Las Vegas go hard or go home thread

Ok.  I know these are basic and stupid questions.  I also know we have a gambling board.  Nevertheless, here goes...
One of the things I'm really looking forward to is gambling at one of the casino sports bars.  I've read as much as I can, so that I don't look like a dumb dick when it's time to place a bet.  Tell me if I'm missing anything.
Let's say I want to bet on a game; money line.  From what I understand, the board/screen will have a game # with the spreads/money lines.  As an example, college bball (I'll be there for the tourney.)
#452  Texas - 450  Prairie View +300
So, in order to bet Texas, I'd say, "Game 452.  Texas" and hand the guy/girl an amount.  Is this correct?
I know how the payouts work.  I've just never actually placed a bet, other than a parlay I used to do with a bookie back in Knoxville.

Highly recommend downloading the app. So much easier to place bets in real time and you don’t have to go back to the window to cash in your ticket, etc. The app also allows you to bet anywhere (that is legal) so you don’t have to worry about trying to run to the sportsbook right before kickoff when you’re hungover from the night before.

So, yeah.  I was planning on the @squib routine.  Plopping my ass in front of a tv on the first day of the NCAA tourney.  I believe games will be starting around 10-ish Vegas time.  I might not get up for several hours - except to piss.

I'll def look into the app either way.  Thanks for the advice all.

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -- Two women were arrested after allegedly hiding cash and a watch they stole inside their genitals, according to Las Vegas police.

Nikki Grandel and Staycee Johnson each face a charge of grand larceny and were arrested Jan. 2.

According to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, Grandel and Johnson met the victim on the Caesars Palace casino floor. The three decided to go up to the victim's hotel room, an arrest report said.

The victim took a bath, leaving $6,500 in cash rolled up in a rubber band and a Rolex watch inside a duffle bag in the room with the two women, the report said. The victim said he couldn't find the items a short time later.

Police did a body search of Johnson and found the money "bulging in her pants," the report said. Johnson initially told police she had placed the money in her vagina, but it had fallen out, according to the report.

Grandel denied taking any items from the room, according to police. Upon her booking into Clark County Detention Center, officers conducted an X-ray on Grandel and found a Rolex watch inside her vagina.

Kids or no?  How do you deal with the heat?

Tell GIF by Grease Live

Only two things I don't like are the heat, which can be mitigated by staying indoors, and the impending lack of water. Water concerns me more. Other than that I don't have to put up with mosquitoes, fleas, ticks, snakes, sinkholes, tornadoes or hurricanes. Can go see snow if I want and everything is new. Have two kids but they were 12 and 14 when we arrived. Would not necessarily want to raise kids here.

Edit: Schools mostly suck. Private school is the way to go unless you live in an upscale are.

Anyone actually live out there?  Seriously thinking about it.

Had relatives that lived out there during the 90s, two have since passed away and the other moved back to KY to be closer to their grandkids, but they loved it out there and I've told the wife I wouldn't mind moving there myself.  This was before our move to NY and now most likely back to Texas for our granddaughter in the near future.

My situation: currently in SoCal but can live anywhere, why not cut my expenses nearly in half, not pay a state income tax and still have access to California.  Vegas is a great food and entertainment city obviously.  But it’s hot and I’m guessing is full of degens

We haven't been out there since 2007 for Anniversary / Billy Joel concert, probably wouldn't recognize it.  But yeah, the heat would be a bitch to deal with year round.  It's always been our favorite getaway destination.

Heat is only an issue for about three month. I'm usually in the pool or indoors during that time.

No, but I don’t recall reading in the story that she had been whoring down in Tijuana, either.

Funny saying, but the fuck all of it is that it’s true.

Buy a second place around the ski areas around, go there in the summer and airbnb it for ski season. Airbnb covers the cost, and in the “off-season” in the summer you go up and stay to “work on the property” for the next season. (Phrasing for tax purposes.)

Some Mastros locations are great and others are just okay. Thoughts on this one?

Nice ambiance, fish shaped in the middle of Crystal Shops but the meal itself was nothing memorable.

Yeah, if you can live anywhere, I would literally pick anywhere but California for all the reasons you listed and then some. Other than the weather and maybe if you're in the film biz, that state has zero value whatsoever.

Anyway, I looked pretty hard at moving to Vegas about 5 or so years back. Like you, we can live anywhere we want and thought we were ready for a change of scenery. At the time, we were traveling to Vegas for fun multiple times per year and thought it sounded like a cool idea. How badass would it be to live here and be able to do all this shit all the time?

As we started to peel back the layers and look at the reality of it all, we realized that it was much more a place we liked to visit and not a place we'd like to live (kind of like NYC). Everyone we talked to who lives there said the locals avoid all the shit we were going to Vegas for like the plague. Assuming we'd be the same way if we lived there, once we looked at anything outside of the casinos/shopping/dining/nightlife/strip/etc, it didn't have much going for it. I mean, I'd definitely rather live there than California, but that's not saying much.

Looking back, I'm really glad we talked ourselves off that ledge. We kind of outgrew Vegas over the last few years we went. Everything was starting to feel very "been there done that" and we found it less and less appealing every time we went. It changed, we changed, whatever...but it's just not our thing anymore. We haven't been since Covid and have no real desire to go back anytime soon, if ever. I can't imagine living there now.

I’ve gone to every CES since 86 including the Summer shows in Chicago when they had those, so about 42. First time I’ve missed as none of my clients were attending. Glad of it. CES has changed from a productive selling show into a global pr event. Why does USPS have a million dollar booth?

The wife and I are taking our sons for their birthdays (one turned 25 and the other is about to turn 21) in two weeks. boys have never been. Wife and I have been 7 or 8 times.

I want to take boys to a show. Has anyone been to Beatles Love?  None of us are huge Beatles fans, but I figure the show would probably be cool. What I read about O sounded really cool, but it’s about double the price. We aren’t surly rich, and I’m basically just wanting the boys to experience a Vegas show, so not really wanting to spend more than I need to.

I went quite a while back but that show is fun. You don’t have to love the Beatles to enjoy it. For dad, weed + Beatles is a nice legal time in Vegas.

I have a friend who works for AWS and she is quite pleased to not have to attend CES in person this year. It’s quite a beating (pre-covid) with the massive crowds and lines everywhere, as you well know.

Fuck the dumb shit. Get the tickets for O. That shit will blow your mind, and you won't regret it. I was thinking over the same thing last summer, or even Mystere. O was the right call. If you're wanting it to be a memorable trip, that's the way to go.

I haven’t seen Love but most everyone I know who did see it really enjoyed it.

I’m trying to remember if you can possibly get discounted tickets for O on same day as the performance from the box office at the Bellagio. Especially if it’s non-weekend and no big convention in town. I feel like this is what my aunt and uncle did a few years ago but that could have changed or maybe you just have to get lucky also. The box office is open during the day at Bellagio and if you haven’t purchased tickets for any show before your trip it’s definitely worth stopping by to ask. And you can always check out the atrium while there for the seasonal decorations.

I thoroughly enjoyed Love.

Not knowing what your family's sense of humor is, Absinthe might also be good choice.

Do any of the smaller casinos/resorts still do shows?  One of the best we’ve been to was a drag show with Cher, Joan Rivers impersonators along with a few others at the Riviera many moons ago.

I don’t have a good handle on all the shows around town but one that I have seen many times when walking thru Harrahs is the Big Elvis show. Just an Elvis impersonator but he’s huge (may have recently lost weight) and very entertaining. His show was in a smallish bar area near one of the entrances.

I had a few dinners and booth tours but the majority of my meetings were cancelled and moved virtual. Walked the floor in about 2.5 hours whereas typically it takes almost a full day. Lot of empty LVCC floor. Fucking LG had an empty booth with QR codes. Panasonic and Sony didn't have many TVs out. And the big automotive booths were largely absent other than VinFast which was impressive.

On the positive front, no lines, no crowds, easy to get dinner reservations, and rooms were dirt cheap. Also the brand new West Hall is nice and clean.

SEMA was a ghost town so I knew this would be as well. That’s unbelievable how empty it is. CTA is such a bloodsucking organization and no one has done more to destroy the industry he’s hired to serve than fucking Gary Shapiro. Most of my vendors withdrew or just had a suite for a few meetings. I don’t miss it.

What are you looking for in a place to live (vs visit)? The schools aren't great if you're thinking of family, but the outdoors are a huge draw. You can be in fantastic hiking/biking/off-roading within an hour. Lake Mead is within an hour. Less than 6hr to LA, SD, Moab, Phx, and tons of flight options on small and large carriers. There are 2 road courses for racing cars within an hour. The summer heat isn't bad given you have endless indoor or in-water options, and the rest of the year the weather is solid.

Yes. It's fantastic. I don't remember anything not appropriate for kids. There's even little kids in the show. Did I mention it's fantastic?
