker and more vulnerable to her foes.

I however, knew two hours before the first bombs exploded that the attack might be coming. The reason I knew this is that Pete Hegseth, the secretary of defense, had texted me the war plan at 11:44 a.m

Well, this will make them far more likely to share classified stuff with us.

Utter buffoonery.

This is exactly what DEI was meant to prevent - someone getting a job solely based on how they look and parroting the party line. I wonder what else he's been texting to people not as trustworthy as a reporter?
