Alrighty then, little question for some that may be into the Vegas thing with a lot more familiarity than I.

I’ve been several times, enjoyed myself, etc.   Pretty standard.

However I caught a little documentary that touched on some of the casino side, specifically contacting a host before a visit. What this had mentioned was a host can pretty much accommodate most anything reasonable. Specifically hooking folks up with party favors. I was semi caught off guard by that, as it wasn’t for high rollers but average folks, and made it seem like no big deal of somebody wanted some marching powder or whatever. This was coming directly out of a hosts mouth on the documentary, but I was curious.

So was it, or is it, really kind of like that? Are hosts really that accommodating? I know I’ve used my host at local(ish) casinos, but that never crossed my mind.

Anyway, I was just kind of curious as the host speaking really made it seem like no big deal, give them a call and they are there to help.

Historically a hosts income was determined by the actual loss or theoretical loss of the players under their umbrella.  Just like the comps you receive are proportional to your ADT (average daily theoretical).  Think average bet and hours spent playing and house advantage of game being played.  The $100, 4 hour a day blackjack player might get a base room and $200 F&B comped, but unless they are close personal friends with the host, he isn’t scoring blow.  Now if you’re a $10000 a hand player who has 8 hour sessions.....your host will have hookers and blow waiting for you in you suite/villa if you so desire.  Most of these guys are pretty well connected but aren’t going risk a shitstorm for a dime a dozen player.

Thanks for that. The few I visit around here are connected to places in Vegas, so they know what I’d be hitting. Not stupid high roller, but mid level roller or there about.

It was an interesting show and just had me wondering if the host they were interviewing for that segment was talking shit or not.

So...like, this is pretty much the equivalent of “couldn’t get laid in a whore house with a handful of hundreds” right?

Not so much, no. Just seeing if a casino host on a documentary (about the overall scene in Vegas) was maybe exaggerating a bit or making himself and his profession seem more cool/important/connected than the reality.

Well, considering a cab driver in Vegas can get you cocaine, I’m going to assume a casino host can get you pretty much anything you want.  It’s Vegas.

Sure sure. Guess it just kind of struck me as odd he would be pretty blunt and open about it.

It has been busy recently as NASCAR just raced in Vegas with fans and pool season is open. They are expecting decent crowds for March Madness as well.

With the tables mostly only seating 3, I was hoping it was still pretty slow. I guess it'll be harder to get on. Oh well, still going so might as well make the most of it. We have another trip planned in 3 weeks too.

50% capacity come 3/15, should have room for more than 3 at the tables.

T-minus three weeks for me, as well. Good news today that capacity has increased and Google says most of my favorite restaurants are open for dine-in.

Our last visit was early last March...we left about a week before everything shut down.

I am not aware of any Strip buffets open at this time. For cheaper golf, try Royal Links Golf Club, about 20 min drive east of the Strip.

Yeah, Wicked Spoon at Cosmo is re-opening March 25, just a bit too late.

I'm headed out for a week in late April and can't fucking wait. Last trip was Feb. 2020, can't remember the last time I went 14 months between Vegas trips.

Cool to see this thread picking up some activity. The leisure traveler is definitely headed back to Vegas soon and the town is also anxiously awaiting more convention business to pick up 2H’21 and into 2022. World of Concrete is one of the first bigger shows to give it a go.

I was there about a month ago and none of the buffets were open that I saw.

Bali Hai isn't the best course (but it's not bad either) that's pretty affordable and really convenient.  Right across from the airport, south of Mandalay Bay.  5 min cab ride from any strip hotel.

Think you said you are staying at Caesars. Would be a great time to enlist a host if you can wrangle one on your behalf to book seats for you at the sportsbook. All the major casino sportsbooks I believe have shifted now to reserving/blocking off/charging money for seats now for big events. And this includes things like a regular Saturday of college football. So that would be my first recommendation. Failing that, see what it would cost to book seats.

Lagasse Stadium closed last year, so that’s out. From what I’ve seen, the best new or redone places look to be Circa and Westgate. I would call ASAP and see how it all works for the tournament this year. Previously many of the big places would host big parties in ballrooms. Pick your favorite place and check on that too. Try Cosmo.

Last suggestion would be to “slum it” at a smaller locals casino just off the Strip. You might be surprised how much fun that can be. Places like Ellis Island casino or Tuscany Suites.

Protip: download the online betting apps (like BetMGM) and sign up for them early. The betting lines get nuts in person.

Thanks I secured a couch/area @ brackets @ venitian...Old Emril Sportsbook, but that $2100 for 3 of us for an all day session. we are at the venitian this go. I dont mind paying some coin, but $2100 is my ceiling. That includes food and booze btw.

My buddy has a host at Caesars and gets comp'd Hoops On The Strip passes.  We've always been in the ballroom over at Flamingo, looking forward to how it sets up this year.

Restaurant updates (per Eater LV):

Best Friend, the Korean barbecue from chef Roy Choi, returns to the dining scene on Friday, March 19. The former Eater 38 restaurant from the star of The Chef Show with Jon Favreau on Netflix temporarily closed his restaurant a year ago when the state ordered all nonessential businesses — including restaurants, bars, and casinos — to shutter to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Park MGM reopened its hotel daily on March 5.

Also reopening on Thursday, another member of the Eater 38, Costa Di Mare at Wynn Las Vegas, which temporarily closed on January 4. Here, chef Mark LoRusso brings fresh Mediterranean seafood and Italian cuisine with a pricey menu and über romantic vibe on the patio. Pastas made daily and more than 40 fish flown in from the coast of Italy highlight the menu here. Patrons should splurge on the langoustines in a private cabana, especially if they have an expense account or deep wallet. Patio dining available.
