Pretty cool move.

ATLANTA --

Tyler Perry decided to spread some holiday cheer by paying off all of the layaway items at two different Walmart stores.

Walmart confirmed to ABC News that Perry wrote checks totaling more than $430,000 between the two stores in Atlanta and Douglasville, Georgia, on Thursday.

Perry was inspired when he saw a story on Good Morning America Thursday about the owner of the New Orleans Saints paying off layaway items at a Walmart in New Orleans.

According to a post on his Instagram account, Perry meant for the act of kindness to remain anonymous, but was happy to help.

"I know it's a hard time, a lot of people are struggling, I'm just really, really grateful to be able to be in a position to do this, so God bless you, go get your stuff, Merry Christmas," Perry said.

Yeah, he gets knocked because his fortune comes from hokey comedies where he dresses up as grandma that he flexed into a media empire, but I've heard nothing but good things about his charitable works.

Good to hear that it was inspired by the Saint's owner's act. Hope this creates a chain of charitable giving this holiday season.

Perry wanted his gift to remain anonymous but someone at Walmart leaked it. Apparently he does a lot of charitable giving that goes unreported.

Kid Rock, on the other hand, copied Perry's act and made sure everyone knew about it. Good for him, but it comes across a little bit as self-promotion.

And maybe pick a different store so you don't create the perception that if you buy stuff on layaway at Walmart then maybe a celebrity will pay it off. In a weird way it could sort of become a promotion of Walmart if the practice were to "go viral," so to speak. Of course, you probably wouldn't want to do it at Williams Sonoma.
