Edit:  I'll add this was probably the first travel since before Covid I didn't encounter a single asshole or shit attitude for an entire trip.  From flight attendants to passengers to servers to bartenders to dealers to all the drunks in Vegas, everyone seemed to be in a great mood.  For travel, I'm sure lifting mask mandate helps but it was almost uncanny how much it seemed like a lot of people had forgotten how to act, service folks forgot how to serve, etc.  the last couple of years.   Things truly felt normal which was an added bonus.

Good to hear. Hoping the rest of the country gets that memo soon...because, most everyone else, at least where I live, still seems to be good with the bolded part.

I was just looking at Brunch options for a August trip and I don’t think they offer this anymore. I found a eater article from 2021 saying they started, but there is no brunch listed on the current site.

Hmmmm.  Brunch at the Bellagio Spago is only on Fri, Sat, Sun.  I have been told it is the best on the strip with the fountain view and the food.  They can't possibly of stopped doing brunch there.  But I could be wrong.

Just to be clear Speakeasy Barbershop is in El Cortez (and it's great). The one in Cosmo is just called The Barbershop (but it is in a speakeasy.) Confusing.

The Cosmo barbershop isn't really a speakeasy.  It's a speakeasy setup with a hidden entrance in the back of a real barbershop, but once you get in it's a live music venue.

Best steakhouse at MGM property other than Prime at Bellagio? Also say so if Prime is just ludicrously better than any other.

I really like Stripsteak at Mandalay, but haven’t been in years. Craft steak at MGM is pretty good.

Bavette seems to be the one that gets all the acclaim right now.

Best restaurant in Vegas for a special occasion? One of my employees who lives there just passed his citizenship test. We want to do something special for him that he wouldn't do for himself. Is it Robuchon or something else?

Vintner Grill in Summerlin would be a nice choice. Robuchon is the highest rated I believe and in the super fancy category if you think he would like that.

I've had both.  Bavette's for the win.

That is such a hard question, based on the group you are with and the cuisine you are looking for it can really vary.

Robuchon is worthy of it’s 3 stars, it would be a very memorable and amazing diner. It is also a pretty formal affair if that is what you are looking for.

Anyone in Vegas this weekend, check in with reports. Supposed to be the busiest weekend since covid.

I land at 8am Monday morning. It’s going to be crazy, I’m sure

In Vegas now...Definitely hopping last night after the UFC fight I’m a poor judge of busy because it’s been over 7 yrs since Ive been here.  Our Uber driver said it was average busy in his opinion_ he said the busiest since covid was back in April when the Asian boy band BTS was here. Friday night was Absinthe - fun show.  Last night Morrissy , Chris Rock tonight.  Dining highlights so far are Beauty and Sussex and Lotus of Siam.  Only negative I have thus far is getting my ass handed to me at the craps table:)

That Javier’s (and the OG in Laguna) is the best Mexican I’ve ever had. It’s not cheap though, it’s actually kinda swanky as Mexican joints go. I’d put it up against any Mexican place in the country.

FYI, that Laguna OG has been closed for some time now. In 05-08, I would stay in Laguna when in area and that place was the f'n best. Mariscos enchiladas, margs and women. Believe they're now up the coast in Newport and Irvine-Spectrum for that area.

I just got back last night. It was crowded but nothing too crazy. Seemed like a typical pre-pandemic weekend.

Move Over Las Vegas Strip, Fremont St. Adding a Bold New Casino

Red Rock Resorts (RRR) operates a number of casinos across Las Vegas, but the company has generally served locals more than tourists.

Now, Red Rock Resorts wants to bring its Wildfire Casino brand to Fremont Street, just south of Charleston Boulevard in the downtown area, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported. The project will cost $750 million and occupy more than 21,000 square feet on a five-acre plot.

The company has pushed its Wildfire brand as being more of a brand for locals.

It has detailed very little about the new Wildfire on Fremont Street, but the company will keep its focus on serving locals, not tourists.

Red Rock Resorts did say that it's "excited to bring a new Wildfire casino with fresh new amenities to the local residents of downtown Las Vegas,” the Review-Journal reported.

Who has the best burger in Vegas now? I liked that place in Cosmo but I think they closed. Ramsay’s place at Planet Hollywood?

I’m partial to Slater’s 50/50. Half beef half ground bacon patties. A buddy out there raves about Smoke and Fire but haven’t been. I want to try Fukuburger.
Not a fan of Ramsay burger. He’s a fucking limeyburger.

I think Ramsay burger is great. I used to love Holsteins but think it’s just OK now. Black Tap at Venetian is solid. Wahlburgers was really good this time.

Holsteins burger wasn’t great this time around. Chocolate shake may be best I’ve ever had, but they no longer give you the mixer so it’s $13 for a fairly small glass

Waiter said they’d start doing Aria and Venetian room charges on Monday, so he thought rewards will kick in then too

OH, also supposedly the bacon chee at Delmonico is amazing, but it's only avail at lunch, which is only Fri-Sun. Def wanted to get that one in this time, but tough to work an 11-230 window while playing tourneys.

Arriving Thursday morning for 5 days and nights of debauchery with Missus Francisco.

Have reservations at Joe's, Barry's Downtown, Jardin for breakfast one morning, and so on.

My life goals for those 5 days/nights is to be a functioning drunk, and that's about it.

Pretty much seen everything and played craps everywhere downtown and on the Strip over many years. We want to venture off the beaten path on our trip next month. Not way off the beaten path but within, say, 5-10 miles of the Strip.  Recommendations appreciated.

There is a joint out in the desert with all kinds of games like Guess which Hand, Go Fish, Staring war, Thumb War, etc.

In retrospect, the funniest thing about that scene is that, in addition to the games you mentioned, they also had War, which is now a real casino game.

We ate at a great place last trip called Mama Bird. Off Cactus a few miles west of I-15. Close to South Point and M. Southern menu with cool variety of mules and old fashioned, breakfast til 3p. Highly recommend.

Can you clarify? I thought you just wanted another place to play craps. Are you asking for another resort to stay/play or also restaurant recs off Strip?

Gambling / craps. Not looking for places to stay per se', more so casinos off Strip. Most likely where locals are hanging out.
Thanks.

Ok thanks. The two places I listed are among the most popular for locals. I’ve played craps at both places.

Lardo has a better burger than Holsteins…or did when I was there 3 years ago. Different style though.
