This all boils down to
Don’t get high of your own supply

the Russian military thought they were   Great and on par with USA/Nato. Beating Chechen’s and Syria was their chest pumping moment. The general population also thought they were da shit. Now Ukraine with USA weapons is giving them a very hard time and they don’t know how to cope, they are short circuiting.
Prongles guy comes in and states it’s all the military leadership fault we suck and I can change that. The general dumbass population also buying it so they are welcoming them.
They think change of leadership will change something but it won’t

I mean we seen to have thought that too. Or at least significantly overestimated them.

What if Putin offers to fire Shoigu, give his job to Prigozhin, and let him run the invasion of Ukraine?

Prigozhin said the invasion was unjust and the war must be stopped…so he turns around and heads back to fight the unjust war?

The next 72 hours are going to be insane.

One thing I did learn throughout this whole whatever the fuck just happened/is happening is that Christo Grozev has been right on the money. He asserted months ago that Wagner was planning a “coup” or whatever the fuck just happened. So it’s cool that him and a couple of others like Aric Toler are least great sources (albeit removed somewhat) of information. I mean it’s hard to really know with any certainty what’s happening in Russia and with its leadership but Christo has at least been vindicated for his assertion about a planned Wagner coup.

That's untenable for both parties...  Also how would Prigozhin talk his troops to quietly head back to die in Ukraine instead of being part of the ruling entity in Russia?

How would Putin be comfortable giving Prigozhin MORE troops, equipment, and power.   Then explain it away to the russian public and oligarchy?

There's no unwringing this bell, unless it was all a ploy to get Ukraine to jump (I don't think that's what's happening here - Spoiler alert, I don't know shit)

Trying to get Ukraine offsides doesn’t make sense either. You don’t pants Putin like this and just stop.

Julius Caesar crossed the Rubicon and gave his enemies in the Senate time to flee so he could obtain power without spilling Roman citizen blood, which would turn the populace against him and maintain popular support. May be a page out of that playbook.

So they’re calling a coup a “non-working day.”  Lulz.

It’s a work from home day, Boomer!
Why do people assume that progu is the head guy and not just the sword of the head guy?

Because people are simple.
Mr Pringles has somebody working with him (or he's working for someone).  everything is going too smoothly. He has all the weapons and people he needs to ride up the highway and force Putin to evacuate. He didn't just put that together with a call to a few squad leaders.

Bingo.

That said….I don’t get the “turn around and de-escalate” play. Can’t trust either side to stick with any “deal.” As said above, you can’t unring that bell.

Wow, I hadn't thought about Timothy Dalton in a long time.  He was fantastic as Snape in the Harry Potter movies.

The damage is already done here. Putin is finished. There are 2 scenarios:

1) A lone group of 25K troops marched unopposed through Russian territory, taking over a military hub and headed towards the seat of power with almost zero resistance.

2) There was a coordinated coup attempt that involved Wagner and other power brokers that got cold feet.

In either scenario, the genie isn’t going back in the bottle here.

This is going to get really ugly.

So, regardless what happens now, can we all finally agree that fighting to hold Bakhmut is the straw that broke the camels back? The UKA holding the line and turning it into a meat grinder in the end led to this…

Bakhmut has paid off so many times.

Yeah can’t see this as a logical move unless Putin is out. Doesn’t mean Putin is out yet but one has to leave the building, probably in a body bag.

Moscow wasn’t Prigozhin’s target today. He sent, what, 8 vehicles? No. He whipped up all this attention and then stated that preventing needless Russian deaths was more important. That’s the opposite of current RU military leadership. Next, he heads back to the southern RU army command at Rostov.

Prigozhin’s target was ownership of RU forces in Ukraine. Those guys in the trenches will welcome anyone that gives them hope of survival.

He just grew his army by x-fold.

Now that’s a force that could take Moscow in the near future.

Rather have Putin than Pringles in charge. Lesser of two evils. And it’s in the world’s best interests to have stability at the top of a 150M person insane asylum with nukes.

My God.  Putin posts here.  Because, of course.

So why doesn’t Biden get on the phone and cut a deal with Putin. We launch a bunch of tomahawks from the North Sea, destroy these Wagner nuts and Putin withdraws from Ukraine. Putin puts a media blackout in it and claims the Russian navy did it. Plus he can blame the Ukraine withdrawal on Pringle’s to save face. Al sorts of folks will know exactly what happened but so what? US denies it and claims it had no subs in the North Sea.

Because you never interrupt your enemy when he’s busy destroying himself.
