No one can ever argue that Vegas doesn’t know how to put on a show. That was bad ass.

Drone shows look like pure magic. You almost expect Gandalf to be out front conducting it.  150 years ago, if people saw that in the sky, they would start worshiping it.

Is the Tropicana name going to live on anywhere in Vegas in the future? It’s a pretty iconic name even with the property being pretty downtrodden for the last 20 years or so. I think a classic Vegas themed resort with today’s amenities would be pretty cool.

I may do Battista's tonight and sit at the bar since I am solo. Last time I sat at the bar there was this huge old guy sitting next to me and we started chatting as we were watching a baseball game. He had worked in casino management in Vegas and was working for a casino in Reno but here for a meeting with some mothership casino. Super interesting stories--but the best was that he had pitched in college for Arizona or Arizona State (can't remember); he also had a short stint in the pros. He was like Randy Johnson tall (not near as ugly). I suspect his release point was 9 foot when he pitched. He said he always hits up Battista's when he comes back as do most of his casino buddies.

Alright did this tonight for dinner. Great scene in a non tourist way but more my people if they were tourist. Had a gay couple hit on me at the bar which was cool since they bought me 2 drinks. They were from London we’ll croydon specifically and my best friend lives there with his wife. Sat next to an Indian dude who said he can’t eat meat but he is here without his wife and then ordered a side of meatballs and fucking devoured them. Bartender was 70 and smokes a fuck ton so we chatted a bit about her 5 divorces. It was a great time honestly.

im now at the shithole raider bar/liquor store next door enjoying 1.25 Budweisers and 3 dollar coronas hitting a blunt also they supposedly have some bomb ass hotdogs here

Ugh. That aerial view of Mandalay and the adjacent parking lot.

See the odd shaped building left/center?
That’s the Catholic Church Mrs. Brat attended several times when our Vegas trips ran into the weekends.

I spent a a few hours total time waiting in the little L-shaped parking lot for her, and took a couple of pics with the Luxor in the background.
It wouldn’t surprise me that the big parking lot where the massacre took place might not be developed by any gambling establishment because of the bad juju.

I am surprised there is still not a memorial built. They are saying by the 10th anniversary.

First time in Vegas. Staying at Ceasars Palace and have a conference here.

Some confirmation bias for sure but this isn't my scene.  It's 2024 and the entire ground floor smells like cigarette smoke.  I'm not a gambler so slots and table games aren't for me.  I got in last night and Vegas and flying solo here is kind of a bummer.  Sitting at a bar is out since I don't drink.

I can see the appeal because it's pretty impressive but it feels like a cruise ship except its Carnival, Royal Caribbean and Norwegian all rolled into one.

The people watching is interesting though.

Stayed here a month ago and loved it.  Super easy access to Aria, Cosmopolitan, and Bellagio.  Stayed in a corner suite on the 35th floor and had nearly 270 degree view.

That’s what we get. Love it there. Really laid back place.

Update...   Still didn't care for the entire ground floor smelling like smoke.   If wego to this conference next year it will be at Aria as it is moving locations.

We went to Beauty and Essex (in the Cosmopolitan) for dinner on Wednesday.  Very good overall and their menu is very conducive to sharing.   Kind of helped redeem my thougths on food in Veags.  Four of us shared the following:  Little French Dips, Deep-Dish Focaccia Bites, Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup Dumplings (really enjoyed these, Thai-style Deep Fried Shrimp, Cavetelli Pomodoro (the weak link in the meal).  We ended up getting the Black-Bottomed Butterscotch Pot de Crème on the house at the end and it was excellent.

On Thursday, a prospective vendor took us to dinner at Lamaii off the strip on Spring Mountain Road.   This was a superior meal.   We shared amongst the table again.   We got the Garlic Green Beans, Salmon Noir, Panang Crispy Duck, Garlic Herb Crispy Prawn, Mun Pu (crab) Fried Rice and Gang Rawaeng (braised beef in curry).  Everything was examplary.

My attitude has changed a little from Tuesday and I could see going back but not staying at one of the casinos or hotels on the strip.

I generally stay at Aria and visit other casino floors for the grins and change of scenery. Stayed at Caesar's once, 15+ years ago, and would never do it again for reasons you observed. It's probably the worst of the big places on the strip now that the Tropicana is gone. I guess Excalibur, NYNY, and Luxor are probably as bad or worse too, but who in the hell is staying there?

Is Golden Steer any good? I'm going to LV in January and have my annual Piero's trip locked up but am looking for something different.

I ate there once and was happy with everything but the steak. Fine looking cut, but needed a chainsaw to cut it. I'm told that's normally not the case and I should have raised a fuss over it. Other than that it was old school cool.

Your question reminds me of the discussion I had with my buddies before we went to Vegas a month ago. We weighed trying the Golden Steer after all these years but instead went to Don’s Prime in The Fountainebleau.

We just kind of wanted to see the new hotel and casino and had heard good things about the dining there. I highly recommend it as an alternative. The clientele in the common area around the games and in the bars were a sight to behold. It was a mix hillbillies, euros, hipsters, and strippers/escorts. Deeper cuts of each of those groups than the rest of the strip. The steakhouse was also excellent. You can get a lobster mac at any good steakhouse but their presentation, and the dish itself, was next level.

It's a solid spot to watch games.  Pretty much my go to in town if there is a game on I want to see and I'm not watching from a Sportsbook.

I wonder how it takes someone in Vegas to invite Cosm into their casino and can then add their sportsbook features to the whole thing?

Seems like a match made to me.

We ended up booking Barry's Prime. Will report back. No need to report on Piero's. It rocks.
