More from MGM plan, regarding room check-in:

We are reimagining several aspects of the guest experience through technology to transition current processes into contactless options for guests.

The most convenient, contactless way to check-in is as easy as reaching for your phone. MGM is putting the arrival experience into the hands of our customers, enabling them to complete the check-in process themselves, from beginning to end. Guests will no longer need to wait in line, if they so choose.
Guests can confirm their arrival time, add payments and verify their ID all before setting foot in the lobby.

Once a room has been assigned and is ready for check-in, guests receive a notification and can access their room number and a digital room key in the mobile app. Or, if they prefer a physical Key Card, guests can utilize the self-serve Key Encoders in the Lobby.

Alternatively, for guests without smart phones or who prefer to not use one, they can complete the check-in process with the support of our employees in a contactless, line-reduced environment designed with our customers in mind.

RIP $20 trick.  It's been a long, slow death, but the year 2020 finally killed it for good.

It was up to $100 the last few years (might explain why it wasn't working for you - lulz) but, yeah...it was definitely dying slowly but surely.  And Corona or not, this will be the future of checkin.

May put a damper on the hotel-within-a-hotel, tower-type rooms too.  Part of the big up-sell there was the private lobby, avoiding standing in line at checkin with the commoners, etc.

MGM plan is out, couple of highlights (link below):

Employees will be provided and required to wear an approved mask when on one of our properties. MGM Resorts will also strongly encourage our guests to wear masks in public areas and will offer masks to any guests who need one, free of charge. Gloves will continue to be worn by employees who require them to do their jobs, such as food handlers and employees who clean public areas.

Guests may be required to wear masks when appropriate physical distancing or barriers cannot be maintained.

Asking guests to refrain from eating at table games and slot machines.

Suspension of self-service buffet-style food service. Employees will be required to serve guests.

Providing more pre-packaged food options for guests.

Wonder how many patrons will have their masks go up in smoke while they still try to suck on their cancer sticks...

Are you saying that this thing has a 0.5% fatality rate?  Where you getting those numbers?

AZ is 4.8% and CA is 4.0%.  I get my numbers from Johns Hopkins.

The info below is from Johns Hopkins also.  I suspect PilotsError is referring to death rate as the % of deaths versus the whole population while you appear to be referencing the death rate versus those who are infected.

Who the heck eats at table games?

I'm just thinking about how I'd react if some mother fucker at the Blackjack table pulled out a Quiznos and started going to town.

I think a simple "the fuck is the matter with you?" would suffice.

Sat at a blackjack table at Coconut Creek in Pompano a few years ago with two other people.

A woman comes up and think she's at a poker table (she wouldn't say a specific poker game, just "poker").  We said this is blackjack.  She is non-plussed and sits down.  She then pulls money out (about $40 if IIRC) and asks for chips.  It's a $25 minimum table.  We all stay quiet.  She gets her chips.  She sits there until after the next shuffle, but doesn't bet.  Then, a server arrives to take drink orders and the woman asks her for a menu; says she wants a salad and maybe a sandwich.  Server tells her they don't serve food there at the tables.  Woman gets huffy.  Server repeats she cannot serve her food at a gaming table, and points to 5 different restaurants in the building.  Woman asks if the food is free in the restaurants, since SHE WAS GAMBLING.  Server says no, but she can sign up for a card to earn comp points that can be used for meal purchases.  Woman has never heard of this concept and is very confused.  BECAUSE SHE THOUGHT IF YOU JUST BOUGHT CHIPS AT A POKER TABLE YOU WOULD GET A FREE MEAL.

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -- Iconic Las Vegas eatery the Peppermill on Wednesday announced it will reopen its doors next Friday, May 22 at 7 a.m.

According to a Facebook post from the Peppermill, the restaurant will have new hours for the foreseeable future. The Peppermill will now be open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.

MGM Resorts International will reopen its first Strip resorts after the coronavirus shutdown with only a quarter of hotel rooms available for guests, a company executive said.

“We think this sets up a very safe, controlled environment. We think that’s essential,” acting President and CEO Bill Hornbuckle said Tuesday in an interview on NBC’s "Today" show.

“In the short-term, Vegas done safely, I think, is still Vegas,” he said.

MGM plans to open its Las Vegas resorts in phases, with the Bellagio and New York-New York likely the first to emerge.

Erin Burnett just had a segment on Caesar's plans to reopen. 3 to a side on craps and game tables, every other slot deactivated and stool removed, 6ft distancing for observers. All workers will have temps taken and be masked. Guests are not required to wear one. I'll post the video when it's online.

Great video put together by Caesar's. That's what you have to do to save your industry. Hope it's not all for folly.

Slots/video and sports books seem pretty easy to fire back up with physical distancing. Maybe that revenue can start to get them out of the abyss, especially if/when USA sports start to come back.

October 2019 article:

With it comes one of the highest playing fees in all of golf: a $550 peak season rate. The price drops to between $300 and $375 during the summer months.

Not a resort fee, but it's a start:

MGM Resorts International says it is getting rid of paid parking as it prepares to welcome guests back after the coronavirus shutdown.

MGM has said it plans to initially reopen only its Bellagio and New York-New York properties on the Strip once the state gives the green light.

Casinos statewide have been closed since mid-March after Gov. Steve Sisolak ordered the shutdown of nonessential businesses to help curb the spread of the coronavirus. No date has been set for casinos to resume operations.

“MGM Resorts is updating many of our offerings as we prepare to welcome guests back, and that includes implementing free parking,” the company said in a statement issued today.

Venetian offering free night to essential workers.

The list of qualified essential workers is quite extensive.  I bet they don't vet guests very hard on that.  They just want people in the casino, restaurants and shops.

TI update (per Eater Vegas):

Less than two years after going through a $3.6 million renovation, Treasure Island opts to close its buffet to move a sport book into the 12,575-square-foot space.

Corner Market Buffet took over the former Buffet at TI space in 2018 with stations spanning a farmer’s market for salads; new American, continental, and Asian dishes; and a country bakery with desserts, soufflés, and gelato. The buffet served breakfast, lunch, and dinner, emphasizing international flavors and the ability to order unlimited drinks and a bloody Mary bar.

The Race & Sports Book relocates into 12,111 square feet of the space, adding a bar per the plans. The construction costs alone are estimated at $3.5 million.

When Las Vegas casinos are allowed to reopen, Caesars Palace and the Flamingo will be the first Caesars Entertainment resorts to do so.

The company made the announcement Thursday evening as part of a set of reopening guidelines, which included the news that Caesars will drop self-parking fees at its Las Vegas properties.

Quote

Caesars said it will suspend all fees for self-park customers, joining MGM Resorts International, which announced it will waive parking fees earlier this month.

According to the release, Caesars will open its first two resorts whenever the state gives the green light. It also says the timing of the next phase of opening depends on customer demand.

When Caesars Palace and the Flamingo open, both resorts will offer lodging, dining and access to their outdoor pools. Slot machine chairs will be spaced out in accordance with social distancing guidelines, as will table games.

The company said it also plans to reopen a number of retail and dining establishments along the Linq Promenade, as well as its High Roller observation ride.

Some offerings — including live entertainment, bars, spas, buffets and valet parking services — will not resume, at least at first, the company said.
