Said it before and I'll say it again, circus circus steak house is mandatory every time in Vegas. Yeah, it makes no fucking sense.

Just checked Eater Vegas, which I trust quite a bit as far as those types of sites go (headed to Vegas next week) and the Palms has 3 of their new restaurants on the Heat Map.  That’s pretty damn impressive.

It’s definitely worth checking out. They made a decent effort to revamp the place. I haven’t been yet.

Looks like I’m gonna check out Greene St the first night so I’ll report back.  Looks kinda like a Beauty and Essex rip-off, but we loved that and it looks great.

Piero’s the second night...can’t believe I’ve never been.  Looks like my kinda place to a fucking T.

And I guess we’re doing STK the last night. Birthday of one of the people we’re going with and it was his pick.  Hope it’s still fun.

Staying at the Wynn and this will be the first trip we don’t eat a single dinner on property.  Just bored with all of their options.  Feel like I’ve been to all of them 10 times.  And Cipriani does nothing for me.  Gets very meh reviews and their menu looks like shit.

I’ve been to Piero’s a lot. I have a few friends who are execs in Vegas and this is the spot where a lot of important locals like to eat. If you encounter a friendly old dude around the bar area, that could be Fred the owner. He’s a legend and knows everyone. Tells a lot of great old school Vegas stories. The food is excellent. Definitely check out the booths in the bar area, even if you just walk by.

Cool.  I actually requested a booth in the bar.  Don’t really know why...just seemed like the kinda place to request that sort of thing.  Maybe I should have my guy at the Wynn book it?  Or do I need to PM you?

Hmm. I’m not sure. My gut is saying to just stick with your personal request. Steve Wynn used to eat there a lot and knows Fred, so I’m not sure if going thru the Wynn would be a positive or not right now. My guess is your request will be honored unless some bigtimers show up the night you are there. I love eating in those booths in the bar area.

Alright, we’ll give it a shot.  Can’t wait...sounds exactly like my kind of scene.  Now I’m kinda pissed I won’t be there on a Friday or Saturday to see Pia Zadora.

According to the Southern Nevada Health District, smoking is now illegal in all pools in Las Vegas, including pool clubs. Per NAC444.280, smoking is prohibited at public bathing facilities, including resorts and pool clubs. According to the SDHD the New pool regulations will start July 1st, and will require signs with expected/prohibited behaviors, such as no smoking allowed.

What a weird rule.  Can smoke just about anywhere inside where things are enclosed and dry and everyone anywhere around you will be negatively impacted.  But outside in open air where nobody outside of about 2 feet from you will be effected and there’s a ton of water, that’s a no-no.

Posted

Speculation about whether this new rule will be followed and enforced by the casinos. So far only a few casinos have put up new “no smoking” signs in preparation for the July 1 start date. Just something to look out for and see how this will go.

Suspect it had something to do with minors being able to access pool areas.  The current smoking law allows smoking in areas where minors are prohibited.

  Quote

Though the state of Nevada implemented the Nevada Clean Indoor Air Act in 2006, visitors will notice that this doesn't quite apply to the Strip. The law outlines where people can smoke indoors in Nevada, as opposed to where they can't, and under Nevada Revised Statute 202.2483, the list where smoking is acceptable is pretty long:

Strip clubs and brothels

Tobacco stores

Stand-alone bars and taverns that are 21 and over

Any area inside casinos where loitering of minors is prohibited, typically near gaming tables and slot machines

Some convention centers

Outside areas of restaurants

Writing myself here. It turns out that even on a fight weekend with WSOP going on, if your flight gets delayed 4 hours you won't have any trouble going through security.

How would you rank the importance of price vs. location? Prefer upscale vibe, party vibe, depressing vibe?

Not too concerned on location. I prefer the upscale hotels over the party vibe. Would be good to have a hotel with good food/bar options. We stayed at mgm signature last time we stayed near/on the strip.
I have a feeling they will want to be on the cheaper side considering how the initial planning has been going.

Park MGM (the former Monte Carlo) is newly renovated, solid location, pretty inexpensive, not a "party" vibe, and some pretty good eats in and around the hotel.

Cosmo is definitely a fun party vibe, but they also have great rooms and they have some good food on the second level.  Ate at Momofuku twice in the 3 days I was there.  Eggslut looks good for breakfast and my buddy got a milkshake from Milk that he said was really good.

Aria is my personal favorite, but similar vibe as Cosmo.  Maybe a bit more relaxed, but great rooms and very comfortable beds.  Good (but not great) food options.  Pizza by the poker room is legit.  Bellagio is getting long in the tooth.  I won't stay in a Sheldon Adelson hotel so Venetian and Palazzo are out for me.

Park MGM came up due to the price per night. Wasn’t too sure about it cause of some reviews but will need to look into it a bit more.

My initial suggestion was going to be Aria for us and they can stay at the Park since they are next to one another.

Speaking of food options, holy shit is Hash House at Rio terrible.  Only had 45 min before the daily deepstack started, so we ate there.  Just awful.  That entire hotel needs to be torn down, which is what is going to happen based on the chatter I heard at the tables over there.  People are saying that the WSOP is going from the Rio to the Linq convention space that is currently under construction and that the Rio is doomed to be imploded to make way for something else.

I do love Cosmo, but not cheap and more party vibe than Aria IMO. So many great food options at Cosmo (all also easily reachable from either Park or Aria).

What did you get? I like HHaGG pretty well. And yeah, strong likelihood this is the last WSOP at Rio. Either the Convention Center if it's ready, or if it's not ready next year, maybe one year at Caesars, then next year to the CC.

Depending on how nice they want their hotel, the Waldorf (right next to Aria) might be a good choice.  I stayed there when it was the Mandarin and it's a great hotel.  No casino in the hotel so it's much more laid back.

Thanks for suggestions. I’ll see which way they want to go. Really need to prod to see what they prefer in terms of rooms. My guess is they just want something simple and not too pricey.

Also hear good things about Vdara next to Aria, has a kitchenette, and no casino which a lot of people like, and seems not as spendy as some others that are as nice.

Yep, I always forget about Vdara but that would be a good choice, too.  And less expensive than the Waldorf, but still right there next to Aria.  Only times I've ever been in there is to walk from Aria to Bellagio.

I was just out there for a work deal last Sun-Tues. We had dinner on the patio at Yellowtail on Mon night and I thought it was fantastic. Sad that the Sun storms kept me from making it out there in time for dinner at Mastro's on Sun night.

Too late.  I ate pizza because I decided I could eat sushi anywhere, but I can't play poker at the Aria anywhere else.  Pizza over by the Aria poker room is really good, though.

I had the chicken and waffles.  Chicken had waaaaay too much breading on it and the waffles were dry and flavorless.  Buddy liked his burger ok, but agreed it was a subpar overall experience.

If you are looking for quick, the new “food court” in Cosmo was excellent. We skipped Eggslut and went to the donut/slider place every morning and it was well worth it. The wing place was also really good for a quick drop in.

We were at the Rio to play in the daily deepstack event that starts at 1 and it was 12:15.  Didn't have time to run somewhere else.  Didn't make that mistake on subsequent trips to the Rio.  We ate before we went over.

Hit up Momofuku twice - once for dinner and once for lunch.  Damn, I love that place.  Just really, really good.  I could happily live the rest of my life just eating the pork belly buns and the Sichuan beef noodles.

The Cosmo has great food options.

Walked by that area in search of Secret Pizza since most everything was closed by the time I got checked into Vdara on Sun night. Wish I'd tried one of those places because I waited a long time for Secret.

Walk up version of some well received regional favorites, it’s worth a stop. Plus you don’t have to put on khaki’s or spend 2 hours and a few hundred eating every meal. Pok Pok and District were both good. We only ate breakfast at District (3 days worth), but I assume the late night menu is just as good. Hattie B’s is local to me, so we skipped it. Lardo’s also looked good but never ended up there for lunch.
