This right here.

I don’t think what he said was low and, as we found out, he was right.

IIRC he was critical of us about to cut bait with Charlie Strong, which he had plenty to say about. Meantime Saint Urban was knuckles deep in some waitress's ass on video and he didn't have much to say about that

Pretty sure he made that comment on Gameday in Austin where he is paid to talk about the teams that will be playing.

If I recall no one in the media ever brought up Urban’s foray unless it was on a non-sports channel.

I'm not sure I agree with you 100% on your police work there, Steamboat

Got to be one of the Top 10 most embarrassing college football Tweets of all time.

Other than we sucked, our AD was a clown and our recruiting was in the dumpster, everything was fine.

That is NOT what he was saying when he called Texas a cesspool.

How would you interpret it then.

He followed that up with why would anyone want to Coach at Texas right now.

Was he wrong?

Herbie was implying that we (the program, the boosters, etc) were wrong to be actively talking about firing Strong in 2016 (the fuck we were).  He felt like it was meddling.  Nevermind at that point we had already eaten two seasons of a shit sandwich (or was it a shit cake) and were in the midst of chewing and swallowing our third.  He did all this while in College Station and while he denied it he was clearly playing up to aggy.

He was wrong because he insinuated Texas was unjustly firing Charlie Strong because our Athletic Department was a cesspool, the truth is that Charlie Strong needed to be fired because he was not a good football coach. If I remember right he hinted at race as a factor also, but I might have just personally thought that’s what he meant.

He was calling us a cesspool because Charlie Strong was in hot water and he felt we were being impatient. He stopped only short of implying that it was a race thing. But the unspoken suggestion was there.

He was absolutely wrong. Charlie Strong fucking sucked on an epic scale and had no business being in charge of a program like UT.

Fortunately Charlie Strong was fired and Tom Herman was hired which immediately proved Herbstreit 1000% wrong.

Firing Strong was the right decision.

Hiring Herman was a bad decision, but it was not the same decision-makers involved. Nor does that bad decision invalidate the good decision that preceeded it.

I'm just glad we finally got it right the next time around.

And there you go

Herman sucking is irrelevant in analyzing the decision to fire Strong.

Any particular reason y'all aren't instead presenting Strong's head coaching record after leaving Texas which would actually be relevant to the wisdom of that decision?

He was race baiting, implying Strong was getting canned early because guys like McCombs did not like the color of the coach. None of which was lobbed at aTm when they got rid swag copter.

Indiana beat nobody and got pounded by Ohio State in their one chance to play a good team.

We looked like crap vs Georgia round one and got ref-balled in round 2.   Alabama lost to OU, badly.   Shit happens, they won 11 games and earned a spot.

So every program that fires its worst coach of all time and the next hire turns out to be average is a cesspool?

this.  Herbstreit is a cockmunch.  if we hire Herman after Mack we basically Late Era Mack continued.  8,9 win seasons.  not the complete colossal fuck up that those dumbasses Powers and Patterson were hiring the worst coach in the history of the University. Hiring Charlie Strong absolutely dumb beyond belief because they actually thought about it.  Hiring Herman was short sighted and over reactionary but the guy wasn't completely devoid of actual coaching acumen.  It was right to fire him, though.

I’m curious as to which other legitimate candidates were out there after we shitcanned Strong? Yeah, Herman turned out to be a bad hire. But at the time he had a good reputation as the next up-and-comer, LSU was in pursuit, and I don’t recall it feeling like we settled on him over better candidates that would’ve declined an offer.

I'm saying the search really wasn't a complete search. Herman was our guy from the jump. the success at tOSU and Houston was real but my guess is we didn't really understand Herman's "issues".  maybe "over reactionary" isn't the right word.

Yes. I mean, Washington fired Tyrone Willingham and hired Steve Sarkisian. Total cesspool move. Who could survive a hire like that?

seriously, the only reason Herman was even on our radar was because UH had the foresight to give a volleyball scholarship to Ed Olivers sister. Because of that , Ed went to UH and because of that UH started winning lots of games.....sort of like the ....but for a nail the shoe was lost, but for the shoe the horse was lost, but for the horse the rider was lost, but for the rider the battle was lost......ad nauseum..

One goddam womens volleyball scholarship caused us to wind up with Herman....
