The newest Russian general will be added to the Ukrainian victims list shortly, but it should probably be attributed to diabetes.

While “torture-by-pudding-pop” was a sound concept, the torture devices kept disappearing.

Many of these were fired at non-military targets.  Russian soldiers should be pissed that missiles are being used against civilian targets instead of helping them with Ukrainian troops.  But it’s Russian soldiers, many of whom weren’t smart enough to get out of military service, or just love this shit.

Dollar amount is interesting, but the real problem is not money - there’s no way they can manufacture a lot of these weapons with all of the sanctions and bans.  You don’t ask Belarus to supply ammo if your manufacturing is up to speed.

Yeah this is why the people who are constantly expressing the sentiment that "oil and gas are super- high and Russia can easily afford this war" really aren't grasping the reality of the situation.  The supply chain is fucked for everyone around the world.  But it's turbo-fucked in Russia and won't be getting any better, for years at this point.  This isn't the 80s, the Soviet command economy model is decades-dead, and they simply can't obtain a huge portion of the subcomponents they need to restock their weapons.  China can't fill in all the gaps, even if they wanted to, which is also in doubt.

And China isn’t exactly helping them out with ammo and vehicles like Russia had asked for earlier.   It would take Russia quite a while to reach the point where they can manufacture the sub components they need for their high tech stuff..

I bet we allow the F-16s.  Turkey is also starting additional operations in Syria very soon.

What a prick move. Let's fuck over other countries because we can't get our way on totally unrelated things.

They're not a particularly advanced technological country, and the brain drain is an increasingly problematic issue for them.  Smart people build technological subcomponents, and the smart people are the ones leaving Russia in droves.  Right now I don't see any way they could reproduce everything they've lost, from within.  It's just not something they're capable of.

Turkey is a dictatorship, not a democracy. Erdogan is a criminal that ordered his goons to assault American citizens on American soil.

He's a wannabe Putin with a much weaker geopolitical hand. Fuck him.

Who has been bombing the shit out of Northern Syria and our Allies, ya know, the Kurds. Anyone who supports this ass clown needs to read more.

Honesty I think this is more about Turkey’s gripes with the US than it is about Sweden or Finland.  If the US announced tomorrow it would drop support of the Kurds and ship F-16s, Turkey would probably vote in Sweden and Finland.

And this is all comes back to  Russia in Ukraine - Russia has to pull troops out of Syria to fight in Ukraine, leaves a bit of a vacuum for Turkey, but Turkey needs us to get out as well.

We won't, and never have, challenged them in Syria. Main reason. Incirlik AB.

And it is not F-16's. It is F-35's. A game changer in the region. Everyone has F-16's. Even Iraq.

Turkey is off the F-35.  They were even a major partner in developing the aircraft but Erdogan decided to buy S-400 air defense from Russia. That got them out of F-35 and they will never be back in unless/until they trash their fancy Russian air defense systems. Since then they have indeed moved on to F-16s, the shiny block 70 with the upgraded radars, as a next option.  The admin has suggested that we should make that sale.

As far as the Nordics go, you’ll note that Putin and Russia haven’t said much about them recently.  I might suggest that’s connected to Erdogan doing exactly what Putin wants on that front. Turkey does care about PKK and all the other stuff, but they are still trying to walk a tightrope.

This coming on the heels of China’s Xi demoting the pro-Russian Chinese official and acting like he wants to repair relations with the West.

I am not going to link to the trash Russia disinformation accounts, but the line is that the mall was being used to shelter AFU forces (or maybe the AFU forces were next door and the fire spread) and so really it’s the Ukrainians doing war crimes by using civilian shield.

Same old, same old. Just like the maternity hospital in Mariupol.

Wow.  And the shadow creeping up, from the cloud of dust and debris, is just ominous.

I didn't hear any sound but it looks like they were running before the strike.  Was it sirens, or did they just hear the incoming missile?

Terrifying and it makes me ragey.  More ragey, I guess.

But do they know where the Posse East is?  If they figure that one out, I'll really start to get worried.

sure seems like it would be possible to completely neutralize russia's "intelligence capabilities" by instructing google to deny service requests to maps.google.com from russian ip addresses and known vpn routes.

Mariupol had the most modern low-floor trolleybuses. The vast majority - 51 units. trolleybuses in the city were produced in 2020, and two dozen more were supplied from enterprises in 2012-2017.

Most of the trolleybus fleet was destroyed, some of the undamaged cars were taken to Donetsk by the occupiers.

SBU detained the agent of the Russian Federation who corrected missile strikes on the Yavoriv military range in the Lviv region

Counterintelligence found that the information was passed to the enemy by a former KGB officer. He sent the exact locations marked on the map to the curator via a chat on the Telegram channel.
