Go upstairs, idiot.

First time wife and I went looking for it, we couldn't find it either.  We were both drunk around midnight looking for this allegedly greatest pizza ever.    We made it up to the second level, but was staggering around in circles.  Finally, someone came over and asked us if we were looking for the pizza joint, and pointed us to the hallway.  Sure enough, it was damned good.

Going back sober on another trip it was still good.  We've probably had it half a dozen times over the years.

I heard he was screaming "don't Vontaze me bro" as they hauled him off

Wife and I are going to Vegas for 3 nights- leaving today.
I hope Vegas is still fun. We are the most boring people ever and all we want to do is gamble a little, eat a nice meal every day, fuck (each other) in something other than a tent or our own bed- and escape the kids. That’s a low bar compared to some of you animals so I’m sure it will be ok. Airline trips, 3 nights in the Paris, including resort fee, from Houston for $480 total. The taxes and departure fees are costing more than the airlines or hotels get.

That’s $480 total for the both of us. Mind boggling. We couldn’t drive to austin for a long weekend for that.

I was on vacation this week and normally it would be in Vegas. But with no shows or attractions open I really didn't see the point. If I just wanted to gamble I could go to Oklahoma. So I sat home and saved a few shekels.

Well this is traditionally the quietest week in Vegas for the year. Hopefully it’ll work out nicely for you.

Back in my 20's I was living in LA and couldn't make it back to Texas for the holidays due to work. So I took a quick trip to Vegas over Christmas. I can attest that casinos on the evening of 24th and morning of the 25th are about the quietest places you can be in a normal year. I kinda liked it though.

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -- A man who lives in Las Vegas and Alaska during different parts of the year hit a jackpot of nearly $15.5 million Thursday afternoon at the Suncoast Hotel and Casino.

Boyd Gaming announced that the Christmas Eve jackpot was the largest slot machine jackpot in Nevada in eight years at $15,491,103.

The winner had put just $40 into the machine before winning the jackpot around 12:30 p.m., according to Boyd.

Oh fuck, just seeing this.

When the old O'Shea's was sitting (literally) right on the Strip, along with the craps table, and Lucky was crotch high into every female imaginable, it was entertainment and fun at its best.

I saw some arguments on Twitter about the winner of that jackpot.  What is the tipping protocol there?

Good question. I’ve seen the same arguments in the past. I’m not so familiar with tipping etiquette or protocol for slot jackpots. Some Vegas insiders seem to fall on the side of what I consider to be a decent tip. If I won, I don’t think I would go by any set percentage but rather pick a nice amount that makes sense for the time spent for the person who helps with the payout. Also not sure but maybe depends on the casino if they would have to pool that amount and share it with others.

$15,000,000 so tip $5,000? No idea

You're supposed to tip when you win on a slot?  Who are you supposed to tip?  The cashier that cashes you out?  I could see slinging the waitress who brought you a drink while you were sitting there (if that happened) a nice little something extra for her good luck or whatever.  Since this dude only put $40 in, I doubt he even really had time to order a drink.  But other than that, who would have anything to do with it?  The housekeeping lady vacuuming around the machine you're at?  I don't play slots, nor have I ever won a big jackpot, so I guess I probably won't ever have to worry about it.

I also don’t play slots. But you would be tipping the slot attendant who would assist or manage your jackpot payout.

Article on what they do:

Slot attendants serve as a link between a casino guest and the casino’s management. Each attendant looks after a number of slot machines, ensuring their proper functioning. The attendant also ensures the safety and comfort of the slot players. In some casinos, slot attendants pay players who have won a large amount of money and they promote special programs offered by the casino.

Machine Function
A slot attendant ensures all the slot machines she is responsible for function properly. Casinos make no profit on slot machines that malfunction and prevent guests from using them. The attendant’s role is to alert machine repair mechanics to the problem to encourage rapid repair. In instances of minor issues, such as bill jams, an attendant may correct the malfunctions himself. Attendants must be aware of the model of all the machines in the casino, since guests will often have favorite models, such as video slots or reel slots, or favorite games, such as "Double Diamonds" or "Video Poker," and not know where to find them.

Safety and Comfort
Slot attendants must also ensure all players are behaving properly. They circulate through the area of their machines and maintain surveillance of the players. Attendants call security when they see a guest who is making loud noises which annoy other players or behaving abusively toward guests or attendants. Attendants are called on to assist players who are disabled and need help. They often get requests for directions to restaurants or bathrooms. Slot attendants receive requests from other casino staff members to respond to guests’ complaints or special requests. Incumbent on slot attendants is the need to be knowledgeable about local gambling laws and rules established by the casino.

Pay Big Winners
Some casinos feature machines dedicated to slots which require a minimum $10 per spin and pay winnings with tokens. For large winnings on these slots and for others where large sums have been won, attendants supervise the payment of cash or the distribution of vouchers. Attendants also collect the required data from winners whose payments exceed the amount that must be reported to the Internal Revenue Service.

Program Promotion
Slot attendants proactively build relationships with guests. This helps them promote special programs of the casino. Among the commonly sponsored casino programs attendants help promote are hourly cash giveaways, monthly awards of new cars, free massages in the casino spa, rounds of golf, or meals in one of the casino restaurants. Attendants may be assigned to provide special service to wealthy players, called “high rollers,” who gamble large amounts of money.

in the past if I had won a slot jackpot I wouldn't have tipped shit.

Has to be a decent percentage of jackpot winners in this category and I’m thinking it’s not really totally their fault. I follow gaming closely and was thinking the same thing as you but I’m not a slot player. From a little reading online, I would now at least tip something if somehow I won a slot jackpot (I’ve played once using $100 my uncle gave me to play for him). I’ve definitely thought about tipping amounts in case I won a poker bad beat jackpot (still haven’t won one).

Plastic surgery boom:

When the economy began to falter early last year because of the coronavirus pandemic, one Las Vegas plastic surgeon braced for the worst.

During the financial crisis a little over a decade ago, business at Lane Smith’s plastic surgery clinic dropped by nearly 50%. Smith, who heads the Smith Plastic Surgery Institute on West Sahara Avenue, said he expected the same this year, but that hasn’t been the case.

“I was worried we might have to lay off some staff members,” said Smith, whose clinic has about 40 employees. “It’s been the exact opposite. There’s been boom in plastic surgery.”

The institute has had several record months, including November and October, a typically a slow time, Smith said.

Other plastic surgeons in Smith’s circle have noticed similar trends, he said.

Andrew Silver, a doctor at Plastic Surgery Vegas, said a likely reason for the steady stream of business in 2020 is that people are looking at themselves more — literally.

With more people working from home, Zoom calls and other video conferencing meetings have skyrocketed in popularity.

“People are mentioning that directly,” Silver said. “People are looking at themselves from a camera positioned below them, often with poor lighting. You can see a lot of things you don’t like.”

Last year, nearly $17 billion was spent on cosmetic procedures in the U.S., according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Nearly a third of all procedures performed in 2019 occurred west of the Mississippi River. Las Vegas — an entertainment-heavy city where a certain look can be important for employment — is located squarely in the plastic surgery hot zone.

Smith said he doesn’t think the Zoom factor is the only reason for the uptick in business. He suspects many people have used government-issued stimulus funds to get some work done.

Many people also have time now to get surgery now, including some Las Vegas entertainers who have been sidelined because of the pandemic.

“I did a bunch of Cirque du Soleil performers recently,” Smith said. “They’re not performing now, so they have a lot of time to recover. You can’t have a breast augmentation and swing from a rope any sooner than six-to-eight weeks.”

Smith said breast augmentations are the most popular procedures at his practice, but they still only make up about 25% of his business. Facelifts and nose reshaping are also common.

What he calls a “mommy makeover” — which often includes “tummy tucks” to remove excess midsection fat for women who have gone through childbirth — is also popular.

It’s not only face and breast work that’s popular, though.

Another procedure gaining in popularity is the Brazilian butt lift, Smith said.

“There’s been a quadrupling in demand for those in the past two years,” he said. “Every woman wants their bum bigger now. There’s been a huge push in that direction.”

At the Smith Institute, a breast augmentation typically costs between $5,000 and $8,000. A butt lift also runs several thousand dollars.

The price tag on a mommy makeover starts at more than $20,000.

Smith said he suspects advancements in the safety of plastic surgery procedures in recent years have also likely led to more interest in getting work done.

Ashley Adams, a local schoolteacher, took advantage of her winter break to get a thigh lift and a reverse tummy tuck at the institute.

Adams, 30, had her first plastic surgery procedure in 2017. A big part of the reason was because she had lost weight and wanted to have something done with some of the excess skin, but she also had breast implants.

“It’s unreal all the options that are available,” Adams said. “There are people who can be judgmental about plastic surgery, especially in a place like Tennessee, which is where I’m originally from. It’s absolutely becoming more accepted, though.”

Because of the pandemic, people are wearing masks in public, which can be in a patient’s favor because there’s an easy avenue to hide facial work during recovery periods.

But that can also work the other way, Silver said.

“I’ve heard people who are upset that they have to wear the face mask,” he said. “After they’re done healing, people want to show off what they had done when they’re out and about.”

I haven’t kept up with thread: did anyone try to do a Vegas trip in 2020? Besides Brat Jr.

I went in June for 2 nights.  I out a pretty sizeable bet on KC to win the SB last year, but wasn't out there to cash it.  In late May I noticed my bet ticket was fading and almost unreadable.  I flew out midweek for 2 nights to cash it in.  I stayed at Cosmo and the casino was packed.  I only tried to gamble once and found an empty BJ table.  I lost my ass for an hour and tried to find another one but they were all packed so I just went and sat at an empty bar in one of the restaurants.  I played golf the next day, cashed my ticket, and stayed in my room the rest of the time.  It really sucked.

I’ve mailed in ticket at least a dozen times over the years and always gotten paid.  In fact most of the time not even registered mail on bets for lower amounts.  FWIW.

Yeah I’ve mailed tickets in before, but this one was really faded and I wanted to be there in case they tried to reject it. Plus I wanted to check pandemic Vegas out.

The Bellagio’s guest rooms are getting an upgrade, with a design inspired by the property’s most iconic feature: its fountains.

The Strip property will be updating the 2,568 rooms in its main tower. Renovations are expected to take place through the summer, with the first remodeled rooms available for guests in April.

“As the world returns to travel in the months and years ahead, Bellagio will be ready with this gorgeous new room product, as well as health and safety protocols throughout the resort to ensure guests feel welcome, comfortable and safe,” Bellagio President and COO Ann Hoff said in a Thursday news release.

The new designs come from Chicago-based The Gettys Group and MGM Resorts International Design Group, and were inspired by Bellagio’s fountain show and “the movement of water, the beauty of nature and the vibrant reflections of light seen at sunrise and set,” according to the release.

Rooms will include an oversized shower, dual sinks, a built-in closet and an activity table. There also will be a built-in closet and two seating nooks. The redesigned bathrooms will have an oversized shower with a doorless entry and a dual-sink granite vanity with backlit mirrors.

The Premier King Rooms will have a blue palette meant to reflect the sky just before sunrise, while the Premier Two Queen Rooms feature yellow tones inspired by sunsets.

When tasked with redesigning the guest rooms for such an iconic resort, we wanted the designs to transcend cultures and speak to an international audience,” Ben Nicholas, senior principal at The Gettys Group, said in the release. “We took inspiration from water, which is synonymous with Bellagio, and blended in elements of light and nature, to create spaces that make guests feel at home.”
