OHMSS is one of my absolute favorite Bond movies.  It's top 5 for me.  Lazenby is panned for being somewhat rigid, but I think the guy captured the Bond aura from the books quite well.  His fight scenes are amongst the best in the franchise history.  it's absolutely worth the watch.

This is correct.  If OHMSS was played by Connery, it would be in everyones top 5.

Blofeld kept some serious talent at his mountain top "clinic."

The one Bond movie that would never be made today is Live and Let Die.  Because it's a totally unwatchable piece of shit.

Need to remember that is was a James Bond version of a Blaxploitation movie

Holy shit this movie would never get made today

Wanted to posrep and say thanks for starting the thread. I hadn't watched any of the Bond movies in years. Started watching with Dr. No and am going through the Connery ones in order.

I'd forgotten how good the early ones were. Haven't seen any of the ones since whichever one had Roger Moore running on the crocodile heads. At that point it seemed like they had turned more into road runner cartoons than spy thrillers. Can't speak to the newer Bonds. Roger Moore was the jump the shark moment for me.

Daniel Craig will bring you home.  He's a Gritty, slightly sociopathic (he does seem to try to fight it at times) Bond.

Dude - you haven't seen Casino Royale? Clear your schedule and report back.

Lazenby was a great Bond but he followed THE original and had no chance. Moore came in and they became all about gadgets and jokes. Timothy Dalton did two, they were much grittier than the Moore Bonds but weren't well received. Watched them over the summer and they weren't awful. Goldeneye was spectacular, the rest of Brosnan's were pretty bad. The Daniel Craig versions are good, I've liked all of them except for Quantum of Solace.

I knew I'd eventually revisit this after this thread started.  Gave it some thought and I'm putting Dr. No back above FRw/L.  They're basically equals though.  I have a soft spot for You Only Live Twice.  It's plenty campy, but you basically get the whole inspiration for Austin Powers.  For all of the crap that Live and Let Die gets, I think its got its merits.  Spy Who Loved Me is where the cheese factor hit full force.  It hasn't aged as well as some people think IMO.

My rankings today are as follows:

Casino Royale (2006)
Skyfall
Dr. No
From Russia With Love
Goldfinger
On Her Majesty's Secret Service
You Only Live Twice
Thunderball
For Your Eyes Only
SPECTRE
Live and Let Die
The Spy Who Loved Me
The Man With the Golden Gun
Quantum of Solace
Golden Eye
The Living Daylights
Octopussy
Diamonds are Forever (only Connery's presence keeps this movie from being lower)
A View to a Kill
Die Another Day
The World is Not Enough
Moonraker
License to Kill

That's a fair list. I'd switch some of them here or there,  but otherwise pretty strong .

That's fair.  I copied that list from an email exchange with a friend on the subject from four years ago.  I adjusted it today.  The bottom half almost doesn't matter.  I need to sit down and watch some of them again.

Pile on LALD all you want, it's no Diamonds Are Forever. DAF is by far the sloppiest money grab of the series. The magical Mustang on 2 wheels, the lame gay hit men, props falling apart... it was a shitfest. At the time lil' RPM gave zero fucks because Jill St John.

All of the Dalton Bonds go to the bottom of the list, unwatchable steaming piles of crap.
