Anyone have first hand experience with Rose.Rabbit.Lie?  Thoughts?  I was thinking it might be fun to do dinner there then catch the Absinthe-esque show "Opium" afterward.

Rose Rabbit Lie is good but pricey. Also, opium is fantastic, especially if u liked absinthe. And its literally right next door to RRL

I wasn't a fan of Rose Rabbit Lie, but I can see it being fun if you are there with other couples.  I was there with just the wife and my seat had my back to the main area.  Multiple times while trying to talk to my wife the fat lady singer would stick the mic in my face mid song.  Beauty and Essex is a better option with a similar menu in Cosmo.

I also really didn't like Opium.  I may have been jaded though as the only reason we went was because we saw Absinthe the night before and really loved it.  The stage is much smaller, so the show is more story driven then act driven.  It also wasn't near as funny in my opinion.  I should probably give it another chance though.  The pit boss in Cosmo told me some story that Cosmo just let Spiegelworld (the company that runs both shows) throw together a show to put in their small theater because they are planning on having Absinthe move there after their lease with Caesars was up.

Aria, but I was all over the strip and Fremont when I wasn't in my hotel room dosed out on edibles.

Yeah I don’t think it was Aria.  I was just there a few weeks ago and I managed to get out of there rash free.  Of course, I only played in the high roller room so I can’t really speak to the regular tables.

LVRJ:

Construction is underway on the Smith &Wollensky steakhouse in the Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian.

Nearly all remnants of the Italian restaurant Zefferino, which previously occupied the space, are gone. The team is creating a two-story steakhouse with mosaic tile and parquet floors, butcher-block tables, an onsite aging room visible to customers, and an 18-foot ceiling above the main floor’s back bar.

Its most distinctive feature, however, may end up being a “floating” private dining room that will perch about 40 people above the first-floor dining area.

The restaurant will occupy about 15,000 square feet. Customers will enter through the first floor, which will seat between 80 and 120 people. The larger upstairs area will hold about 320 additional diners.

Smith &Wollensky closed its free-standing Las Vegas Boulevard location in May of 2017 after more than 18 years in business. But the chain’s CEO, Michael Feighery, says he always planned to return.

“We never imagined ourselves as closing,” he says. “We were looking for the right opportunity and the right partner.”

For that reason, the company has kept in touch with several key employees in the hopes of bringing them back when they returned to Las Vegas. Feighery reports that a general manager who left the old location six years ago has returned, as have two bartenders who had been with the company since the old space opened.

“We’re just super-excited about coming back to town and keeping the same faces,” he says of their return.

Feighery says he hopes to have the restaurant open for business on May 1.

Yeah, I just try to keep people updated on what’s coming and going out there. I never once ate at the Vegas location of Smith & Woll, it’ll be interesting to see how it looks at the new location.

For anyone that goes during the first weekend of March Madness, buying into a game watching party is a must.  If someone is rated highly at a hotel, see if they can get you into one.  However these parties' tickets are not generally for sale.   I find the sports books to be a horrible place to watch the games unless you are walking by and catch the last minute of a game.

Be careful of the game watching parties that are in the "malls" or "shopping centers" on the casino/hotel grounds.  Those can be bad and poorly attended.

For the general comments about 4 days in Vegas being too much, I agree.  Pace yourself.  Over a long weekend there, I have to chill out in the room for an hour or two per day.   You don't have to go 100mph for 4 days straight.

Finally for someone that says they hate Vegas but haven't been in 15-16 years, you don't know the current Vegas.  Maybe you will hate it more but it's very different. Or at least I think it is.

Yeah I've been looking into it and it might not be so bad as we'll probably spend a lot of time eating and getting drunk. Hopefully the worst thing I'll have to do is watch the damn Backstreet Boys, but that was her favorite boy band growing up so it'll be enjoyable enough if she's having fun.

How is freemont street? I booked 4 nights in the 2 story Spa tower suite at Golden Nugget and from my limited research there seemed to be some good dining options nearby in Andiamo, Vic and Anthony's, Pizza Rock and Carson kitchen. I'm sure we'll spend a lot of time hopping around casinos on the strip and doing stuff like the High Roller too.

Also, has anyone seen the Michael Jackson show? Was thinking to make that and backstreet boys the two higher priced shows we see.

Taking my son to Vegas for his 21st for the USA Rugby Sevens tournament. My game of choice is craps, and he wants me to teach him. So I'm looking for $5 minimum tables at most. Cromwell? Anywhere else on the strip? Four Queen still have $5 tables?

Bally's has had $5 craps early in the morning, but expect most strip properties to be $10 at a minimum. Four Queens and all other downtown casinos to have $5 tables 24/7. At least this was the case when I was there 3 weeks ago Tuesday-Thursday. 2nd the Ellis Island diner and brewery, and get the steak dinner special with their player's card.

Not rich at all. But not poor. Can easily rent out a 2 story suite for 4 or 5 nights but won't be giving the casino thousands on gambling. Just not my thing.

Although I've wondered how viable betting against the shooter would be in craps. Not in the usual don't pass don't come way, but laying higher bets against 4s and 10s a shooter has recently thrown. So say put the table min $10 on the pass line and the come out roll is a 5. The next roll is a 10. At this point lay bigger money like say $50 to $100 on the shooter not throwing another 10 before a 7. The same could also be done with a 4.

I know the payout is lower for the 10 and 4 to keep game slanted in house favor but unless you're really unlucky and the table is really hot the shooter would probably hit the 7 pretty quickly and before hitting another 10 or 4. Especially if it's a cold table. Wonder if anyone bets like this or if it's foolish in a way I'm overlooking.

Know several guys who heavily play don’t pass and then only play odds on 4/10 and back it up with a small hardways 4/10 bet. Then you only have 1/3 and 6/4 combinations that can beat you.

$25 tables suck if you only have a 3-400 buy in budget and the table is cold. It’s especially important to scout the table in that instance or wait until you’re throwing to jump in. $15 seems to work for best for me.

There's a steakhouse in the basement of the four queens that is quite good.

Looking for recommendations for Sushi lunch and a great hamburger place for dinner for my trip in a couple of weeks.
TIA

Plenty of high end sushi on the Strip, take your pick there. I will recommend one off Strip place across from the Hard Rock called Kaizen Fusion Roll & Sushi. Really good low key place without the Strip pricing.

http://kaizen-sushi.com/1

For burgers, you have all the hot chain places like Shake Shack and In and Out etc. For sit down places, people seem to like Holsteins at Cosmo and Gordon Ramsay Burger at PH.

Palms penthouse for sale (LA Times):

Former New Mexico state Sen. Phil Maloof is hoping to hit the jackpot in Las Vegas. His high-rise penthouse, which overlooks the Strip from the 59th floor of Palms Place, is on the market for $15 million.

The mammoth price tag is still a shadow of what he sought five years ago, when he asked $38 million for the home and offered to throw in Pablo Picasso paintings and a two-year lease on a Lamborghini.

Accessed by a private elevator, the condo spans roughly 25,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor spaces, including a massive rooftop deck with a spa, 30-foot movie screen and panoramic views of the city.

Inside, three bedrooms and five bathrooms fill out 6,230 square feet of modern living spaces. There’s a living room with a 30-foot fireplace, a formal dining room, a center-island kitchen, wet bar, office, DJ booth and gym.

Walls of glass surround the master suite, which expands to a lounge and wraparound balcony.
Palms Place sits right next door to the Palms Casino Resort, which was opened in 2001 by the Maloof family. Amenities include valet, concierge services, a Turkish-style hammam and a 50,000-square-foot spa and fitness center.

Ivan Sher of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Nevada Properties holds the listing.

The Maloof family has deep ties to Las Vegas. They’re minority owners of the Vegas Golden Knights NHL team and have opened two casinos in the city: the Palms Casino Resort and Fiesta Rancho.

For sushi and Japanese in general, both Raku and Hachi are good but very popular and dinner only but open until past midnight.  Both located in the "Chinatown" area of Vegas, west of the strip.

Hamburger place?  Where are you coming from, Siberia?  You can probably find a hamburger place anywhere in your hometown that is as good as anything you'll find in Vegas.  I guess you could try Bachi Burger or Slater's, good burgers but I wouldn't go out of my way to grab one.  There's always In-n-out [ducks].

My wife and I saw the Michael Jackson show last May at The Mandalay Bay, and while entertaining, it was LOUD. Of course I am an old so maybe it wasn't really that loud.

Fremont Street on the other hand is great! I have always stayed on the strip until my last trip 3 weeks ago, when my son and I were at Main Street Station for 3 nights. Cheap food, cheap drinks, cheap gambling, and decent inexpensive rooms can't be beat! Not to mention the awesome bands and people watching at The Fremont Street Experience every evening. Also, whether you stay downtown or not, check out the Mob Museum. It takes about 2 hours and is well worth the price.

Got back from a two night trip last week. Stayed at Paris for the first time, for a “free” room I can’t complain. Craps killed me but we had a blast. Did get to eat dinner at Mr Chow that someone else was paying for....goddamn that was good. Already planning our big yearly September trip for NFL opening weekend.

Checking back in after a long 4 nights of eating and meetings.

Javier’s is solid, especially for those of us living outside of Texas

Bavette was outstanding, with notable service and atmosphere, but the food was the star to be sure. We ended up going back a few nights later...

For a quick fix, was fun to pop over to Hattie B’s and The Collective in the Cosmo. The latter had bomb ass kolaches and you know what you’re getting at the former.

We tried to branch out one night and made our way to Lotus of Siam but weren’t down with an hour wait on a Tuesday. Ended up at Robuchon instead which was fine but nothing special.
