I've actually eaten at Momofuku 3 times.  2 were great and 1 was pretty bad.  I guess that points to your #3 and their inconsistency.

Point to exactly what was condescending about what I said.

One of the consistently good meals I used to have in Vegas was a loaded hotdog & a Heineken from the little cart run by an Asian family back by the sports book in the old Barbary Coast. Originally $1, but eventually went up to $1.25 with coupon.

they had heineken during the great depression?

Mandalay is where the wife and I stay every summer mostly due to the pool.  And they keep comping us nights at Delano.   After the NFL starts up that place is going to blow up.  We are going in January and staying at Aria.  There is no way you could get me out there during an NFL weekend with the team playing a home game.  It will be insane.

I see fans from the visiting teams traveling to Vegas more than Raider fans.  Everyone visiting team fan will circle that weekend for a trip to Vegas.

again i loves me some david chang.  hell, he got rid of one of his most popular dish at momo nyc because he didn't want to be known as the brussel sprouts guy.  huge respect.

however, i did ask the waiter at the vegas place if david ever comes by the restaurant.  he told me that in the 7 months that he worked there, he had never see chang at the restaurant.  didn't qualify that to say if chang had been there when the waiter dude wasn't.

but yea, i was disappointed in momo vegas.  i really wanted to like it.  it wasn't bad, it was just meh.  i even got that crack pie because it was on chef's table with christina tosi.  it was good but i guess i expected crack like devotion after i ate it.  if crack is that good, then i don't understand how there are so many addicts.

Yup. For the first year or so I think Oakland fans might make the trip, but that will thin out fast. Hell, I might go to a game just to say I did. It will be Super Bowl weekend every home game.

My Vegas local friend says the town is being swarmed with grasshoppers. Saw a video of the people empty sidewalks that were covered with bazillions of the critters. The reporter said they will migrate on in a “few weeks”.

Guessing it was the part when you dismissed someone else’s opinion, which disagreed with yours, because you are a “professional chef” as if to say that made your opinion more valid than his.  This part...

Well that's a stupid thing to say to a professional chef

Hell that's not even condescending, especially when you consider the extremely condescending and insulting quote I was responding to you so conveniently left out:

There is a PF Chang’s right across the strip. It may be more your speed.

I basically stated my opinion on my experience that the meal was over spiced garbage, which it was, and then got insulted with that post. If you're going to come at me with that then I'll throw a little back too.

I wouldn't even worry about anything landomatic says. He's one of those douchebags who's stench of arrogance and obnoxious righteousness is only surpassed by the even more glaring insecurities he's trying to overcompensate to cover up. I'm sure we've all known dudes like that. If we have to tolerate them we do but deep down nobody likes them and it's sad irony because the reason they act like that is because they're insecure and want everyone to give them respect they never earn.

seriously, if you want to try a great restaurant off the strip, give Hobak a try.  incredible korean bbq.  if you've never had it, don't let the korean scare your.  it's meat grilled on coals.  it's a ton of meat for the price.  the pork belly and aged pork ribs are out of this world.  they give plenty of really good sides.  and the green tea ice cream sandwich is damn tasty.

Don’t be a fucking baby, making a joke about PF Chang’s being across the street and more your speed is not extremely condescending or insulting. If you’re that sensitive, you may want to find a new website and check for your balls while you are at it. I ate PF Chang’s recently because my kids wanted it just for the record and have zero issues with that.

You throwing out you’re a chef and above it is what took the replies to the next level. That was a classic my opinion means more line. Opinions are like assholes in case you haven’t heard and every restaurant has a negative review somewhere.

Too salty.

We went last night, steak was way over seasoned.  But that bread loaf, though.

Barbary was such a great casino to play craps - best location on the Strip, low mins, heads were literally 5 second away, outstanding cocktail service, fantastic show late night with the Drais crowd rolling in, etc.  And on the latter, the craps tables were situated as such that you could easily get a great view into the womens bathroom where the door was always open and there was always something going on inside.

Just a great, great place to gamble.

Heading out there on Friday with two former army rangers whose top priority is slaying ass. Staying at Cosmo and have an area at Encore Beach Club on Saturday for the chainsmokers. Not sure what to do on Friday yet - we are all 20+ trip Vegas guys, but need to figure out a strategy for Friday night. Not into nightclubs but are down for bars/lounges. Recommendations welcomed...

Stay in Cosmo for the night at go to Marquee.  I know you said your group isn't into nightclubs, but reserve a cabana outside by the pool.  Much cheaper, is more a lounge than loud dance club, and you still have all the hot chicks.

This was an "in and out" trip, so the only restaurant of note that I hit was Lotus, which was terrific.  Oh, and I did get some custard at Luv-It because it was hot as balls even after the sun went down.  I don't go to Vegas often enough to have informed opinions about other restaurants, so my suggestion would be to peruse this thread and see which names keep popping up as recs.

If you're looking for what to order at Lotus, I can help you there.

This. Never eaten there and only seen the old Tony Bourdain show appearance. I want to crush this.

My suggestion would be to order several dishes and share everything.  I'd have everyone at the table order at least one thing.  That way, if someone doesn't care for one of the dishes for some reason, there will still be at least one thing that person will probably be inclined to eat.  I don't think I've had a bad dish there, so it really comes down to your preferences, e.g., whether you like a lot of heat, whether you like or dislike certain spices, etc.

In terms of specific recs, all of the curries I've had there have been very good.  I like the panang curry, but for first timers, maybe do yellow since it's the mildest.  Didn't have the roasted duck curry this time, but it's been killer in the past.

I'm normally not a fan of squid, but we had the spicy squid salad last weekend and it was pretty damned good.  The squid was not rubbery or chewy at all.  It was a refreshing contrast to the other dishes.  I also recommend the papaya salad.

The catfish (sliced or whole) has always been tasty.  Speaking of catfish, we tried the kang renu nakorn with catfish on Saturday, and it was good but not transcendent.  It's a red curry they make without coconut milk.  It didn't have the same consistency as the other curries on the menu.

Chicken with chili and basil is always a winner.  Garlic prawns.  I'm normally not the biggest pad thai fan, but the fiancee (no pics) is, so we always order it.  Noodles were smaller than other versions I've had, but it was a winner.

It's been a long time since I ordered soup at Lotus, but they were always delish in the past and they looked damned good on adjacent tables last Saturday.  The tom yum koong, tom kha kai, and tom yum plar dook are good choices.

I'm sure other Surlyites can chime in with their recs.  Damn, I just made myself hungry writing this.

Resort fees (LVRJ):

Caesars Entertainment Corp. needs to be cautious about its use of resort fees, according to CEO Tony Rodio.

During Monday evening’s second-quarter earnings call, Rodio said the company intends to keep a close watch on the rise in resort fees across the industry. MGM Resorts International announced last week a $6 resort fee hike to $45 a night at the Aria, Vdara and Bellagio.

“Over time, at some point there’s going to be the straw that breaks the camel’s back,” Rodio said. “I don’t think we’re there yet, but I want us to be very judicious and cautious about taking those rates any further. It’s certainly a revenue stream that’s hard to walk away from and it’s been accepted at this point, but we’re getting pretty high.”

Out here for a couple nights. That pedestrian bridge is nowhere near done imo, they still have to do the entire exterior of it. Walked through re-done Park MGM for first time, they really went all in on Eataly upscale food court. Like I don't recognize a lot of menu items with their Italian names. Park casino feels smaller, like they are emphasizing drinking and entertainment for the pre- and post-show and NHL crowds.

It is accepted by the ignorant newbs who don’t know any better. Last time we were at the Mirage I bitched about the noisy room, so they waived the “resort fee” gouge.

Another reason why it’s good to have a casino host if you gamble enough. Resort fees are never a problem.
