Yay, anti-materiel rifles!

Ruin a convoy drivers day, that's for sure....especially the fuel trucks.  Especially with incendiary rounds.

That is why I brought up unemployment in a country that already has economic issues if you are not an Oligarch.

Russia's unemployment rate edged up to a five-month high of 4.4 percent in January of 2022, from 4.3 percent in the previous month, as the number of unemployed people rose by 76 thousand from a month earlier to 3.296 million and those officially registered as unemployed declined by 62 thousand to 0.857 million.

Yep.  Seemed like it was born to do it.  And goddamn, for anything without armor.....it would do it.  Those Isuzu Troopers the Russians are sending to the front line are as good as fucked.

I have a different perspective on this.  As someone who has worked with a lot of military units including aircraft carrier deployments I think  the Mission Accomplished was really talking about that particular carrier group's mission and giving those sailers and naval aviators some closure to their part.

It was an unfortunate messaging thing that is was broadcast globally.  I don't have any behind the scenes info but guess that the sign was made by the ship/group and not requested by GWB's people.

I can totally buy that.  But even the way it was "mispublicized," it wasn't propaganda.  The invasion force did, in fact, accomplish its mission, and in pretty exemplary fashion.

Good point.  We had a couple drivers tell another driver how easy he had it even though we shitcanned him

Now think fuel trucks. There are some specialized rounds. On an email thread with Dad and some SF buddies talking about it. There is a round that penetrates and then lights up.

Will ask if I can share some of their insight. A few of the dudes are still active SF. One ran the sniper school for one of the groups.

You forgot: "We also expect the US to give us F-16s in return"

My guess is those aren't the Ford Raptor F-150 version but more the basic sedan with few features and those tiny hubcaps which only cover the lug nuts.

With apologies to Shady Ray, and as a novice speaker myself, I've heard the best description of German as the perfect language to know and utter when you're taking a painful, gassy toilet shit.

I'd bet they've got Raufoss .50BMG rounds, high-explosive incendiary/armor-piercing would do a number on anything that's not heavily armored

This might be the time to bring back the bolsheviks to redistribute the wealth from the oligarchs.

Maybe that's the reason the ruskies destroyed the cell towers in so many areas they're in, so their own soldiers can't access the Net with their smartphones while in Ukraine and realize that!

I'm trying to get this Austin band to write a special song for Russia's immoral invasion of Ukraine during SXSW.  They will be appearing at LadyBird Lake stage and Hotel Vegas later this month.  Something, something...about dropping/firing ordnance on Russian logistics/supply columns.

And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead.

Every Russian, everybody who ever thought they were on the right side of history going back to 1945...they all must die.  And we will all laugh until we are very old men.

Is there a rule (Geneva Convention)  against filming/photographing detainees? I wanted to know before posting something. Just a lot of Russian detainees walking in a line with hands up. But didn’t want to post the Tweet if that’s not allowed.

Second video, around the 6 second mark, dude walks into the frame carrying some serious hardware.  Looks like a .50 BMG or something similar judging by the size of the muzzle break.

To me when he did it, it was another sign of how terrible their thinking was regarding the occupation. But there were plenty before then, anyway. Zero thought given how the occupation would look in all the preplanning prior to the war. Plenty of ME experts  sounded an alarm about it and were rebuffed.

Of course, part of the problem is that so much of the invasion was an exercise for showing off our military prowess. Just a giant mistake all the way around in everything but the actual military confrontation against Iraq’s standing army.

This is a really good article. I wrote a paper about Putin back in 2002. I thought much the same as the author of that article. Putin was a stern hand, but Russia at that time needed a stern hand. It was a fractured country with the government lacking significant control and power. Putin appeared, to me, to be fixing those problems. And for a time, it that really appeared to be the case. Unfortunately, all his fixing was ultimately for his own benefit and not for Russian people.

I don’t know the origin of the term, but it’s someone who built their career in the secret services.

Russia's first secret police organization was the Всеросси́йская (all Russian) чрезвыча́йная (extraordinary) коми́ссия (commission). It was commonly referred to by the initials for the last two words, чк, which would be roughly pronounced as cheka.

Fuck the goddamn Saudis.

It’s just an example of how confusing things are over there.

There aren’t a lot of “good guys.” It’s either support heinous people who then kind of go along with you, or not support them and have someone in control who is antithetical to you. We’re not there with bin Salman obviously, but he’s making it very clear he’s going to run that country the way he wants to, and we can either go along or he’ll undercut us.

I mean, bin Salman isn’t much better than Putin. He openly kills anyone critical of him, inside the country and out. He runs a repressive regime which brooks no dissent. He’s invaded a neighboring country. But because of their place in the global economy - not to mention a major world religion - there’s not much that can be done about it. It’s unfortunate to say, because he’s an evil man, but it could be worse.
